Victims

It was one the most grotesque sight I had ever seen in my life and I had seen a lot of grotesque things since the start of the apocalypse.

The creature… was a solid blob of mass that was made up of the bodies of thousands, no, tens of thousands of abnormals.

Torso, heads, legs, arms, hearts, intestines, stomach. Every part and organ of the body was on full display in front of me.

It seemed as someone had taken tens of thousands of bodies, put them in a grinder and then meshed them up in a ball to create the… creature in front of me.

Four giant legs made up of thousands of legs supported it's weight and numerous tentacles, made up of hands dangling from it's bottom wriggled around and caught anything that came under it's body.

I was a 4th tier abnormal being snatched from the ground and being absorbed into that… thing without it being able to put any resistance.

Not that it tried.

Abnormals from tens of kilometers could be seen converging in this place as they came close to the… thing and it simply absorbed it in it's body.

I felt bile rise in my throat with disgust and fear.

It was slow. Giant but slow.

I was fairly certain that I would be able to run away from it if it came after me.

But for some reason, that thought did not brought me any relief.

My instincts were telling me that this thing… whatever it was, was dangerous.

Immensely so.

I turned to look in the direction of Netra and found that she had a grave expression on her face.

I had never seen such an expression on her face when she faced against an enemy.

Her expression only made me more certain that this thing was dangerous.

As if reading my mind, she turned to look at me.

Her grave expression softened a bit at my sight and she jumped from her tree to mine without making any noise.

"We need to get out of here." She whispered in my ears and I nodded in return.

I had no wish to stare at the thing forming in front of me either.

I turned back and followed behind Netra who was already jumping from tree to tree.

Whatever that thing was, it had unnerved Netra quite a bit.

—————

I took deep breaths and fell on the ground with exhaustion.

We have been running for a while now but I was still able to see the 300 meter tall monster in the horizon.

It loomed over everything else on it's four large legs and devoured the abnormals one by one with it's numerous tentacles.

"What the hell is that?" I asked in a tired voice between deep breaths.

Netra had ignored all my questions when we were running away from the forest and I had a feeling that she was hiding something from me.

Well, it was not like she was entitled to tell me everything that I wanted to know or something. But the fact that she was so blatantly ignoring me still hurt a bit.

She didn't look in my direction when I asked the question but instead started typing something in her black watch.

I frowned a bit before getting up and looking around us for any hostile parties.

If I had learned anything in the past two months, it's that complacency and arrogance will get you killed faster than weakness.

The area was clear but out in the corner of my eyes, I saw some movement.

I instantly zoomed in on that area and frowned.

A group of seven people were chasing after three women.

I turned to tell Netra but the loud sound of gun shots broke her out of her black watch.

She looked in that direction and I was sure that she would be able to see the current situation without even using the 'Advanced Vision' Skill. A Fiend's senses were just that good.

"Those fuckers" She cursed and the next moment she became a blur and vanished out of my sight.

I sighed at her actions and ran after her.

We should create some kind of plan before diving in such situations. Tough to be truthful, I doubt a few people who are still being reliant on guns would be able to do anything to her.

But damn she was fast.

By the time I reached her, all seven of the people who were shooting at the three women were dead.

Twitch.

Oh wait. One of them is still alive.

I looked at Netra from the shadows and realized that she was give medicinal aid to one of the girl who got shot at her shoulder and was bleeding profusely.

I knew that Netra would take care of her so I focused on the person whose hand and leg had been crushed but was still alive.

I observed the three girls for a moment longer just to make sure that they were not a threat the Netra who was rather naive despite her skill level.

Both of them were shivering in fear which was not something that can be faked so I marked them as victims.

I will still keep an eye on them just to be sure that they are not dangerous but for now, I needed to deal with the last one who was acting dead.

His left hand along with his shoulder had been crushed by a punch from Netra and I could understand why she would take him for dead.

But I did not miss the way his fingers slowly slid to the handgun lying a foot away from him.

He took the gun and raised it to aim at Netra but before he was able to do anything else, a kick from me pulverised his hand and another broke his windpipe and his spine.

"You should be more careful Netra." I admonished in a gentle tone and she looked at what I had done and murmured a sheepish apology before she went back to healing the wounded girl.

The other two girls flinched as I turned to them and I sighed inwardly at their reactions.

All of their clothes had signs of tear in many places and they looked exhausted and haggard.

One did not have to think too much to understand what had happened to them.

It would be hard for them to trust another man after what had happened to them.

I gave them a nod before going back in the shadows and leaving Netra to deal with them.

It'll better for a girl to help them right now instead of me.
