1 The rebel in the making

It was the beginning of a new school year.

Young Che was preparing for school, he had just graduated from high school and was looking forward to his university days.

His parents had rented a single room apartment in a university area for him to live there and attend lectures.

He had prepared his belongings and was excited meeting new faces and being called a university boy.

A month into school, it was time to test how far he and other students have been taking school serious, "just in a month and we are having test already" Young Che ask with a surprising face when the lecturer announced the tests will be coming up a days time.

Young Che went back to his single room apartment and prepared so hard for the coming exams, little did he know as he prepared, other students of the graduating badge were busy preparing for a strick, a social unrest aim at the University authority due to corruption and other mals students have been going through in the school campuse coupled with sexual harassments from school staff and authorities.

It was the final day for the exams and the protest.

Little did we know that school authorities had heard of the plan protest and were as well prepared.

They brought in security forces into the school campuse to dispuse the crowd. The "security forces" were made up of Policemen(hundreds in numbers) and gerndames in their hundreds too.

Young Che was already in class getting ready to start the earlier announced test when some students of the graduating badge came in and told the "there will be no test" and asked every student should go home.

Young Che was discouraged because he had really prepared for this test. Not knowing what was going on, Young Che joint a crowd heading for the exit of the school campuse when security forces attacked them, beat and kicking them, young Che and other students obtained serious injuries and some life threatening.

Young Che finally found his way out and ran for his life. it wasn't over yet. Security forces carried out a door to door search in the student neighborhood breaking into students rooms and taking them out for torture and maiming. Young Che was once more a victim, he was torture, maimed and locked up for 13months no trail. Students were raped by security forces, at least 28 female university students were raped and 4 killed, about 1200 students were locked up without trail, Young Che was among.

The government did not condemn the voilence on students but when on to promote the ocastrators to higher government positions.

The government went on to blame parents and students and promised more crackdown on any student activist seeking to paint them black.

As days past by, many more killings and rapes were record and fingers pointing to government security forces. Mother, sisters and the girls of that region were raped, father, husbands and young men were killed for agitating.

Then 13months past, young Che was released after his family has spent about $3500 to secure his release.

A year and some months had past by and Young Che had not achieve what he wanted in regards to his educational career.

Schools went on strike in the whole of that region. An in sergeance surfaces and guess what? peace was then something of yesterday to those in that region.
