1 Chapter 1: From Zero to Overpowered Hero

<Heroes aren't born, they're made.>

A quote Kyle remembered from the moment it all started.

That made him wonder.

How do you make it?

What is the formula that makes a hero?

Is it a proper upbringing?

A superpower to take responsibility for?

The right circumstances?

No…

What makes a hero-

"Motherfu-" Kyle closed his eyes as he felt his body moving out of his control.

-Is the right system.

<Detected the host's intentions of non-compliance with the Hero-System…>

<Activating Superpower, [Heroism]... >

[Heroism - Controls the body to act according to the system's objective, ignoring the body's limiter and self-preservation instincts to complete it.]

"No, no, wait, wait! That's a fire right there! it's a burning building you stupid AI!!!"

It is the system that would throw its host into a burning building to save those trapped inside.

"No, wait, why are you jumping out of the ship?! I can't swim dumbass-!"

A system that would make its host jump over a cruise ship to save drowning Youtubers.

"That's a tiger! A tiger! Are you blind?! Why?!?!"

A system that would pit its host against a fully grown tiger to save strangers.

"God, here we go again.'

And, a system that would risk its host life just to save a main-character-looking kid from getting hit by a truck.

"Woah! T-Thanks! Wait, are you okay?! Your head's bleeding!"

"Woah, that kid threw himself to save that other kid from getting isekaid. What a chad."

"Looks like Heroic Citizen strikes again! Way to fo kid!"

With his head spurting blood like a fountain, Kyle Noble, 16 years old, a supposed 'reincarnator' according to his system, stared at the sky with sunken eyes.

"What did I do to deserve this?" He questioned in an aggrieved tone.

As if it heard his question, the system flickered to life, blocking his vision.

[Name]: Kyle Noble

The [Hero-System].

An absurd system that suddenly appeared on his 4th birthday. As if it was a gift given by God, it congratulated him on reaching four-years-old without dying a karmic death.

Kyle could remember that moment as if it was yesterday.

"Kyle! I'm sorry! I'll bring more money next time, so please let me go today okay?"

A small boy kneeled in front of an angelic-looking blonde kid. Two kids stood behind the blonde like bodyguards.

"Fine, it's my birthday today so I'll spare you for now," Kyle said with an insidious smile, unbefitting of his angelic appearance. He pointed his chin, "Go. Get out of my face."

The small boy's face brightened. He was about to get up and run outside the room when Kyle smiled maliciously. "I can't say the same for my friends though."

Without a word, the two kids standing behind Kyle moved. They pressed the boy's shoulders and forced him to the ground. Then, they grabbed his arms and held him in place.

"W-Wait! Kyle! Please, I took all of that money from my mother's purse! If I take more, she'll find out and kill me!" He begged, tears streaming down his eyes.

"Hehe..." Kyle grinned maliciously. He approached the boy with slow steps to build pressure and pressed his index finger over his forehead.

"You're more afraid of your mother instead of me? Didn't you hear what I said earlier? It's my birthday." He twisted his finger like a drill, making the little boy cry harder. "Where's my present?"

"P-Present? What I, you-you can have my sister! She's very beautiful-!"

Before the little boy could finish his words, Kyle smacked him with the back of his hand.

Smack!

"Do I look like I'm interested in your ugly sister? I want your lunch money! Money! Do you hear me?!" Kyle yelled in the boy's ear.

If another person were to see this scene, instead of wondering why Kyle was acting like a mobster, they would first wonder, why is a four-year-old kid bullying an ten-year-old?

Despite looking like a little kid with his tiny body and chubby face, Kyle was nothing like one.

From a young age, he boasts an incredible amount of intelligence and wisdom among his peers. Kyle, with his unique perspective for a toddler, utilized his gifts as a weapon to dominate his circle of friends.

At the young age of four, Kyle had already collected five thousand dollars from kids above his age and created his very own gang of troublemakers, stealing from pedestrians and begging on the streets.

Born as an orphan, Kyle, with his exceptional wisdom, understood the workings of society and made a plan on how to live his life by the time he is an adult.

'I will reign over this world using the power of money, authority, and strength and reach the pinnacle of life!'

Although his thoughts were a little overbearing for a four-year-old, considering his past life, it was understandable.

<For violating the laws of nature, overturning the karmic balance, and desecrating the heavens in your previous life as a [Cultivator], Kyle Noble, you are hereby sentenced to life in repentance.>

Kyle couldn't understand the words that abruptly appeared in his retina. As a four-year-old child dreaming of world domination, this strange supernatural phenomenon spooked him.

"Huh?! Who, what?! What are you?!"

His toddler brain could not understand the complicated words written, but he knew it was a bad thing seeing the red light flashing in his eyes.

<For killing billions of life forms and sacrificing their lives to reincarnate yourself in another world, destroying your previous world in the process, the remnant powers of your old world had bargained for your punishment.>

<Kyle Noble, though you are innocent, your soul is not. For your punishment, you shall repent by being bound with the [Hero-System].>

<Save the same amount of lives you have taken in your previous life and achieve Karmic balance. Only then shall you be forgiven.>

<We will be watching.>

And with that, the four-year-old Kyle Noble who was destined to become the vilest power-hungry politician in the world, became a Hero.

*

Since the day he was bound to the Hero-System, Kyle's personality did a 180° and was forced to commit good deeds regardless of his will.

Like helping an old lady cross the street, find a missing child's mother, and do other unnecessary heroic things even a normal ordinary adult could do; picking up after themselves.

Oh, and he was also banned from cursing.

Heroes don't curse, according to the Hero-System.

'That's only on the outside though, bitch.' Kyle thought sinisterly with a bright smile on his face.

Walking down the streets of Manhattan in the early morning, Kyle looked at the Stark Tower with envy before waving to the pedestrians waving at him.

'If it wasn't for this damned system, I could've owned a tower like that by now.' Kyle still couldn't sleep over the fact that he had to donate his money to the poor.

He understood that he had to save people to equal out his karmic balance but, does he really have to give away his hard-earned money? Although he stopped being a young mobster, Kyle still earned money from the donations given to him by the people he saved.

'Piece of shit system. I'm better off curing cancer than throwing my body left and right to catch fucking bullets.'

With how many lives he had to save, Kyle was sure that he would die one way or another before he could successfully clear all of his karmic debts.

'I did it in my previous life too, why do you have to pin the blame on me when I didn't do shit?'

The world was truly unfair. Shaking his head, Kyle pursed his lips and looked around.

He observed pedestrians walking down the streets and others on the sidewalk before clicking his tongue. 'Tut-tut-tut, looks like no idiots today.'

The busy streets were his favorite place. Whether it's the morning, afternoon, or midnight, someone out there is always in danger, and their favorite place to die is the open road.

A suicide jumper here, a hit-and-run there, Kyle always waited for them a few steps away, like a guardian angel protecting them from their inevitable demise.

'Come on, just one more. Just one more and I'm out of this hell!' He thought, gritting his teeth.

He really couldn't take it anymore. He's been to the hospital more times than he could count. Every bone in his body was already broken before he even reached his teens.

No matter how many psychiatrists and doctors warned him of the dangers of risking his life for others, how was he supposed to follow their advice when his body wouldn't even follow his?

He could barely even run properly with how fucked up his leg had been from last month's road roller incident.

He was done training like a maniac, only for some thug to shank him with a kitchen knife in the gut.

Tired of lifting weights day and night, only for a fucking road roller to crush his leg because of some TikToker who thinks dancing in front of a moving road roller is entertaining.

'After this, no more Heroic Citizen bullshit.' Kyle thought grimly as he bit his lips.

He was already fed up with his goody-two-shoes act.

He feared that if he kept acting for long, he would forget it was an act and become a real self-sacrificing idiot.

While waiting, Kyle looked at his system.

[Name]: Kyle Noble

[Hero Name]: Heroic Citizen

[Disposition]: Indefinite Hero

[Superpower]: Heroism

[Hero Stars]: -4598214725....

[Functions]: Hero Travel, Hero Shop

[Hero Points]: 99

'Damn, is that four billion, or there are more?' Kyle felt like there were dots at the end of the [Hero Stars] section for a reason.

'Anyway, that doesn't matter.' Kyle looked at his [Hero Points] and mentally opened the [Hero Shop], 'Whether it's zillions or dogellions, once I buy this, saving people will be a piece of cake.'

[Hero Shop]: Items

Secretive Glasses - [Sold]

Body Builder Set - [Sold]

NPC Clothes - 1 HP

Superhero Wolrd Travel Ticket - 100 HP [Limited]

One [Hero Points] equates to one life saved. After buying the [Secretive Glasses] to stay low-key and the [Body Builder Set] to avoid getting bullied, Kyle set his eyes on the [Superhero World Travel Ticket].

In order to travel to another world the [Hero Travel] function could be used to switch from one world to another using a hefty amount of [Hero Points].

Since Kyle hasn't traveled to another world yet, the [Hero Travel] function is essentially useless.

'That only leaves the ticket. If it's random, then I'm fucked for life, but if it allows me to pick a Superhero world to go to...' an evil grin spread across Kyle's face.

He has been studying Heroic materials all his life, trying to find ways to cheat his system. He even tested trying to kill someone and save them to see if his [Hero Stars] would lessen, but none of it worked.

Now, all he could do is pray that the [Superhero World travel Ticket] allows him to travel to a world where superpowers were given like candies.

As Kyle was thinking about his bleak future, a cute little girl suddenly tripped over her own foot while eating ice cream in front of him.

Reflexively, Kyle reached forward and stopped her from falling over.

And then-

<Ding! For saving a life, you have gained [1] Hero Star and [1] Hero Point!>

"Uwah! That was close! Phew, thank you mister!" The girl held on to his forearm and smiled at him.

Kyle looked at her blankly before replying, "No, thank you, missy." He then switched to a practiced smile and waved her off. "Be careful and watch where you walk next time, okay?"

"Okay!" The girl waved him goodbye and walked away.

"..."

Kyle looked at her back before tilting his head, confused. 'What was that? I saved her just like that?'

He looked above him to see if some flower vase would fall over, and the ground to see if it would collapse, but found nothing out of the ordinary.

'If it isn't a natural hazard... then?' Kyle turned his head to the side and saw a suspicious man wearing a black hoodie, staring at the little girl walking away and him with a wary gaze.

"..." Kyle gave the man a thin smile before walking over. "Hey, can I talk to you for a sec? My hand has something to say to you."

The two then indulged in a conversation befitting of a civilized race.

"Is that a kitchen knife? You filthy scum, are you related to that thug that stabbed me?"

"N-No, ugh.. Please, I don't know.. What you're talking about…"

"Shut up."

Needless to say, Kyle beat the shit out of him in the back alley and ended his bloodline ruthlessly, former evil-cultivator style.

*

Back at the orphanage, Kyle sat on his bed with a huge bag, staring at the [Superhero World Travel Ticket] he just bought.

<Would you like to use [Superhero World Travel Ticket x1] ?>

Kyle thought for a moment, all those years of suffering, receiving warm smiles from strangers he was forced to help, and the day his plans were thwarted by some 4th-dimensional being that bound him to this [Hero-System] bullshit.

"Is that even a question? Fudge yes!" Kyle yelled, ignoring the way his words changed the moment they left his mouth.

<Activating [Superhero World Travel Ticket x1]...>

<3...>

<2...>

<1...>

The moment the countdown finished, Kyle felt his sense of gravity shift, and when he opened his eyes, he was falling from the sky.

'...'

Kyle didn't understand what was happening for a moment before reality dawned on him in the form of an almost solidified air slamming against his face.

"....Aaaaaahhh-!!!"

The wind force tore the straps of his bag, sending it flying away along with his survival pack and weapons. Kyle could only stare at it with an open mouth before proceeding to puke uncontrollably from his mouth.

'Fuck, I can't believe I'm gonna die like this...' With tears in his eyes, Kyle forced his eyes to open amidst the wind pressure. His eyes widened when he spotted something below him, flying up in the air as well.

'What the...?' Before he could understand what it was, his body froze, before the familiar sound of a bell filled his ears. 'Oh, no.'

<Detected that the host is incapable of saving a life...>

"Wait! Urgh! I'm gonna fall to my death you mustard-!" Against Kyle's wishes, his body moved without his permission, performing a perfect somersault in the air and diving for the body below.

'Motherfucker!' Kyle gritted his teeth and braced himself, already used to the sudden possession, and decided to let the system control his body.

<Activating Superpower, [Heroism]... >

A feeling of lightness passed through his body, as if an invisible shackle was removed, the limiter on Kyle's body was released and his body moved nimbly in the air.

A destroyed city with a huge building collapsed on the road appeared in his vision. Flailing his arms in the air, as if trying to reach Kyle, the man falling from the sky met his eyes.

Kyle could now see him clearly. It was a man with a mega-sized blue head wearing black spandex.

'What? Alien?' Kyle thought as his body moved to embrace the blue-skinned man.

"What are you doing! Unhand me you fool!" He yelled with a strange sunset.

'Oh, God.' Kyle internally face palmed as he prepared for another one of the system's cringe automated lines.

"..."

With the setting sun as the backdrop, 'Kyle' looked at Megamind, his emotionless face forming into a deep empathetic smile, like a mother consoling his son.

"Congratulations, you are being rescued." A profound voice, specifically created to comfort its listeners flowed out of 'Kyle's mouth. "Please do not resist."

Megamind stared at 'Kyle' weirdly before shooting him in the face with the De-Gun, turning him into an ice cube. "What is up with charismatic kids these days..."

He shook his big head before he threw his Power-Extractor into the air and shot himself in the head with the De-Gun, turning himself into an ice cube as well.

*

Below the ground, a flying curly-haired muscular man in tights flew towards a fleeing woman.

Threateningly.

"Say bye, bye Roxie." Tighten said, growling as his pupils burned red.

As he approached Roxie that took refuge on a fountain pillar, in front of Tighten, a gun suddenly fell.

As he looked at it in confusion, two ice cubes fell into the water, which instantly transformed into Megamind with his arms opened wide, receiving the Power-Extractor falling from the air, and 'Kyle' in a heroic pose.

"Ollo." Megamind grinned, as he stabbed Tighten with the Power-Extractor in the mouth, absorbing Metro Man's DNA and powers in the form of yellow burning flames.

Tighten nasally screamed as he began deflating, from a muscular chad-bod to a skinny simp-bod, his base form.

Megamind didn't forget to deliver his lines as the hero, "Thing about bad guys, they always LOOSE!" He pointed to Tighten's face.

"Ohhh." Tighten moaned in pain.

"We did it, you won," Roxie said, smiling at Megamind.

"Well, I finally had a reason to win." Megamind smiled back while staring at her eyes. "You."

Roxie smiled and hugged Megamind, ignoring the crowd gathering around them, only for a sudden cough to interrupt them.

"Cough..."

Megamind looked on the ground and saw the alien fish of a friend Minion, who was laying on the ground with a broken tank. "Minion!" He immediately lets go of the Power-Extractor and runs to his best friend.

"Can't see it's cold and... warm, and dark and light..." Minion gasped, flapping his fins from his robot body.

"It's me, Minion," said Megamind. "I'm right here."

"We've had a lot of adventures together, you and I." Minion gasped.

"We have, Minion."

"Cough, I mean..." Minion sniffed. "Most of them ended in horrible failure, but we won today. Didn't we, sir?"

"Yes Minion, we did it," Megamind said. "Thanks to you."

"So we're the good guys now?" Minion bitterly smiled.

"I guess we are." Megamind also smiled.

"Oh, oh. I'm going... I think this..." Minion choked and coughed before he closed his eyes and turned his head.

Megamind looked at this scene, unimpressed, before grabbing Minion's body and tossing it into the fountain. "Oh, what a drama queen."

Minion resurfaced from the water with a happy smile on his face. "You know, I'm feeling much better now. I guess I just needed to swim!"

As they celebrated their victory over their created enemy, Tighten, a being of unfathomable power, given strength from the DNA of Metro Man, a God in human form, a being capable of lifting buildings like a baseball bat, fly through the air at breakneck speed, nigh-invulnerability, heat vision and x-ray vision that can penetrate through anything, and the ability to move faster than time itself. (Exaggeration)

And-

It is now in the hands of the wrong person-

No, the right SUPER Hero!

"Hey, Hero!" Kyle shouted with a shit-eating grin, holding both Megamind's DE-Gun and Power-Extractor that holds Metro Man's DNA.

<Activating [Hero Travel]...>

"Huh?" Megamind turned around, and his pupils widened when he saw what was in Kyle's hands. "Hey! Put that down now! You have no idea what you are holding!"

instead of answering, Kyle's shit-eating grin turned into an amicable one.

<3...>

"My name's Kyle! What's yours!?" He asked.

Megamind hesitated for a moment before shouting back. "It's Megamind!"

<2...>

Kyle's shit-eating grin returned in full force. 'Fuck you Megamind!' He wanted to yell. But...

"Thank you, Megamind!" The system filtered his words for him.

<1...>

Seeing the timer, Kyle decided to stop messing with Megamind and waved his hand.

"I know we've just met but I owe you my life!" As his body became stardust, Kyle yelled with all his heart. "I'll name you after my hero name! Thanks a bunch, dude!"

With the feeling of his body shifting gravity, the world turned over and Kyle found himself back in the orphanage's bunk bed, with a missing bag and a pair of deadly weapons.

One which contained the essence of a God.

Kyle stared at it for a moment, admiring its unique design, before proceeding to aim the muzzle at his mouth.

Kyle stared at the ceiling with a lost gaze, before pulling the trigger.

Phew-!

A yellow glowing projectile struck Kyle's mouth, and he blacked out.

Whoosh-!

A few seconds later, Kyle's body burned like the sun, his slim figure buffed up, and his shirt and pants were torn as he grew a few centimeters. His blonde hair became vibrant, akin to Rapunzel's hair, it flowed in the air, defying gravity and his face turned from an ambiguous guy who looks like a girl to the sharp features of a battle-hardened cultivator.

Not long after, when Kyle opened his eyes...

"..."

His ice-blue pupils turned golden for a moment before returning to their original color.

Red flashes of light filled his retina.

Looking at the long system notifications, Kyle smiled condescendingly.

"You could've just shortened it with 'Overpowered' from the start."
