Chapter 1

I live in a small village that is known as Foosha Village.

I live together with my twin brother and my caretaker.

I don't know where my father or mother is.

The only blood family that I know is my twin brother Luffy and my grandfather, Garp.

But our grandfather doesn't come home a lot.

Makino, our caretaker basically raises us.

Luffy and I look a lot like each other.

Sometimes it confuses people who are who.

So, I decided to grow my hair long and tie it in a ponytail

Luffy is my irreplaceable brother.

My partner in crime when we play pranks on the major.

The name of the major is Woop Slap.

An old man with such a name actually exists.

We play pranks on him because we can't take him seriously.

We are known as the goofballs of our village.

Luffy and I rarely interact with the other kids on the island.

There are some really nice villagers here too like Gyoru and Chicken.

They have a store with a lot of different fish.

They taste good too.

One day a fisher alerted the village that a pirate ship is coming this way.

The pirate ship that anchored at this small seaport village was from the Red Hair Pirates.

Their captain was named Shanks.

He is a good pirate.

They didn't raid our village or stole something.

They visited the Partys Bar, Makino's bar.

They drunk and ate a lot.

I feel a bit embarrassed that I only thought that there are bad pirates in this world.

Even Makino enjoyed their presence.

It was fun to tease her when I was mimicking Shanks and saying that I love her.

As usual, the Red Hair Pirates were eating and drinking at the bar.

Luffy and I were hanging out at the pirate ship as usual.

"Benn, stop Luffy he got a knife in his hands," I shouted.

"What's wrong with that? Leave him be," he said while passing Luffy.

"AH! Luffy and weapons aren't a good combination."

Luffy was standing on the top of the figurehead.

"Hey, Luffy! What are you trying to do?!

"I'm really serious! I'm so pissed! I'm going to prove it to you!" Luffy said while baring his teeth.

"Yeah, do it! I don't know what you're going to do though!"

"Don't encourage him!" I shouted.

Luffy held the knife with two hands and pointed it towards his face and stabbed his left cheek.

"AAH!"

"OUCH!"

"You idiot! What are you doing?!"

I dragged Luffy who wasn't trying to cry back home.

The Red Hair Pirates went with us and started partying.

"Cheers, guys!"

"To Luffy's guts and our great journey!"

"Makino, these guys are no good. Cheering for something like this."

"Leave them be, Lance. They are who they are. Luffy, are you okay?"

"I'm okay. Oh, it didn't hurt at all." Luffy said with tears in his eyes.

"Stop acting though. If you be so reckless it will be your dead next time."

"Says the one who is acting like he doesn't have it warm. Wearing long sleeves and long pants with this weather."

We were sticking our tongues out.

"That's a lie. Don't do such a stupid thing." Shanks said.

"It's not a lie. I'm not scared of getting hurt. Take me to your next voyage! I want to be a pirate too!"

"As if you could ever be a pirate."

"Luffy, you shouldn't become one."

"It's a fatal flaw for a pirate to be an anchor!"

"I'll be okay if I don't fall out of the ship. I am good at fighting too! I'm well trained so my punches are like pistols."

"Pistols? Is that really, Lance?"

"Why are you asking my brother?"

"Because he always tells the truth."

"Luffy, you should start doing that too."

All of a sudden one of the doors was kicked out.

"Sorry for the interruption. So, these are the so-called pirates. They look like idiots." the man said while advancing further towards the bar.

"Welcome!" Makino said.

"We are bandits. We need 10 barrels of sake."

"I'm sorry! But we're out of sake out of the moment."

"Hmm? That's strange... The pirates are drinking something... Is it water?"

"All the sake we have is out there."

"That's not good. We drank everything. Sorry. If you want, you can have this. I haven't opened it yet." Shanks said while trying to hand the bottle to him.

As a response, the bandit slammed the bottle.

"I'm a wanted man. I'm worth 8 million Belli. One bottle won't be nearly enough."

"Now the floor is all wet. Sorry about that, Makino-san. Do you have a mop?" Shanks said while picking up the broken pieces.

"I will take care of it."

The bandit unsheathed his sword and made more mess.

"Looks like you enjoy cleaning. You will enjoy this even more. Let's go. Later cowards."

This made me frustrated.

"Are you alright? Are you hurt anywhere, Captain?" Makino said while crouching down next to him.

"I'm fine, no problem."

All of a sudden, his whole crew started laughing.

"Why are you laughing?! That wasn't cool! Why didn't you fight back? No matter how many there are or how strong they look, if you don't fight back, you're not a man! You're not a pirate!"

"It's not that I don't understand your feelings… But they only spilt some sake. That's something you get mad over."

"I don't care anymore!" As he started eating something I have seen before.

"Oh! I have eaten such a thing too. It tasted really bad."

"What are you eating?! That box... Did you eat something that was in that box?" Shanks shouted.

"Spit out! Spit out!" he shouted while shaking Luffy upside down.

"Lance," Benn said.

Hearing his voice behind me made shiver.

My surroundings turned all of a sudden in ice.

Luffy tried to explore what happened as his head and legs stretch out.

"Luffy, Lance! Do you know what you guys have eaten? Luffy you ate rubber rubber fruit and you lance you ate the frost frost fruit. Those 2 are called devil fruits. After eating one you will never be able to swim."

"AH!"

"AH!"

The evening went further by being questioned of how I encountered the devil fruit.

I only encountered a strange mysterious white fruit that looked awesome.

So, I ate it.

Luffy was still upset and disappointed that his role model didn't fight back.

Back then I couldn't do anything.

I am weak.

Since I ate this dumb fruit, I should put it to use.

The Frost-Frost Fruit.

I can produce snow and ice.

I don't have it hot with warm weather.

Benn said that Luffy and my fruit was a Paramecia no... a Paramecia-type.

Deciding to call it a day, I went back home and I saw Luffy and the bandit's men beaten up.

The leader of them threw a smoke bomb.

When the smoke bomb cleared up.

The bandit leader took Luffy with him on a boat and threw him out in the sea.

Luffy couldn't swim.

A giant sea monster appeared trying to eat the bandit leader and Luffy.

Shanks sacrificed his arm to save Luffy of the giant sea monster.

Shanks gave Luffy his head.

Two days later, the Red Hair Pirates started to prepare to depart from this island.

"Hey kid, you going to be pirate too?" Benn asked.

I shook my head.

"I am going to be someone strong who can catch bad guys like that bandit."

"So, a marine."

"Marine? Like Gramps."

"I think so. Since you will become a marine means you will catch pirates like Shanks, Luffy and the rest."

"Only the bad. Luffy and you guys are good ones."

"How do you know for sure which one is a bad or a good one?"

"I will follow my guts," I said proudly.

He chuckled.

"I see. Try your best, kid."

"Yes!"
