Roland is a mere undergraduate student, but by strange circumstance, is also in the employ of the magus of a wholly different magical world. Between his studies and his commitments, he travels to and from the world of Hristomver as the Outsider, he acts as advisor to the Magister Madeline, using contemporary skills and knowledge to bring the wonders of the modern world to the Kingdom of Straskey. However, Hristomver runs by its own cycle of civilizations and peoples, Straskey is one of five kingdoms from a shattered whole, and the lands rumble with ambition as men seek to reunite the realm.
