1 Prologue

It's pitch dark, almost impossible to make anything out. It feels as if I'm floating with no control over my body. It's that dream again, isn't it?

A sole beam of light protrudes from the ceiling, almost as if God himself was shining a flashlight down onto the ground. Underneath the beam of light stood a man, a slender man with skin that was ghostly pale, almost as if it were snow. At least, I assume that it's a man because his hair was an unnatural color, almost as white as his skin, and his eyes were as black as the night's sky. I can't talk to this man when I'm in this dream. I am nothing but a mere spectator of the events that are to come.

The man's breathing is erratic and shaky, his body trembling with every exhale and inhale like a mad man whose last screw was turned loose. "Finally... I've finally done it..." he whispered to himself, gazing up at the source of the light with hopeful eyes.

Hopeful...? Sure, I'll go with that for today.

He stood on top of a mountain of corpses, all of which belonged to similar white haired and pale skinned beings. Weapons made of what appears to be bone were scattered amongst the bodies, the man on top of the mountain clutching his blade tightly with his right hand. From the sky, a golden orb appears from where the beam of light is coming from, a wisp like orb that sways side to side as it falls down like a cherry blossom. It was as if both the man and the orb were contained in a cylinder of light, anywhere outside of that cylinder being enveloped by blinding darkness. The orb fall ever so slowly before finally stopping right in front of the man with what is now impatience on his face. It stays afloat right in front of his chest, the orb glowing the same golden glow as the light that it came from.

Without a word being spoken between the two, the pale man nods, almost as if he's agreed to something that the orb said, and raises his blade towards his chest, right where his heart is. He's calm, his body still as he takes in a deep breath. He inhales slowly through his nose, preparing himself for what he is about to do. Once exhaling, he tightens his grip the blade and plunges it deep into his heart, the end of the white blade covered in an mud-like substance that's starting to spill from his mouth. He falls to his knees as the orb glows brighter, the cylinder they're contained in starting extending. He pulls the blade out in one swift movement, more of the mud-like substance spewing out of his wound as it starts to flow down his body. Almost as bright as the sun, the orb floats towards the wound on his chest, forcing itself inside the area where his heart resides. You wouldn't be able to tell just by looking, but somehow, I know that there wasn't anything there to begin with.

The wound on his chest closes itself, and suddenly, the man rises up from the ground, light forcing it's way out of every possible opening on his body. He's screaming in agony, writhing his body side to side as the light in him envelops his entire body. Every inch of his skin is now glowing, and as he slowly ascends up towards the source of the light, it's as if his body went limp.

And then... he disappears.

It goes back to being dark, like if nothing had ever happened. Before today's dream, every night before it was a dream of war. Thousands and thousands of things like that pale man fought each other, an all-out free for all that I can never tell who's going to come out on top. Last year, I placed my bets on this one large looking man with a scar on his eye, but at the last second, his throat got slit by a small scrawny goblin looking man who was hiding in the dead bodies. And like the man of today's dream, the same thing had happened to the small goblin looking man. He disappeared into the light as well...

I always wonder where they go once the light takes them away. It's a peaceful ending after all the death and bloodshed that occurred before it, but it's not a satisfying one. I mean, once I wake up, I have about a million questions on what happened afterwards, and yet I'm never given any answers. It's like the sole purpose of these dreams are to pique my interest and cut me off once their mission has been completed.

But oh well. At the end of the day, there really isn't any deeper meaning to them. They're just dreams, after all. Yes... that's all they are...

Just dreams.
