8 Chapter 8

"Library, then what about the principle of Eidos." Igarashi muttered after going through some of his memories. In the end, after trying every viable option, none seems to be working at the moment.

While Igarashi did have his own speculations, so far, nothing seems to go his way yet.

[Searching…]

[Accessing records and events of the term "Eidos."]

["Eidos" found.]

[Matches found: 9]

[Chances of currently obtaining "Eidos."]

[Zero.]

'I knew it wouldn't work though.' Igarashi sighed; he wasn't surprised. 'But, isn't the Eidos associated with information and events? Besides, isn't the library similar to Eidos?'

Igarashi frowned again, or was thinking a little too much into it?

'No way. The library stores information, records and event, which is technically, in some way, how Eidos does work. And if that isn't the case…'

'Then, it should be—'

[—Insufficient understanding of the principles of "Eidos" and it's "Log".]

'Yup! Just as I thought.' Igarashi face churned with cringe as he shook it off with a wry smile. 'I should have delved deeper into the lore while I could.'

'Library…'

[…]

'Screw you.'

[…]

'Of course it's a joke.'

Other than wanting to manifest physical materials from the library, the other thing Igarashi desires, after going through his memories is the manipulation of Eidos and its Logs.

However, it's only natural it wouldn't be this easy. Heck obtaining access to Eidos and its Logs may as well be impossible. The principles here are different.

The connection to Eidos and its Logs is pretty non-existent, or perhaps they could be another principle that acts in place of Eidos. 'Or maybe—'

"—We'll be stopping here for today; the sun is setting. It's not safe to continue traveling in the evening like this."

Just when, Igarashi laid his back against the wall of the carriage. The coachman called out to Igarashi and Shizu inside the carriage.

Shizu, hearing the coachman's voice, peered outside to see darkness enveloping the surroundings.

It was only expected, that they wouldn't reach Ingrassia in a day or two. Which was why Igarashi needing the time to prepare enough for their long trip.

"I see, thank you. Then, let's find a clearing and stop here for now. Tomorrow morning, we'll continue," Igarashi voiced out while stretching his hand, still in contemplation.

Banzai to parallel processing.

"…?" Shizu, seeing the expression on his face, puzzled, tilted her head to the side as she had seen him sitting down, just staring off into space for almost the entire day.

"Alright," the coachman curtly replied before coming to a stop after locating a clearing not far away. Bringing the carriage to a halt, allowing the horse to rest as Igarashi and Shizu got down.

"Haah, I'm burnt out," Igarashi muttered with a somewhat tired tone as he stretched his hands up in the air before turning back to the carriage, rummaging through some things inside. "Hmm, ah, found it."

"What's up… You've been spacing out for the entire day; I hope nothing's wrong?" Shizu, behind him, couldn't help but approach him and ask as Igarashi pulled out a bag, carrying it delicately.

"Ah, I was working on something, but no matter how much I tried, it's not working," Igarashi stated with a shrug, while holding the bag that seemed heavy, evident as he held them with both hands.

With a pause, Igarashi looked left and right, before continuing. "We'll need some firewood."

"Then, let me get that for you," Shizu volunteered raising up her hand before she seemingly disappeared from her spot, leaving Igarashi behind, who whistled before...

"…Now then, shall I get to work?" Muttering a few words.

Igarashi went back to the carriage, bringing out a small compact pot along with a small stand to support it. arranging it in the middle spot of the clearing, where he rounded off some nearby stones together.

—Author's thought: I honestly don't know if something like a spatial bag exists, I didn't know what to do, so I just winged it, and wrote he packed all his ingredients manually, as for water, he bought a compact water tank, along with some bags that holds drinking water.

The ingredients were already packed into the bag, and all that's left is for Shizu to bring back some logs for firewood.

—It didn't take long for Shizu to return, carrying a bundle of firewood. Heck, she was even carrying more than he needed.

"I'm back," Shizu called out as she dropped the pieces of wood on the ground. Igarashi made his way over to her. "Ooh, thank you."

Thanking her, Igarashi sorted out some pieces of wood, taking them to the middle of the clearing where he had set up everything he needed.

Arranging the firewood, within the circle he made, directly under the pot. Igarashi exhaled, as he stretched his hand towards the firewood, igniting it with his Extra Skill: Flame Manipulation.

Shizu, seeing the setup, felt her stomach rumble slightly. No, it was not only her; the coachman too seemed to be looking forward to it.

Not holding back herself, Shizu curiously approached as she asked Igarashi, who was setting the fireplace, "So, Yuuto-kun, can you cook?"

He chuckled lightly, "Well, I can, however…" His voice trailed off as he stared at the ingredients in contemplation.

"I've been here for a month, trying to replicate our home world's food, but then… I've not been having enough luck with it. It's kinda harder than I thought."

Igarashi sighed, his brows furrowed in frustration before silently mused to himself, 'That's why I want that library function so bad.'

Though he wasn't sure if the ingredients would retain their composition, given they're organic materials from his previous world.

"That's why tonight… I'll be making a simple stew, but don't worry, I'll make it satisfactory."

As he said that, Igarashi tapped deep into his memories that would technically be considered forgotten, as he doesn't consciously remember those events.

However, even though he doesn't recall them… By transferring his memories into an internal metaphorical hard drive - the library.

Coupled with its functions, accessing these forgotten memories is easy, to say the least.

In other words, as long as Igarashi has the memories, even though he himself might have subconsciously forgotten, the library has those records, and Igarashi can draw out those records anytime he wants.

Of course, Igarashi himself still retains his memories, at least the ones he hasn't subconsciously forgotten. The library is only like a backup where he can recall said memories faster.

'By searching for multiple ingredients that are considerably similar to that of my previous world, to some extent, I should be able to recreate some.' Igarashi thought, as he poured some oil inside the pot.

There were some items he couldn't take because he had no way of preserving them, and the library isn't capable of storing physical material much like the library can't manifest physical materials.

'Ugh, no soy sauce,' Igarashi cringed as he cut up the ingredients. While some ingredients were exactly similar to that of his previous world, some weren't here. 'Thankfully there's meat!'

After cutting the ingredients up, Igarashi proceeded to marinate the meats before dumping them into the pot alongside onion, letting the onions cook the meat for some minutes—author has no idea what he's saying.

Letting it cook for some minutes, Igarashi added a cup of water from a small water container he bought. Using magic would have been more effective, however, so far, he has only learned how to use fire.

'I should have also spent time learning how to use water magic too.' Igarashi sighed before noticing two hungry stares from behind him, one from Shizu, and the other from the coachman. 'Haha…'

Anyways, mixing the ingredients and letting it cook before adding an Igarashi-special love potion—ahem, I mean, thanks to Igarashi bargaining with a certain restaurant owner, he was able to acquire an ingredient similar to stew paste… However, 'not spicy enough…'

He always had a knack for spicy foods, however, since this world doesn't meet his ends meet, he had always dealt with it. But still, 'it isn't just right!' This is blasphemy!

Thanks to Igarashi's [Extra skill: Flame Manipulation], he was able to either maintain or increase the heat needed.

Of course, the author is aware of the mistakes he made when writing about the food Igarashi is making, but honestly, wo cares? I mean, since when did this become food wars?

'He really can cook.' Shizu thought as her stomach rumbled softly, tantalized by the aroma wafting through the air.

Thinking it wasn't proper of her, she promptly adjusted her demeanor before looking towards the coachman who was not in a better state, as his stomach grumbled loudly.

As if sensing Shizu's gaze, the man turned over with an apologetic gaze, but Shizu shook it off, as she was in a similar state too.

"The wait is over." Igarashi's voice rang out as he gently moved the pot from the fireplace, placing it on a stable piece of wood Shizu had cut apart.

Seeing this, Shizu and the coachman gulped down even harder. "I'm sorry, my cooking skills might be lacking, so please bear with me."

Hearing Igarashi's words, both Shizu and the coachman looked at each other in confusion as they thought in sync, 'No way, no way, there's no way food that smells that good will be bad!'
