A Return To The Roots

Ace combat pilot for hire, lieutenant Roy Mack also known as 'Razor' pushed the boosters at 100 % power and diverted 5% power from oxygen systems to the boosters.

He did not know how long he could hold this distance before they were able to get a good target on their ship.

All he had hoped was that there were persons awaiting them at the borders of Solaris.

The border of Solaris is considered neutral space and their attackers would not follow them there.

Flying into a small group of asteroids, he hoped that it would shield him in getting safely to their destination.

Then he would be safe in getting to the Lyre colony, located in pirate Space.

Explosions were felt at the side of the ship as the enemy continued firing at the moving rocks indiscriminately, hoping to hit the pirate transport ship.

Though they were not hit directly, it still caused some damage therefore reducing the ship's shield to 32 %.

A direct hit to their ship would surely destroy the ship, he thought to himself.

The fact that he had only already gotten half of the money up front, did put a damper on his thoughts especially since the gold was also on board the ship.

He smiled to himself as he executed a maneuver to avoid being targeted.

His smile turned to frown as he passed the borders and the two mech's continued to follow behind them.

They must really hate you, Razor told the doctor as minor fire hit the shield of their ship.

He was about to give up hope when his sensors indicated that something was coming towards them from the opposite direction at a top speed.

He looked forward, through the windscreen to view a lone mech approaching them which caused the two other mech's to stop pursuing.

Tyler passed the small pirate transport and headed to the two mechs that had stopped moving.

She switched to short range frequency and broadcasted as she stopped moving:

Two mech suits.! You are trespassing in Solaris Space. Your mobile suits show that you are from the Ion Colony. Turn back or your actions will be deemed an act of war against the 'memorandum of understanding,' and your superiors will definitely hear about this.

Immediately after her speech, one of the mechs, launched a stabilizer cable at her. The tips of these cables were sharp enough to pierce an asteroid. She reacted quickly to raise her left, shield arm however the arm was sluggish and didn't react in time. The tip passed over her shield and entered into the shoulder part of the mechanical suit.

Before she could react, the enemy pulled the cable and swung her mech to their right, propelling her into the small field of rocks that they had previously passed. Then he ejected the cable as Tyler was in a spin heading towards the field of floating rocks.

Trying to gain stability, her sensors blared with the sound of an incoming obstacle. Using her secondary propulsion system, she tried to regain stability as part of her mech suit grazed against some of the rocks.

As Tyler continued tail spinning, the mechs turned around to see that the ship that they were ordered to eliminate had already disappeared in the distance. Angry and frustrated, they turn their attention to the lone mech that had caused them to fail their mission.

As she began to stabilize, the display stated that mechanics to the left arm were damaged. As she clicked to silence the damage report, she could see missiles approaching her.

Executing evasive maneuvers, she flew backwards and fired bullets at each of the rockets using her targeting systems. The last one which had gotten a bit close, caused an explosion that pushed her further into the old zone.

The explosion however was an advantage as she prepared her counter attack, powering up her primary laser weapon to one hundred percent. Increasing the propulsion power from the attachment to 100% she ejected it just as it activated, launching it at her enemies. As they saw it coming, they had a few seconds to react, however she fired her primary laser weapon at one of the tanks. This caused the two of them to explode right next to the two mechs. One was able to transfer all power to their shields while the other mech exploded.

The one that survived had significant damage to the hydraulics, weapon systems and other parts of their mech. With options limited, the enemy mech flew into Tyler's mech, colliding and fastening to her.

Suddenly a video message came over Tyler's communication.

The individual that came up on the screen, who was bloodied, in a partially damaged mech said, "I will take you down with me!"

Suddenly a message came up on their screen which Tyler was able to see, with a denotation sequence alert of five minutes. Tyler cut the communication and quickly prepared to exit her mech. Though the front exit was blocked by the enemy mech, she was able to exit from the small back exit with a fire extinguisher and her evacuation pack.

Using the extinguisher, she was able to propel herself away from her mech, unnoticed by the enemy due to her being on the blind side of the mechs.

Tyler was at an acceptable distance when the explosion destroyed both of the mechs. She looked on in sadness as her favorite mech was destroyed by the enemy.

After drifting for some while, she realized that she was trapped in the nearby gravity of a blue and green planet. Her electronic device indicated that the planet in the old zone was called Earth. Reaching in her evacuation pack, she pulled out an item known as 'the bubble' and pushed the execution button.

This causes a transparent protective bubble to enclose and protect the individual from extreme heat, cold and poisonous gasses for a temporary period until the internal air runs out. In two internal sacks, there is a quick expansion foam that releases when a sudden impact takes place or the proximity alert is triggered.

Suddenly she began her descent into earth's atmosphere in her protective bubble. When she had descended into earth's lower atmosphere, she could see that her trajectory was heading towards a lake in a forested area.

The impact foam released as the proximity sensor kicked in, just before the bubble hit the water, softening the blow from the water's surface.

Swimming out of the bubble with the evacuation pack, she swam to the shore of the lake, then she took off her helmet and breathed in the natural air from the upper hillside.

Suddenly some nearby footsteps attracted her attention, so she pulled out a knife and turned to see a young man dressed in tattered jeans and a black jersey, looking at her with some concerned eyes.

"Are you all right, he asked?"
