29 Nostalgia

"Hey! Wait!" Earlier I had tried to get Rian to stop strangely walking behind me. But now, instead, he had started walking in front of me. I've never been able to get along with people but, I'm positive even if I could, I'd still be tempted to ditch him and travel on my own. "Wait!" I shouted again. "Alright, I'll stop being mad." "Mad? For what?" I questioned. He stared at me for a second then walked over and patted my head while smiling creepily. Oh, right. When we fist met I had unconsciously patted his head. Is that something to be mad over though? We continued walking.

It was close to lunch time, so I found a nice place that was shaded by trees to rest and prepare lunch. We exchanged a few words during lunch, but we avoided talking afterwords.

It was getting late, the sun had just started setting. "We should start setting up a shelter." Rian agreed and he helped find four large branches we could use to make a tent out of.

After we finished setting up the tent, I started making dinner. Kiyo packed me some bread so I toasted it and made a sandwich with them using edible plants and preserved meat. I remembered I had picked some tarragon[1] earlier. I handed a piece to Rian. "How did you know I liked the taste of this plant?" Rian asked. "Just a guess, you remind me an old friend of who liked it."

"Hey... You're not from this world, are you?" The question took me by surprise. "What do you mean." "That object hanging from your neck doesn't belong to this world." I took out the core. "And how would you know?" I said while faking certainty. He stayed quiet. "It's getting dark, let's go get some rest." I went into the tent and pretended to be asleep. After a while, I actually fell asleep.
