1 Clear Sight

Alex lulled his little sister to sleep by reciting a passage from "The Odyssey".

It was slightly disturbing how intelligent his sister Annabeth was, being able to easily read complex books at the age of seven, treating them like lullaby's.

Of course, only Alex knew that her unusual intelligence came from her lineage.

'Her unhuman lineage'

His thought process was cut short by a rustling sound in the room. Looking around, Alex spotted a retinue of spiders trying to climb their way onto Annabeth's bed.

Alex frowned.

"I should reinforce the wall of 'Mist' surrounding our house. It seems to be wearing of from the last time I cast it."

Ever since he had arrived at the Chase house, he had been surrounding their house with 'Mist', to hide from the monsters. His sister, Annabeth Chase, was like a magnet, and would constantly attract monsters wherever she went.

Alex looked towards the spiders and said

"Leave, and go back to who sent you. She is under my protection, and you will meet your demise if you continue on this path."

The spider's started with shift nervously, as if they understood what Alex had said, and eventually lined up and left through the window.

Alex shook his head.

Spiders would attack Annabeth the moment they saw her, and that was because of her divine heritage.

Her mother was Athena, the god of wisdom, civilization, mathematics, strategy, defensive warfare, crafts, the arts, and skill.

Finding out the identity of Annabeth's godly parent wasn't hard, as they had left many clues behind. Alex narrowed his search to Greek myth, since he had only ever seen Greek monsters. Considering the fact that Annabeth's mother was a women, had conceived Annabeth without giving birth to her, and Annabeth's smarts and her fear of spiders, the only candidate left was the goddess of wisdom herself.

If the story was correct, Arachne, the first spider, had challenged Athena to a contest to see who could create the first tapestry, and after a tie, was turned into a spider by Athena.

So it made sense that Arachne's grudge would extend towards their children, and that her children would harm the children of Athena.

The spiders that just left were blessed by Arachne herself, so they understood what Alex had said, and promptly made their escape.

Checking the room for any remaining spiders, Alex left the room, preparing to reinforce the barrier of 'Mist' that he had formed around his home.

It had taken years for Alex to attain this level of 'Mist' manipulation, and considering the fact that he had seen his first monster during third grade, he had a long time to practice.

Alex knew he wasn't a demigod, as his father was still alive and well, remarrying after the divorce, just like his mom.

He assumed that his ability to control the 'Mist' was related to his ability to gaze through it and see the supernatural.

There were many instances of mortal humans having special gifts in Greek mythology and helping hero's throughout their journey.

After reinforcing the 'Mist' barrier, Alex went back to his room and fell asleep, thinking that he deserved a day of rest for his efforts.
