What Heidi said hurt her. But Elize knew that the girl's sentiments had a truth to it. When she had first arrived on the Island, Zack and Nina were a couple. They had broken up because of her. Although she knew it, she had previously assumed it natural for Zack to come back to her since he was her mate. But she had never asked Nina how she had felt. It's not that she didn't care for her, but rather, she hoped that the relationship hadn't meant much to her friend. Elize suddenly felt selfish. 

But what bothered her more was the way Heidi said it. It felt like she was talking about something more than Zack and Nina. Why did the girl say that she didn't want Nina to get hurt again? She had never looked at Nina and felt that she was in pain? Was she hurt before? Did her arrival cause her friend's wounds to reopen? She wondered, feeling guilty.

"I'd never hurt Nina willingly," Elize said, keeping her eyes on the floor.
