84 History VII

Angelia did not know what the creature was, nor why was it here in her home. Seeing her father's lifeless body caused her to recall memories of him. Although she might not have liked what he was going to do, he was still her father.

Her equipment was upstairs so she was somewhat defenseless. It provided her more protection than conquering a magic barrier.

Seeing her father dead made her realize that a magic barrier would be useless in the face of this monster. Lord Frost was a skilled mage, his barrier would never break under normal circumstances. Meaning this creature either overpowered her father or held some unique ability that nullified his magic barrier.

Angelia only took a few seconds to understand this point.

Still, she could hear footsteps approaching so all she had to do was keep the creature occupied.

Yet, the creature was not going to wait on her to make the first move. It disappeared from the burning room.

Whatever it was, it was fast. Angelia had to give it that.

She could not react to it with her eyes, and even using her senses she could hardly feel where it was. This thing moved silently and could be considered an elite assassin if it were human.

As the creature materialized behind Angelia like a gust of wind, Angelia turned into black smoke.

'Two can play at this game.'

She smirked as her body reappeared not too far from her previous position. Unlike Lord Frost who was a fire mage, she was one who used darkness.

Escaping might be possible, but was not an option.

Her mouth moved as she chanted another spell as soon as she appeared. This time a black hand emerged from the ground as it grasped the creatures thin legs.

Seeing that her spell worked, Angelia followed up with another one right after.

She was a highly skilled mage for her age, but that did not mean she was the best. With her current capability, all she could do was keep the beast busy. Which is what she needed to do to buy herself some time until reinforcements arrived.

Majority of her spells were meant for deception and illusions, not combat. It worked well when she was equipped with her sword, but not by itself.

She already knew this was her fatal weakness and wanted to improve on it, but, being a mage was not easy. To learn higher-tiered skills she needed more mana and better control. It was not something that can be achieved in a short amount of time.

All of the attacking spells that she was able to learn she tossed aside. As a mage suited to dark magic, their spells would not inflict a lot of damage at a low level. It was not until later did she realize how valuable they would be if she were ever found without her sword.

A purple symbol appeared on the creature's body. This was a restraining spell, one that used a lot of her concentration. During this time she could not move, but neither could her opponent.

Angelia's eyes were focused on the creature with her hand forming a signal. As she held it her arm started to shake.

She could only grit her teeth and fight against it. This monster was trying to break out of her restraining spell with brute force.

Which was something she thought was impossible.

'Why?'

A broken voice appeared in her head. It sounded weird as if it did not truly know their language.

Angelia stared at the creature with a confused look. Was this thing trying to communicate with her? As she glared at the creature its golden eyes glowed.

Image's flowed through her head. Angelia's nose started to bleed and it felt as if her head was going to be split.

'Who?...'

When her vision returned to normal, Angelia found the creature was gone from her sight. Her body felt weak as her mana was drained.

She knew that it had broken free in the short time her concentration split due to her receiving information about something.

What were those images? Who were those people?

Angelia wanted answers.

Something told her that this thing that attacked her was the only way to get the information she desired. Yet, she could barely hold herself together.

Borris rushed into the hall with the other guards and quickly took notice of Angelia's state as well as the burning room. As he went to give his order, he felt something was off.

His body seemed to flash as he shoved Angelia out of the way.

Something ripped through his armor causing harm to his shoulder.

"What in Nessa's name is that?"

A guard cried out with a hint of fear in his voice.

"It does not matter what it is. We kill it!"

Borris told his men as he drew his sword.

The guards nodded and took up stances preparing for battle.
