5 Chapter 5: Wolf

Elize cocked her head t the side in confusion, momentarily forgetting that she was kidnapped.

"Do I know you?" She asked.

The man standing in front of her was surprised for a moment. But he was quick to mask it. His face hardened once again. Elize stepped out of the room and slowly started walking towards him. She didn't know what came over her. But it was as if by instinct- she wanted to be closer to him. She knew that she was forgetting something.

She wanted to know something. What was it?

The man was quite tall, Elize thought. Maybe even taller than Alex.

Alex! Her brother is not with her!

She stopped in the middle of the corridor, one step away from the stranger. She pointed her index finger at his face.

"You! You took me here!" Elize accused the man, narrowing her eyes.

He stood looming over Elize, looking down at her with his expression unchanged as if she didn't matter. A low growl erupted from somewhere, in a warning.

"How dare you point your finger at our Alpha?!" A voice thundered from behind him.

It was the other man that he was talking to a while before. Elize stepped sideways to see the man behind the voice. He was tall - but at least three inches shorter than the man who he just called Alpha. He had clear brown eyes and pale skin. His black hair was held back neatly by a band. His black t-shirt was strained by the muscles underneath. Wherever his skin was exposed- it was covered in tattoos- except on his face.

She raised her right eyebrow at him "Then, would you like to answer my question?"

The man seemed to get more irritated with her by the second.

"Enough Mikail. She's just a woman." Blue eyes commanded in a deep voice.

At this, the tattooed man backed off, bending his head. But his fists were clenched. For a moment, Elize wanted to step closer to the origin of that voice. But she resisted. How dare he insult womankind?!

"What. Did. You. Just. Say?!!!" Elize screamed. "JUST a woman you tall piece of shit?!"

She couldn't help it. They were asking for it. At this, the stranger turned towards her, clearly annoyed. He opened his mouth to say something and then closed it as if he knew better than that.

Elize counted down to ten and breathed slowly to calm herself down. She can't be distracted. She needed her answers.

"Look," she said with more determination, "I think I got lost. I need to find my brother. Is this the Island?"

The man narrowed his eyes. "How do you know about this place?"

Relieved at the obvious answer to that question, she relaxed a bit.

She explained. "You see, I was invited. Someone is waiting for me and I bet she is worried sick right now."

His gaze on her hardened. He didn't believe her.

"How did you open a portal? You don't smell like a human."

Elize was taken aback. How could he know that?! And what does he mean smell?

"I don't know what you're talking about." Elize fidgeted.

The man inched closer to her as she retreated from his presence. He cornered her against a wall. He placed his hands on either side of the wall and bent dangerously close to her face.

"Don't lie to me woman. I can smell your fear. You lie." He said, breathing down on her.

Elize didn't know what to do. She had a strange urge to lean closer to him and smell him. He smelled like the earth on a rainy day mixed with sweet honey. She shook her head. Not right now, she thought to herself. She closed her eyes and concentrated on the man now standing in front of her. She needed to escape.

'Move'! She forcibly willed her magic onto the man now blocking her.

He staggered back a bit. But that was enough for her. She launched herself towards the other side of the corridor and ran as fast as she could.

Running down the hallway, she spotted stairs leading to the lower floor. She took a sharp right and bolted down the stairs. She looked back- no one was following her. Thank heavens! She passed so many people who were glaring at her. No one tried to stop her.

She ran for what seemed like an eternity until she reached the ground floor. Straight ahead, she spotted a large door that was leading towards the outside. Finally! She thought.

She ran straight outside and jumped the five stairs separating the building from the ground. That was a mistake. She tripped and fell straight onto the hard ground.

Pain shot across her head, which took a direct hit. She made herself sit up somehow. She was feeling numb towards the left side of her head. Something was oozing down her hair towards her ear. She felt around the side with her now dirty hand.

"Ouch!" Elize exclaimed, looking at her hand.

There was blood on it. She felt dizzy all of a sudden. No. She needed to get up and run. She pushed herself up from the ground slowly. Everything was spinning in front of her. She placed her right hand above her wound and tried pushing her magic onto it.

'Heal'.

She willed with all she had. She could feel the skin around her wound stretching, slowly mending itself.

"That figures." Someone whispered to her ear from her back.

Startled, she turned around. There stood the little boy from the beach, with the same wide smile plastered on his face.

"Brandt." He said, extending his right hand towards her.

At least he had a t-shirt on him this time, she thought. Elize starting backing off.

"Don't run. I won't harm you."

"You're with them!" She accused, narrowing her eyes at him.

Brandt shrugged his shoulders as if she was stating the obvious.

"Don't come near me. I warn you. I can hurt you if I want to." She warned.

He nodded in agreement.

"But I can help you." He offered.

"How?" She asked.

Elize was suspicious of the boy. He might be a boy. But he was one of them. She started walking backward, with her face turned towards him.

"You want to know where your brother is?"

At that Elize stopped. "You know where he is?"

A small smile formed on his boyish face.

------------------------------------------------------------

The boy whose name was Brandt took Elize right into the woods. After a ten minute walk, a clearing came about. A big white cottage was in the middle of it. Opening its huge wooden front doors, he motioned her inside. Elize hesitated, but followed him inside nonetheless.

Turning towards a room, she saw Alex sitting on a large bed with his head in his hands. He looked as if he was deep in thought.

"Alex!" Elize exclaimed at the sight of her brother.

Alex looked up at his sister, startled. Relief washed over his features as soon as he saw her. He got up from the bed and ran towards her, embracing her for a good five minutes.

"Thank heavens you're here Elize! I was so worried. Where were you all this time?" Alex enquired, holding his sister away from him to get a good look at her.

"I'm okay Alex. I'm here." Elize said with a smile on her face.

Alex smiled back.

"But where were you?"

Elize smiled "I-"

She was cut off by a low growl. It was coming from outside the building. She looked around at Brandt confused.

Brandt shrugged his shoulders "Looks like he found you."

Alex put his sister behind him protectively. "Who-"

The front door fell with a loud crash. Elize jumped at the explosion.

Beside her, she could feel Alex tense up. His body was suddenly shivering and was getting hotter by the minute.

"Alex!" She pulled at her brother's hand. "Alex, what is happening?!"

"Get away from him!" Boomed a familiar voice from the doorway.

Alex's shivering increased. He bent down and fell on the floor as if in pain.

"Alex!" Elize fell next to him. She sat on the floor and shook her brother frantically.

Suddenly something whisked her away from her brother. Somehow she was now standing outside the cottage. She heard Alex scream her name from inside the house, followed by a low growl.

She ran inside without thinking twice. Something was happening to Alex. She had to heal him!

There, in the hall outside the bedroom in which they were standing a few minutes ago, were two huge creatures facing each other, ready to tear each other apart. Brandt was standing right behind them, his expression unfazed. What are they?! A sense of deja vu washed over Elize.

Wolves. They were wolves!

"Wolf." She whispered, unable to believe what was in front of her.

Two pairs of brown eyes fixed on Elize. One of the wolves was staring at her, intent on something. It seemed to tell her to run.
