12 Chapter Eleven: The Grind

"You sure about this? You can always continue training you know, you have a few months until Zeus sends out a quest." Daedalus said we walked through various streets in Oregon, apparently the best Agencies have multiple warehouses that hold various missions, bounties and more.

The one we're heading to is the most prominent at the moment, it had the most requests for missions and quests. According to Daedalus monster hunting has become popular due to Artemis and her hunters being an example.

"Yeah, If I want to get stronger then I also need experience, real experience." I said as he hums in contemplation. I think he just wants me to get strong enough to destroy his mark, then again who wouldn't?

"So whats the steps here? Do I just walk in, take a mission and walk out?" I ask as he shakes his head, ha~ why can't things be easy? "Then what? I need some details man." I say as he looks at me before looking ahead.

"Remember you're here to make yourself know, and fast. I need you to either do a lot of missions, at least 5 times more than the average monster hunter, or you can do a few high ranking ones." He said as I thought about it.

"How do they rank missions?" I ask as he pulls out a paper, "Is that a flier?" Is that how they promote? I honestly thought they'd use something more accessible like the internet or a tv ad, they can always use the mist or another illusion for supernatural people to see.

"Yes it is, it says here that it goes from D-S rank, if you join or are looking for missions you must start with D ranks and you must do at least 20 before moving up to D-C ranks. I'll leave that there since it will take you around a week and a half before you can get to A ranks." He said as he handed it to me.

I store it in my inventory as a quest popped up.

I tell Daedalus as he agrees with me as I take the mission, I was going to do it anyway so this is just more for me. We continue watching until we see what looks like a book store, I hold my laughter as we walk in.

Once inside I walk up to the employees only area and walk in with Daedalus, I feel a little disoriented as the system gives me a notice.

[For teleporting for the first time, you've become disoriented.]

'Neat, spatial magic huh? Thats something I'd like to learn.' I thought before I followed Daedalus through what looks like a huge building. The roof is at least 80 feet high with 100's of people moving around.

I look ahead and see a bunch of desks with people in line with carts that it reminded me of a grocery store, except with weapons and enchanted items and books. We walk up to a desk that had 'Quests' engraved into it.

We we're gaining a few looks our way, which makes sense as I'm dressed in a badass cloak along with Daedalus, and that's ignoring my cool sword on my back. We ignore them as we finally reach the desk.

Before I say anything Daedalus turns to me, "This is where I part, meet me in the Labyrinth if you need something. Good bye." Wow, leaving me with the quest lady huh? Fine then.

"Excuse me Ma'am, I would like to take a few quests." I say as she looks up at me. She stops typing on her computer and sits up before replying.

"Would you like to be registered here? Or are you a free lancer?" Well thats easy, "Free lancer." I say as she nods, unsurprised. She asks me some questions and takes a photo of me before she pulls out a list of D rank missions and a pen as I look through them. Kill a few Skeletons being the most prominent.

"I'll take these." I say as I hand it back after marking all the Skeleton ones and a bandit mission, the total adds up to 8 missions. Her eyes widen and look at me before she relaxes, probably thinking I'm experienced with killing monsters but haven't gone here immediately. Monster hunting is relatively new for mortals.

"Thank you for coming to Mortal Adventures, come back alive please." She said as I rolled my eyes, thanks. I leave the store and walk outside and summon my compass, watching it point south.

"Let the Quests begin." I said as I took my key card and tapped the ground and watched as a new entrance to the Labyrinth opens. Daedalus had added that feature as to make it easier to travel around.

"Phew, that marks quest number 20. Maybe Daedalus was right about the week and a half to get to A rank, it took me two days to get to C." I said, before pulling my status up and checking it out.

I've been rushing to get the quests done so I haven't been training, which is okay as I can now say experience is nice, I made and learned a few skills too.

These two will be useful later down the line when I'm stronger, especially the Augmentation. I've also come along slowly with Element manipulation, it seems I have minor affinities for fire, spatial, and time magic.

While the final two are amazing and rare I can't learn anything as my magical control is to low, along with my reserves. So fire's been my main focus so far and will be for a year or so.

I shake my head, those can go to the back burned, right now I should head back and take more missions.

'Hey system, play chasing cars. Haven't heard that in a while.' I thought as I start to run in the Labyrinth to the Agency.

'Ah~ Nice and relaxing, just the way I like it.'
