5 Chapter Five

The next morning Peyton gets up to their alarm and turns it off. They have a fast shower. Peyton gets dressed and brushes their teeth. They then leave for school after kissing Sally's cheek. At the school. Alex comes over and knocks on the window. Peyton smiles and gets out the car grabbing their vape stick and backpack. Alex wraps her arms around Peyton's neck. "Morning." Alex kisses Peyton deeply. Peyton hums. "Morning to you too angel." Peyton kisses Alex once more and then holds her hand. They start walking towards school and Peyton vapes away until they get into the school with Alex. Eric walks past as he high hives Peyton. Alex looks shocked. "You two best buds now?" Peyton puts their back pack in their locker after grabbing their books. Peyton closes the door and leans against it. "Nah not really best buds. He's on the football team so." Alex nods. "I'll see you next period." Peyton nods and kisses Alex's forehead and walks to their class. Peyton finishes their work quickly and hands it in. They then grab their bag and leave the classroom. Peyton runs to Alex's classroom. They sit down a few seats behind Alex. Peyton's phone buzzes. They look at it.

Alex- Why you look so angry?

StonerGod497- No reason

Alex- You sensed something didn't you?

StonerGod497- I'm not sure what I sensed

Alex- I do

StonerGod497-???

Alex finishes her work and hands it in. She looks up at Peyton and then looks away. Peyton looks confused. Alex hands them a piece of paper. Peyton takes it and reads it.

He's out and looking for me.

Peyton scrunches up the piece of paper angrily. Alex hears Peyton growl. Seana looks up from her computer and looks at Peyton. They smile and shrug their shoulders. Seana smiles and goes back to her work on her computer. Alex gets up and leaves the classroom. Peyton goes to follow when Alex shakes her head. They follow close behind anyway. A few minutes later. "What do you want?" The guy smiles. "I'm glad you came." Alex shrugs. "Good for you. What you want?" "I just. I want us to be together again. I miss you." The guy walks closer so Alex backs away. "James stop. If you want me here then stay over there." James nods. "Okay. I'm sorry Alex. I didn't know he was like that." Alex starts sobbing. "Yeah well you do now. Too little too late." James hears rustling in the bushes behind Alex. "I thought you came alone." "I did. That's just a animal. I'm never getting back with you. You never treated me with respect. Not once." James comes a little closer. "Come on Alex. I've changed." James puts his hand on Alex's cheek. "I know you still have some feelings." Alex pushes away from James and falls back into Peyton's chest. Alex turns around. "I told you not to follow me." Peyton shrugs. James looks at Peyton and then Alex. "You know this jock?" Alex looks at James. "Yes James. I know this jock." James bursts out laughing. "Holy shit. I never knew you were interested in being friends with jocks." James calms down. "Shoo. Got business." James comes closer to Alex. Peyton tenses up. Alex notices and touches their hand. "Relax. What more do you want James?" James goes to grab Alex's hand and Peyton growls. Alex elbows Peyton in the chest. Alex moves her hand out of James' reach. "Come on." Alex shakes her head. "I've moved on. You should too." James watches Alex hold onto Peyton's hand. James chuckles. "For real? This idiot?" Peyton growls. Alex shakes her head. "Back off James. I don't want anyone to get hurt." James shrugs. "You've always had a thing for bad boys and girls. Sometimes two at once. Whore." Peyton turns their head. "What did you just say?" Alex pulls on Peyton's arm. "Come on. Leave it." Peyton pulls away from Alex. James smiles. "Whore." Peyton punches James in the face. Another guy comes up and smiles. "He's always deserved that." Alex tenses up. Peyton notices and holds onto Alex's hand tight enough that it won't hurt her but tight enough to kind of feel her racing pulse. The guy comes closer. "Alexxxx. Heyyyyy. No one can come between us. Remember?" Peyton looks over at Alex. She nods. Peyton smiles and kisses Alex deeply. A few minutes later Alex screams. "No!" Peyton spits out blood. The guy smiles. Peyton falls to the ground. The guy pulls out his knife from Peyton's back. "See? I told you. No one." Alex backs away until she's against the school building. Lex smiles. "It's okay. I won't let it last as long as I did the first time." Lex puts his hand on Alex's waist. He whispers something in Alex's ear and her eyes start to water. Peyton wraps their arm around Lex's throat tightly. He starts gagging. He turns his head and his eyes go wide. Peyton throws Lex to the ground. "I killed you." Peyton smiles. "I haven't had a pulse in over 200 years dude." Lex starts pushing away from Peyton. "That's. That's not possible. You'd be dust." Peyton looks at Alex. She shrugs and nods. Peyton smiles. They grab Lex's feet and drag him back to them. Peyton bares their teeth and rips open Lex's leg. He screams. James backs away until he's against the pillar. Peyton finishes with Lex and then stands up. They smile at James. Their mouth drips with blood. Peyton walks up to Alex and Alex makes out with Peyton for a few minutes. Once done Peyton wipes Alex's mouth with their shirt. Peyton walks up to James and offers their hand. James looks confused. Peyton smiles and nods towards their hand. James slowly lifts his hand and Peyton takes it. They squeeze hard. "Don't ever come around again. Unless you want something from me or have something for me. Yes?" James nods. "Yes. Okay." Peyton smiles and lets go of James' hand. James runs away. Just as James pulls out of the lot the bell rings. Alex waits for Peyton to be done in the bathroom. "You okay?" Peyton nods and walks with Alex to the cafeteria. Alex buys some food. The two sit down at their usual table. About half way through Alex's lunch Eric comes over with Ryan and Kyle. "Will we see you at practice tonight?" Peyton nods. "I won't be there right away but yeah. You'll see me." Alex finishes her lunch and leans against Peyton's chest. "So we'll see you around 7?" Peyton thinks. "Make it 7:30. I got something to do before practice." Eric and the others nod and walk off. Alex sneezes. "Bless you." "Thanks. Question." Peyton hums. "How many of the teachers are like you?" "Hybrid or just immortal?" "Just immortal." "About a third of them. Some are actually part of my pack." Alex nods. "I see. Am I?" Peyton looks down at Alex and smiles. "Of course my angel. Love you." Alex kisses Peyton softly. "Love you." Alex and Peyton leave the cafeteria and Alex runs to the bathroom. Peyton follows. Alex throws up in the toilet. Peyton rubs Alex's back with one hand while holding her hair back with the other. Alex throws up again. Alex starts sobbing. "It hurts." Peyton continues to rub Alex's back. When Alex finishes she washes her hands and rinses out her mouth. Alex turns around with Peyton's hands turning her. They lift Alex up onto the counter. Peyton puts their ear against Alex's stomach and listens. Alex looks confused. "What're" "Shhh." Alex stays quiet. Peyton's eyes widen. They pull away from Alex. Alex jumps off the counter. "What is it?" Peyton grabs Alex's hand. "Come on. We're taking the rest of the day off." Alex walks with Peyton to the car after grabbing their stuff from their lockers. Peyton speeds off towards a store. Alex goes to get out. "Stay here." Alex closes the door and puts her seatbelt back on. Peyton runs in the store. A few minutes later they come out and get back in the car. Peyton hands the bag to Alex and then drives off. Once in the bathroom at Peyton's. Peyton opens the bag and takes out one of the sticks from the box and hands it to Alex. Peyton closes the door. Sally looks confused and knocks on the door. "Everything alright?" Peyton locks the door. "Everything's fine mum." Alex finishes peeing on the stick and then wipes and flushes the toilet. Alex washes her hands. The two wait. About ten minutes later Alex looks at the stick. She smiles. Peyton wipes their face. "Fuck." Alex looks confused. "What's wrong love? Don't you want?" Peyton sighs and puts their arms around Alex. "Of course. Of course I do but I can't do it without you." Alex looks even more confused. "Huh?" Peyton hugs Alex close and lays their head on Alex's shoulder. "I'll see him or her but you won't. You'll die after giving birth. Literally seconds after." Alex pulls away from the hug and starts tearing up. "No. That's not true. You're just saying that." Peyton goes to grab Alex's hand but she pulls away. "Babe trust me. It will. I know. I've seen it." Alex starts full on crying. "Then I'll fight it. I'll win." Peyton grabs Alex gently. "No you won't Alex! There's nothing that can stop it from happening." Alex starts hitting Peyton. "Just get out! Please just leave." Peyton doesn't budge. Alex pushes Peyton away from her. They leave the bathroom and go outside slamming the door behind them. Sally looks confused. She goes over to Alex and sits down next to her. Alex cries and leans her head on Sally's shoulder. Sally rubs Alex's back. "What's wrong?" Alex sniffles and lifts her head up to look for the stick. She finds it and hands it to Sally. Sally sighs. "They told you that you won't survive after giving birth didn't they?" Alex nods and starts crying again. Sally leans Alex's head against her chest. "They're telling the truth you know." Alex sniffles. "Really?" Alex sits up and wipes her face. Sally smiles. Alex looks shocked. "You're." Sally nods. "Do they know?" Sally nods. "Yes. Their father saved me seconds before I made the last push." Alex hums. "Interesting. Hey question." Sally smiles. "Yes Aaron is mine as well." Alex hums. "I wonder." Sally shakes her head. "They won't do it." Alex starts to tear up again. "Why not?" Sally sits down against the cabinets. "There's a coven just outside of Ireland. They're known for torturing their prey before killing and drinking them. Peyton used to run with them. Back when they were still just a vampire. After they left the leader of that coven told them that if they ever came back or turned a human that he would personally come and destroy them." Alex sighs. "I see. Well guess I'm screwed then." Peyton comes to the door and leans against the doorframe. "No you're not. I'm not going to let you die." Alex looks shocked. "You can't! He'll destroy you." Peyton shrugs. "I'd like to see him try. I'm a lot stronger than I was in 1156. Like I said. I'm not going to let you die. I'll save you at the last second. Just like my dad did with my mother." Alex sighs. Sally just shakes her head while smiling. "You've always been stubborn." Peyton shrugs. "I'd rather be stubborn then dead again." Alex stands up. "Question." Peyton walks out of the bathroom with Alex following. Sally closes the door. The two go downstairs and lay on Peyton's bed. "Where's your dad?" Peyton puts their arm behind their head. "I don't really talk about my father much." Alex nods and lays her head on Peyton's chest. "Sorry. Talk about something else?" Peyton sighs. "After Aaron and I were born my dad left. He went and joined the coven Sally was talking about before. After a few hundred years he came back and stayed for awhile. When Aaron and I turned 890 he left again. Haven't heard from him since." Alex looks shocked. "Exactly how old are you?" Peyton chuckles. "Over 1,000. I've lost count." Alex laughs. "So I'm dating a really old hybrid." Peyton chuckles. "In a matter of speaking yes. Oh by the way. I used to be in a war." Alex hums. Peyton chuckles. "Sleep my angel." Alex falls asleep. Peyton scrolls through their Facebook. Peyton is reading an article when their phone rings.

"Hello?" "Peyton you gotta come quick. We need you." "Slow down I can't hear you." "There's fire all around us. You gotta come." "Hello? Hello?"

The line goes dead. Peyton pushes Alex off gently and she wakes up. "What's going on?" Peyton runs around looking for their keys. Alex finds them and hands them over. Peyton runs up the stairs with Alex following close behind. The two drive to Alex's. Alex gets out and tries to go in the house but Peyton stops her. "No." "Mum. Eric." Peyton lets go. "I'll get 'em. Just stay by the car." Peyton runs into the house. "Justine! Eric! You in here?! Call out!" Peyton runs around the house. Finally Peyton finds them. Justine pushes Peyton away from her. "Eric." "I can save both of you!" Peyton takes off their shirt and Eric puts it against his mouth and nose. Peyton grabs Justine's arm and pulls her up. Eric climbs onto Peyton's back. Peyton lifts Justine up and runs out of the house. Peyton puts Justine down and Eric slides off. Peyton looks behind them and then at Alex. They hand her the keys. "Go." Eric and Justine get in the car. "Alex come on!" Peyton kisses Alex deeply. "Go. Please. It's about to explode." Alex starts tearing up. "I can't." Peyton opens the car door and pushes Alex in. They then close the door. "Go!" Alex drives off. Just as the car gets to the street lights Alex hears a loud explosion. She starts crying and tries to turn around. Justine stops her and they keep going. Once Alex gets to a gas station she gets out of the car and falls to her knees. Justine and Eric are there holding her a few seconds later. Alex cries on her mothers shoulder. Eric gets up and fills the gas tank. He then pays. Justine helps Alex up and helps her in the car. Eric gets in the drivers seat and drives around town. "Where we gonna go?" Alex sniffles. "I have a place." Justine smiles. Eric looks confused. "Just keep driving. I'll tell you when to turn and stuff." Eric nods. About two hours later. Alex knocks on the door. Aaron opens it and smiles. He hugs Alex. "How are you?" Aaron puts Alex down. "I'm okay. Hey is it okay if we stay for a little while?" Aaron nods. "Sure. Come in. Come in." Aaron steps out of the way. Alex,Justine and Eric walk in. "Make yourselves at home." Aaron closes the door and then goes to the kitchen. He grabs a few beers from the fridge. Aaron comes back and hands everyone a beer. "So what brings you down here?" They all take a swig of their beer. Eric coughs. "Our house burnt down. Just a couple hours ago." Aaron winces. "Damn." A few minutes go by and Aaron starts screaming. Tristine comes running. Alex holds onto him. "What's going on?" Tristine gasps. "It's Peyton. It's gotta be." Alex looks confused. Tristine looks over. "They share a bond. Whenever one of them gets badly injured the other can feel it. Literally." Aaron starts shifting as he's screaming. Tristine runs outside. She howls. Within a few minutes all of Peyton's pack comes running. "Find them. Find them now!" They all start howling and running in different directions. Later that night. Aaron grunts every few seconds. "They're okay. Dylan and a few others have them." They all nod and sigh in relief. The day of Alex's birthday. There's banging on the door. Aaron gets up to check it out. He puts his hand against Alex's chest. "Stay there." Aaron opens the blinds and sighs with relief. He opens the door. "We thought you were dead." Peyton comes in. Alex runs to them and hugs them. Peyton grunts and wraps their arms around Alex. "Easy killer. I still have some healing to do." Alex releases their grip. "Sorry." Peyton smiles. "Happy birthday." Alex kisses Peyton softly. "Thank you." Peyton offers their arm. "Come. The waiter is waiting." Alex smiles and takes hold of Peyton's arm. The two walk down the street and across. They walk into the restaurant and have a seat. "What can I get you this evening?" "We'll have your most expensive champagne to start." The waiter nods. "Here are your menus." The waiter places the menus on the table and then walks away. Alex raises her eyebrow. Peyton notices. "What? I'm rich." Alex giggles and then takes a look at the menu. "They all sound delicious but I can't choose." Peyton chuckles. "Okay okay fine. It's okay. I know just the thing for you to try." Peyton takes the menus and puts them aside. The waiter comes back over with the bottle of champagne and two glasses. He puts them down on the table and then opens the bottle. He pours the champagne into the glasses. "You ready to order?" Peyton nods. "I'll have my usual." The waiter smiles and nods. "Alright and for you miss?" Alex looks over at Peyton. "She will have the meal after mine on the menu. Without the sauce." The waiter nods and writes everything down. "First time?" Alex smiles. "How can you tell?" The waiter takes the menus. "Whenever someone orders for their date it's because they've never had Italian before." He places his hand on Alex's shoulder. "Don't worry dear. They're taking good care of you." Alex smiles as the waiter walks away. "Is he?" Peyton nods. "For a long time now. Him and my brother dated back when he was younger. Before Aaron met Tristine." Alex nods and looks back at the waiter taking other orders. "He seems cool." Peyton nods. "He's super chill. He gets high with me and my friend sometimes." Alex chuckles. "Of course he does. Would he still be cool if he didn't?" Peyton shrugs. "Yeah. He's pretty good at listening. Helps me deal with things sometimes." A few minutes later the two are eating. Peyton finishes first. "So? You enjoying it?" Alex taps her mouth with her napkin. "Shit this stuff is amazing. What is it?" Peyton smiles. "Best if you don't know." Alex shrugs and continues eating. Once finished. Alex burps. "Oops. Excuse me." Peyton laughs. "It's okay babe. You don't have to be embarrassed here." The waiter comes over. "All done?" They both nod. The waiter looks at Alex. "So?" Alex nods and gives two thumbs up. "Delicious." The waiter smiles. Peyton summons the waiter over to them. They whisper something in the waiter's ear. He smiles and nods. He then walks away. Alex looks confused. Peyton smiles. "You'll see in a sec." Alex nods. When the waiter comes back he looks at Peyton. They smile and nod. "Go on. You can do it." Alex looks confused. The waiter hands Alex a square shaped box. She takes it. Peyton chuckles. "Well open it." Alex does so and gasps.
