1 "Lucky Day"

ALEXANDRA KAI MADDEN

"Miss Kai, please take a seat." He said as I entered his office. As I sat down he opened an envelope with my name on it. It was my MRI scan results. He started to look at it carefully and as he looked at it more closely, I can see sadness slowly crawling through his eyes.

"I don't know how to say this to you without shocking you but—"

"Ah, Dr. Choi. You know I'm a strong lady, Right? Haha please get straight to the point." I cut him off. Does he always talk like this to his patients?

He started putting my MRI Results on his board. "Kai, you have angiosarcomas, a malignant primary cardiac tumor located on your right atrium." I tilted my head and looked at my scan. I see it.

"Angios—what??" I asked him in a joking manner. He didn't laugh. He stared back at me with such a sad gaze.

"My dear, this is a serious thing! This isn't something you should joke about. You have canc—" I chuckled.

"A malignant primary cardiac tumor, huh? Dr. Choi, how long do you think I have left?" I smiled at him. He looked away from me and towards his office window.

"Oh, come on! Stop looking like that! I'm the one that is sick, not you." Again, I chuckled.

"6 months." He simply said without turning to face me.

"Huh?" I asked.

"You have 6 months but we can save you if you decide to get treated." Now, he's facing me. A face full of anticipation. He wants me to say yes.

"Please, Mikailla."

"Dr. Choi, may I ask you one thing?" He gave me a nod.

"What are the odds of me surviving the surgery?" He froze.

"As of what I am seeing the tumor is in a fatal position." Again, he looked away.

"Ten percent. But we can always do chemo—"

"I don't want to." I chuckled. "If it's that low then I don't want to. I'd rather spend my money on my own and my loved one's happiness." I smiled as I told him that. He let out a sigh.

"If you ever change your mind, I will always be here." He said with a forced smile on his face. As I stood up I suddenly remembered something.

"Ah, Mr. Choi! Please submit your work on time. Today is your deadline for the next chapter." His eyes widened and he let out a nervous laugh.

"Ah, alright! Alright! I'll email it later to you." After that we waved each other goodbye.

Ambulance Sirens rang all over the place as the nurses and paramedics rushed patients to the emergency room. "This just in, a thirty-four years old man armed with a knife went berserk in a convenience store and stabbed five people. When the police had arrived he then attempted to take his own life by cutting his throat." The news from the television caused people in the hospital lobby to murmur with each other. "Ah, what a terrible guy." Said an old lady. I continued to walk towards the emergency room.

"Six months, huh?" I mumbled to myself as I was on my way out of the hospital. As I was walking, I can't get the thought of being informed I would die in six months out of my head. I let out a deep sigh. "What the hell do I do now?" I mumbled to myself. I continued to walk towards along the hospital lobby, not paying attention to anything around me suddenly I bumped to someone.

"Ah—" I felt myself about to fall to the ground but thankfully he grabbed both my arms to prevent me from falling. I then looked up to see who this guy is and—

Why is he so— "I know I'm handsome but please pay attention to where you are going." He said reluctantly. "Wait—what?!" He didn't answer my question. Instead, he chuckled and walked towards the emergency room..

"What a weird guy." I said to myself as I continued to walk.

When I reached the emergency room, I saw that that guy isn't on the bed yet. "What's taking him so long?" I mumbled to myself as I looked at my wristwatch. "Five… Four…" I heard another ambulance arrive. "Three… Two…" Two paramedics arrived in the emergency room pushing a stretcher with a patient on it. One of the paramedics are applying pressure on the patient's neck to prevent further blood loss. "One." My lips curved up to a smirk. "There you are." I whispered.

"John Ocampo, thirty-four years old. Attempted suicide by cutting his throat." Said the paramedic who's in charge of stopping the blood flow on the guy's neck. "You can leave now I'll take care of him." I told him. "But his wound, sir—" He replied. "He won't die." I simply said.

"Don't let anyone past these curtains except the police officers." I told the nurse and she gave me a nod then closed the curtains around me and the patient.

"Took you long enough." I whispered to the guy's ears. "Wake up." I commanded him. He opened his eyes in shock. I bet he could feel the excruciating pain of his wound right now. "You know, I really don't like waiting. Especially when it comes to people like you." I said reluctantly. "So, you want to die after almost killing those people?" I asked him. He's too weak and in too much pain to even speak a word. "Are you in pain? Pffft—how foolish." I looked at his wound and touched it with my bare hands. He opened his mouth to scream but no sound would come out of it. I let out a slight laugh. His wound started to close as I continued to caress his wound with my burning touch. He growled in agony as I could imagine it would feel as if I am burning his open wound. "How pitiful. You think you could escape being punished your whole life?" I heard some footsteps coming near our curtains.

"You know, there's something scarier than death." I smirked. "It's life itself." I said as the Police Officers entered the curtains. I walked out of the curtains. "I'll be leaving him to you, chief." I said with a smile to the Police Officers.

As I was walking out of the emergency room, I heard him let out a blood curdling scream. The paramedics and nurses tried to calm him down. They might have even Sedated him. "Ah, I hate this." I said as I removed my Doctor's coat and dumped it in the trash beside me.

"Ah! Why isn't he answering?!" I scowled. I'm on my way towards my favorite café and I'm calling my Boyfriend at the moment.

"Ah, I would've really loved it if he'd join me right now." I gritted my teeth while I looked at my phone. I pulled the café door open to go in.

"Welcome, how may I help you?" The café attendant greeted me with a smile.

"I'll have one Iced Americano and one of your Strawberry cakes please." I Smiled.

"That would be ten dollars, ma'am." I handed him my card and after scanning it he returned it to me. I looked around to see if my favorite spot to do my work is free and to my luck, it is. I walked all the way to the back corner of the café and sat there. I was about to get my laptop out of my bag when I felt my phone buzz. When I checked who's calling, it was my boss.

"Hi, Mr. Cruz how may I—"

"Didn't you say you were going to meet Lacuna today to get his input for the next chapter?! Now where is it! It's his deadline!" Before I could even finish my greetings, he started yelling at me. I took a deep breath before answering.

"Yes, Mr. Cruz. He already sent me the email for his input and I'm currently editing it right now." I said with the softest voice I could manage.

"That's good." He said in a monotonous voice and hang up.

"Here's your order, Miss." The café attendant said as he gently placed my orders on my table. I thanked him and gave him a warm smile.

"Argh, why is my boss always like that?" I mumbled as I took out my laptop and turned it on.

Some hours went by and I finally finished editing some of the inputs the authors I'm working with has sent me. I sent them all to my boss for further inspection and luckily, I didn't hear any snarly feedback form him. I fixed up my things, got up, and left the café.

As I walked out of the café, I saw my boyfriend standing at the nearby park across the street. I was about to cross the streets to join him but a lady came from behind her and covered his eyes. I immediately froze. I saw her smile as he held the lady's hands as he said her name. The lady giggled as she removed her hands from his eyes.

"What's this?" I asked myself as I continued to stand there and watch them. They seem so happy. He held her hands and said some words. The lady then nodded and smiled. They seem to have agreed on something. He pulled out his phone and next thing I know, I felt my phone buzz. He's calling me.

"Hello, sweetie?" I greeted him with a soft voice as I looked at him from where I am standing. He looked at the lady and smiled to her then said, "Kai, Let's break up." He said those words like their full of sadness but his face says otherwise. He's smiling and he even reached out to hold the girl's hand.

"W-wait? What?! Why are you breaking up with me Jean?" I asked him trying to swallow my tears. People beside me are starting to look at me. "It isn't because of you, Kai. It's because of me. I'm so sorry." He said. "Bullshit Jean! How can you break up with me like this?!" My words went unheard for he already lowered the phone totally forgetting to hang up.

"There, were over. Now, can you date me?" My world stopped when I heard his words. I stood there in total shock. "Pffft—You really would do anything for me, huh?" Said the girl and Jean replied with a nod. "Sure, I'll date you." She said with a smile. After hearing that I hung up. I saw them kissing each other before I turned around and never looked back. "Don't cry, Kai. He doesn't deserve your tears." I mumbled to myself before heading home.

On my way home, I decided to buy some beers and fried chicken from the best rated shop in my area. As I walked out of the store, I felt my phone buzz again, I checked to see who's calling and it was my little sister. I answered it immediately.

"What do you want?" I asked her reluctantly.

"Sis, can you send me a hundred dollars? I accidentally destroyed one of my classmate's laptop and I need to pay her compensation." She said in a cute voice. I sighed.

"I don't want to. You'll only use it on computer cafés anyways." After I said that she let out a frustrated scowl then hang up. I sighed. "Kids these days." I said as I continued to walk home.

When I'm just four blocks away from my house, rain started pouring heavily. "I'm almost home and you have to make it rain?!" I let out a frustrated growl as I started to run towards my house.

I immediately grabbed went into my bathroom to take a shower after setting my things on my couch. "Ah, What a day." I said to myself as I felt the warm water on my skin. "What a Lucky day." I mumbled.
