14 So Close But So Far. 《1》

He got off wearing the school basketball shirt, he held his favorite shoe bag which was a jagged pattern of black and white which Cathryn gave to him on his 14th birthday last 9th of December. And the jeans he wore was the one on the first day of school.

"Nathan!" They shouted as they approached him, running. Which led to me, being left alone.

As his car was slowly going off, he gave them a hug and went straight to the door, passing by me. I'm pretty sure we have the same face... The "Shit! He's here!" face because neither of us even looked at each other's eyes that were filled with so much despair. I went ahead and stepped back from his path as he walked.

He arrived at the door with a happy looking Cathryn that welcomed him. "Nathan! What took you so long?!' She said as they hugged in front of us all. She let her in first then in we went.

Immediately after we went in, we were surprised by the amount of preparation Cathryn has put into this. Snack bowls to the right, drinks to the left. And most importantly, 3 big comfy couches in front of a huge flat screen TV. All to us. Well, the first floor I mean according to Cathryn.

"But as long as we don't make too much noise, we'll be alright." Cathryn added as we all gathered around the table to the right that was in the middle of the snacks and the TV.

I think I was supposed to be excited for this but no, I wasn't, surprisingly.

"Don't forget these, sweetie." Cathryn's mom went down the stairs beside the living room to hand her a big bowl filled with crisp potato chips. "Okay, Mom!" She replied taking it and giving the bowl to us after kissing her mom on the forehead.

We then proceeded to sit down on the comfy beige couches. Blythe sitting with Luna, Hannah with me and of course, Nathan with Cathryn. "All" of us were excited to watch the movie, some were already eating the snacks.

"Cath, where's your dad?" Hannah asked with a mouthful of chips.

"Went away on a business trip for the month. But it's okay, he gave me 500 while he's gone." She replied embracing Nathan's arms. Then suddenly I could hear Hannah stop breathing. Well, I'm pretty sure everyone did just hearing that.

"Yeah, I can see that." I said loudly and nodded while looking at my phone.

But the room was still lifeless. " Guys! Wake up!" She said clapping her hands in front of us. Then they snapped back. " Okay, first movie...." She added while looking through the movie list that was displayed on the screen. But I had the least amount of interest anyone could have in the whole room. I just opened my messages app to check Dad's message. "Buy some fresh garlic and onions for me on the way home, will you? Thank you!" It read. "Sure D" I typed just before a notification jumped out of nowhere "Nathan: Hey,.... <1>" It read.

Then I looked at him before a bit but he was just laying back, watching the girls scramble to see the movie to watch first. But no response. I finished texting Dad before seeing Nathan's message.

"Hey, can I talk to you? Not person to person, but through texts." It read. Then my heart pounded quickly. I was confused on what the text was about but I was down. "Sure. What is it?" I replied.

Then background music started to play. I put my phone down and looked at the screen, they finally decided what to watch. I was sitting beside Hannah, who was licking her fingers clean from what seems to be sour cream powder with her eyes locked at the screen.

"Nathan, can you get the drinks for me please? Have Kian help you as well." Cathryn said that I overheard. "Please Kian..." She added looking at me all of a sudden with puppy eyes. " Yeah, sure." I said that coincidentally went exactly with the exact same words as Nathan's. I got up putting my phone down, cheeks red.

I went over to the other side of the house which was a large modern kitchen. I was amazed on how it looked, it was almost all marble. Except for the cupboards. Which was of oak. Thinking all of these made me freeze in the doorway, same with Nathan.

"Kian! The lights too, Haha!" Cathryn shouted that broke our thoughts. I then proceeded to start making my way to right side of the table which was where the lights are. But before I could even make a step, he walked a step in front of me but stopped right after. "Oh, you go first." I said looking down and showed his path with my hand, which was to the left.

"No, haha, go first." He said holding my shoulder and showing me my way, which was to the right.

"Oh, thanks." I said that made my heart pound more and more faster with my cheeks turning red but I just looked down more so that he wouldn't see it.

I flicked the lights off which had label beside saying "living room" and went to get the drinks. I took the first out of the five bottles and he took the second and the third. I took the fourth and readjusted the grip that I had for me to get the fifth. But then, he decided to reach out for the fifth and he ended up holding my hand. I immediately let go of the bottle with a shriek.

"Y-You can t-take i-it." I said out of fear.

"Oh... okay." He said. We went out of the room awkwardly. We went out the kitchen with a handful and went in the living room with girls who were intensely crying, hugging the pillows as if their life depended on it. Then, Cathryn saw us both, standing in shock.

"GIRLS!!! LET'S DRINK! HUHU!" She shouted that made a stampede of sobbing girls.

"What did we miss?" He said while they took the drinks straight from our hands.
