13 Three Days in the Wilderness

(AN: This chapter is written like a journal)

Day 1- After walking for about an hour, we reached the mountains. There was only one path. It was very narrow and definitely wasn't well-trodden. We hiked for around thirty minutes before we decided to take a break. We found a large smooth rock to sit on and ate some of the food Kiyo packed. While Kiyo was telling us to keep an eye out for edible plants, Miya remembered how I said I was looking for edible plants before I tumbled down the cliff. So I was basically forced to go explore the area for food with Miya. I was a bit worried about leaving Kiyo and Lyla together, since I heard their argument last time, but Miya convinced me it would be okay.

We managed to find plants that resemble a species of plants on earth called Typha or Cattails. To test the plant, I rubbed it against my hand and left it on my skin for fifteen minutes (AN: This is an easy, but risky way to test for contact poison) there was no reaction, next, I placed it on my mouth and waited again. For the last test, I placed a piece of the plant on my tongue and had Miya prepare water for an emergency. There were no strange tastes so I could conclude that the plant was safe to eat. We picked a good amount of the plant and stuffed them into Miya's bag.

After the four of us got together, we continued traveling. When the sky started getting dark we decided to find a safe place for the night. We found a place with a few trees we could use as shelter and gathered wood to build a sleeping area and start a fire. Lyla brought a flint and steel so starting a fire wasn't too difficult and Kiyo was somehow able to pact a small pot. For dinner, we used the leaves of the cattail for a salad and boiled the stems with some dried meat for soup. We went to bed pretty early since we were going to have a long day tomorrow if we wanted to get our destination within three days.

Day 2- Today was quite boring, we wanted to arrive at our destination tomorrow so we didn't rest much and traveled as efficiently as we could. In the afternoon, Miya and I went to look for edible plants again. This time we found clovers! They looked the same, except clovers in this world usually have four leaves. Apparently three leave clovers are rarer. The day passed quickly, and soon, it was night again. Dinner was similar to yesterday's except we had bread and Kiyo had found nuts. Today's soup was made with clovers, a type of tree leaves and dried meat.

Day 3- It's the last day of our journey. I just wanted to sleep in today, but Kiyo forced us up. We continued traveling like we did yesterday, I must say I was a bit ecstatic. It's been a while since I was so excited for something. We did a good job saving food so we didn't need to gather plants today. At around half past the fifth hour, we started seeing buildings in the distance...
