Chapter 3

My aunt lives a block or two away. She owns an inn with a bath house. It took us about 10 minutes from the police station so we decided to walk over there. Once we arrived, I rang the doorbell.

"Yes, who is it?" My aunt asks cautiously.

"Its me, Pierce." I responded.

"Oh, hello Pierce, how are you doing? Come on in," she says cheerfully. We step in and drop our things. I know I have to tell her about my parents, but it's just so hard. I stupidly ignore any second thoughts and decide to bring it up right away.

"Okay...um...I have some ba-" I lower my voice, thinking of how I'd tell her the news.

Max joined in, and explained everything he saw, or knew, and told her what my mom's final words were.

"Well, I suppose it's time.." She said filling in the quiet. We walked into her dining room area. We saw a white rug underneath a coffee table.

"I'll be back." She left the room and came back with three epipen-looking objects with a green substance encased in them.

"Pierce, do you trust your friends?" She asked all of a sudden.

I gulped. "Yes, with my life." I nodded, wiping some tears off my face.

She slowly stuck the needle into my neck. I felt a sting of pain, and she pushed the button. When she was done, she stepped back to admire her job.

"What was that, Aunt Cassandra?" I asked, rubbing my neck where she had just unceremoniously stabbed me.

"Oh, I thought you knew. I just activated your powers."

"What powers? What are you talking about?"

"Well, it a bit hard to explain. Everyone is born with a super power, you just need to activate it."

"Well, Mom did say something about being a hero..." I muttered to myself.

"What just happened?" Max asked after coming out of shock of seeing his best friend being injected into the neck with an epipen.

"Pierce, are you okay?" Sabrina asked. She walked up to me to check out my neck.

"Yea, I'm okay." I said finally. "Aunt Cassandra, what was that? If I did get powers, how do I know that it works? And what was in there?"

"That was what what we use to activate our powers. Your powers will come; it doesn't always come instantly. In the needle there was a substance that will activate your powers." Aunt Cassandra informed.

"Okay...so what is my super power?" I ask.

"Well, I'm not quite sure, it could be anything." She announced. "But it could be very powerful because your hair is starting to turn red." Said Aunt Cassandra.

I ran to the mirror and looked into it. I saw my hair turning dark crimson hair; it was slowly flowing from the base of my head, leaving the tips of my hair black.

"What is going on? And how do you know how powerful someone is?" I ask.

"Well, you can tell when someone's power by their physical change. If there physical change that happens almost immediately, depending on the Change it means that that person has a powerful power." She told us.

"What is your power, Aunt Cassandra?" I asked wondering if she had any physical change.

"Well, my power is the master of illusions and tricks. I can make illusions look real or disguise a person or thing." As she said this a dog suddenly appeared in front of us. "Here's an example."

Sabrina bent down to pet the dog but her hand went right through the dog. She jumped up in surprise and looked down at it intensely. After a while, she looked like a little girl who just witnessed a clown doing something funny.

"Did you have any physical changes, Aunt Cassandra?" I asked thinking of what kind of physical change she went through.

"Well, the physical change I had was that my hair got longer. My hair used to be quite short, but it became longer, it was not that big of a change so it was pretty powerful but no that strong." She said as she stroking her hair.

"What was Mom's and Dad's power?" I asked

"Well, your mom's power was that she could create portals that could go anywhere, specifically places she's already been to. Your father could make pictures move and become alive." Aunt Cassandra said.

"What do you think my think my power is?" I ask.

"It could be anything. Maybe it has to do with art, since you a really good artist." She suggested.

"Anyway, Max and Sabrina, do you want a super power?" She asked.

"Can we really have a super power?" Max asked.

"Of course." She said, then with a dark, serious tone. "As long as you keep this a secret. And vow to always protect others and yourselves."

"Y-Yes we will." Sabrina said nervously.

She promptly inserted the epipen like objects and pushed the button. After she did, we waited for five minutes but nothing happened.

"Well, maybe it failed." Max suggested.

"Maybe it di-" Aunt Cassandra suddenly stopped talking.

All of a sudden Max burped and a burst of flame came from Max's mouth and ignited the coffee table.

"What in the world is going on?!" Max yelled through the flames.
