44 Settled down

'Finally! I'm starting my job at the adventurer's guild today!' "Good morning!" I greeted the receptionist. "Morning, Miss Cecilia. The guild manager is waiting to speak with you." I walked upstairs to the manager's office. "Excuse me?" I knocked on the door. "You may enter." I walked into the surprisingly messy room. " "Hello?" "So you're the new abbess?" The middle aged man answered. "That's correct." 'There was an abbess before me?' "Unfortunately, I have to inform you that it would be difficult to find a job with that title." "I see, I understand. Thank you for your time." 'First time being rejected at an interview. In another world no less.'

"I never said it was impossible to get a job. Having an abbess work for us could dramatically improve the guild's reputation. I'd like to offer you a position as part of our recruitment staff. You'll help sort job listings and authorize new adventurer certificates." 'Why did he not say the good news first?! Don't break the bad news if you don't have any!' "Thank you for the position, I look forward to working at this guild!" "You don't have to look forward to working, you can start now. Have the receptionist, Emi, show you around." 'Do I really have to work under this guy for the next year? Oh well, it's not like we'll be coworkers.' I left the office.

"Miss Cecilia! How was the interview?" Emi asked cheerfully. 'Assuming that she knows the manager's personality. Is she joking with me?' "It was... alright. I'll be working in recruitment." "Then I should introduce myself since we'll be coworkers from now on. My name is Emily, you can me Emi." "Then you can just drop the 'miss'. It's nice knowing you, Emi." Emi walked me over to the room I'll be spending about six hours a day in for the next year.
