Chapter 11

Annabeth cursed in Greek after their joint attack failed. While she was racking her brain for another strategy, Luke was having an internal panic.

'Damn it! With him here, my plan would crumble. I need some way to get rid of him... But how?' He thought, while Percy was thinking.

"Is this dude really my age? Isn't he like a fully-fledged deity with that strength? Oh god, now I'm ashamed of being proud fighting that minotaur," Percy mused.

"I can hear all of your thoughts and brains cracking up from here. Next time, think silently!" Marcus said, then threw another shield at them that he grabbed from the ground.

Their thoughts were cut short as the shield approached them at astonishing speed. They did manage to defend against it, but they were sent flying away.

"Dude, you know we already lost, right?" Percy remarked.

"I know," Marcus replied. But even though Marcus knew he had won, he still wanted to relish in their defeat.

"Say surrender, and I'll end this," Marcus offered.

"And let Clarisse's stinky flag be raised? No way, José!" Annabeth shouted.

Marcus paused for a moment and looked at them.

"Well, I guess the fight continues!" Marcus plunged at them with a sword in his hands. With a single wide sweep, the three were scattered after a deafening metallic noise.

"Hup!" Marcus stomped his feet to the ground, shocking them as they didn't expect the stomp to create a shock capable of putting them off balance.

Sweep!

With a sweeping kick, the three were caught off guard, especially Luke since he was at the utmost right, exactly where Marcus' kick came from. Luke was eliminated from that, leaving only Annabeth and Percy.

The entire crowd gasped. The strongest swordsman of three hundred years was defeated, and by a new camper no less. That was certainly enough to shock them.

Marcus went next for Annabeth, seeing that she was unguarded due to shock. This time Marcus decided to go mano a mano. He rushed towards her and closed his fist into a ball, cocking his fist back. Seeing this, Annabeth raised her spear high and prepared, though she knew that she would be sent flying, she didn't have a choice as Marcus was already at her feet.

BAM!

The fist of Marcus collided with her spear, creating a loud clang noise. She skidded through the ground from the impact, leaving a line on the ground. She was about to thrust her spear once she regained her composure, but she didn't notice Marcus was already behind her.

He kicked the back of Annabeth's knee, making her kneel. Then he followed it up by putting his arms around her neck and putting her in a rear naked choke.

"ANNABETH!!" Percy shouted.

Annabeth was already gasping for breath, but Marcus didn't let go. Percy tried to break the choke by slashing his sword at Marcus, but the latter was much more agile than he thought, even with Annabeth's neck in his arms.

Then finally, from the lack of air, Annabeth passed out.

"It's only me and you, Percy."

"What do you say we tango?" Marcus said, making Percy gulp in nervousness.

Marcus took his time to approach Percy, purposely making his steps a beat slower. He slowly took his steps, each of them making everyone's hearts skip a beat, even the ones who were eliminated, their breath bated.

Finally, he arrived in front of Percy, looking him straight in the eye, making eye contact.

Percy was shaking in nervousness as he met Marcus's gaze. It was like looking at a thunderstorm; he could feel the lightning from Marcus's eyes, causing his hair to stand up from goosebumps.

"Raise your sword," Marcus commanded, and Percy unconsciously complied, intimidated.

Once Percy raised his sword, Marcus took a step back to create distance between them. Then, at an appropriate distance, he raised his sword and assumed a stance that had been taught to them.

Then, when the two were finally ready, they clashed their swords against each other.

Ting!

Tang!

Tang!

Clank!

Slash!

Slash, thrust, sweep, strike, the two exchanged sword attacks one after another. Occasionally, Percy would stumble back, but Marcus would always give him time to regain his composure to fight again.

It seemed that Marcus had endless stamina; he had just literally taken on the entire blue team, yet here he was, not even dropping a bead of sweat.

Hup!

Marcus swung his sword with fierce force, causing Percy's sword to slip from his hands.

The sword landed on the ground with a clank. Marcus was about to end it, but he stopped mid-way into his attack.

"Pick it up," he ordered.

Percy gave him a confused look, but he still picked up his sword. Once he had it in his hand, the two once again engaged in combat.

Clank!

Tang!

Swish!

Slash!

The two clashed their swords against each other. In terms of pure swordsmanship, Percy was slightly above Marcus, but in terms of strength, power, strategy, and speed, Marcus highly outclassed him.

It had been pretty one-sided from the beginning, but Marcus didn't want to end it quickly; he wanted to see the same strength Percy displayed when he fought the minotaur.

"Come on, Percy! Where's that power you showed when you killed that minotaur?" Marcus shouted at Percy.

Slowly, more and more injuries started accumulating on Percy's body.

"Marcus, you should stop now. You've already won," Chiron said from the sideline. But he couldn't end the game until one of them won or at least surrendered.

Knowing that winning wasn't possible, Percy was about to give up, but suddenly Marcus kicked him hard and sent him stumbling toward the creek.

As soon as he fell into the creek's water, his injuries seemed to heal. They could see the injuries within Percy's body healing in real time, confirming their suspicions.

"By the gods, I thought it would be Zeus, but… this is unexpected," Annabeth mumbled. Though she had been eliminated from the game, she was still conscious and watching the fight play out.
