Chapter 1

Somewhere in the streets of Shanghai, the lifeless body of a man who appeared to be around 18 years of age could be seen. All around him stood people who were screaming and yelling, trying to treat his wounds. However, he knew that it was all pointless. He knew that he would soon die. Lying in a pool of his own blood, he thought about the events that led up to his fate.

This man was named Xu Lin. Fresh out of high school, he was originally working at a nearby company in order to make ends meet for both him and his little sister, who was still in middle school. Both of his parents passed away in a car accident a few years ago, leaving both of their children to fend for themselves.

Today was a normal day like any other. Or it was supposed to be. After taking the usual bus route to his company, he stepped out and walked towards the building's entrance.

However, just after he arrived, the distinct sounds of gunshots suddenly rang out behind him. Turning around, he spotted a crazed man waving around a pistol while screaming incoherently. Without him even being conscious of it, his body moved on its own and rushed towards the gunman. Noticing Xu Lin's actions, the gunman aimed his pistol at him and pulled the trigger.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Three shots echoed out and hit Xu Lin square in the chest. His originally white shirt was stained crimson red due to the blood flowing out of his wounds. However, despite the extreme pain which felt like searing knives stabbing into his body, Xu Lin continued to move forward.

At this point, Xu Lin was only a few steps away from the insane man. He lunged towards the gunman and caught his arm with his right hand, while simultaneously using his left hand to grab hold of the pistol. The man desperately tried to push Xu Lin away with his free hand, but he could not overpower Xu Lin's firm grip. Xu Lin followed up with a kick to the man's torso, loosening his hold over the gun. With one last yank, Xu Lin successfully wrenched the gun away from the him.

Howling madly, the man cast a look of hatred toward Xu Lin. From his pockets, he pulled out a switchblade knife and ran toward Xu Lin. By this point, the adrenaline had long left his body, and all that was left was fatigue and exhaustion. It was impossible for him to even lift his arms, much less to aim and shoot at a moving target. Silently accepting his fate, Xu Lin stood there idly as he waited for the inevitable.

However, it was here when a police car appeared and screeched to a stop. A policeman jumped out with his pistol at the ready and shot the charging man in the forehead, successfully killing him.

Crumpling to the ground, Xu Lin smiled to himself. A sudden feeling of coldness and numbness spread throughout his body. His vision started getting blurry while he felt his consciousness gradually fading away.

"Well sh*t. So this is the end I guess. At least my death wasn't pointless. I hope Xiao Yue (his little sister) finds the bank notes in my drawer. That should last her for some time."

As he lay on his back, he gazed at the clear, blue sky for one last time before closing his eyes. The shouting and screaming around him became muffled, and the pain in his chest which was once excruciating slowly faded away.

And soon, he gradually fell asleep.

***************************************

After what seemed like an eternity, a soul finally awoke from its slumber. Opening his eyes, he immediately shut them again after being blinded by the pure white walls of the room.

This soul was Xu Lin.

'Wtf ... Where the hell am I? Didn't I die from that bastard? Was I somehow healed?'

However, as Xu Lin's eyes adjusted to the light, he noticed a figure standing in front of him. Scrutinizing closely, it appeared to be an old man who looked to be around 60 years of age with graying hair. His body was slightly hunched over as he supported himself with a wooden cane. Although this old man appeared frail and weak, he emitted an oppressive aura, as if he looked down upon everything.

"Um... Excuse me, who are you? Why the hell am I here!?"

After hearing no response from the elderly man, Xu Lin got up and walked towards him in order to get his attention. However, after a few steps, the old man suddenly turned around and fixed his gaze on Xu Lin, who immediately shuddered and felt a cold chill running down his back. Somehow, he knew that this old man who looked like a grandpa could easily end his life with a flick of his finger.

"You are dead. The place where you currently are is my soul space, where all souls go to after they have died."

"Oh... I see. And you are?"

"Based on the standards of your world, I could be viewed as a god. Souls who have died would usually just be reincarnated into a random world without any memories. However, because of your astronomically high karma, you will be given two chances to spin the wheel the destiny."

Xu Lin grew confused.

"Karma? Wheel of Destiny? What does that have to do with anything?"

"Your karma is determined by your actions in your past life. Good deeds raise your karma, while bad deeds lower it. Souls with good karma are given a chance to obtain extra benefits in their next life through the wheel of destiny. This wheel contains many things, such as powers, abilities, items, bloodlines, etc. You can also be reborn into different worlds. The possibilities are infinite.

The reason for your high karma is because that person whom you stopped was actually a suicide bomber who was planning to detonate a bomb inside the building, which would have caused the deaths of hundreds. However, because of your actions, his plan was foiled and everyone in the building was saved."

"What a surprise...there actually are other worlds out there. So how do I spin this wheel of destiny?"

Just as he said this, an enormous wheel emitting a blinding radiance appeared in the air. Staring at the rewards, Xu Lin's heart shook.

"Oh my god! What's with all of these prizes! Angel's bloodline, Xuanyuan sword, Ancient Race, Heaven Defying Cultivation Technique, and that's just the first few ones on there!"

In his life, Xu Lin was an avid reader of cultivation novels and light novels. Although he was by no means an otaku, he still followed a few anime shows as well. One glance at these rewards and he could already tell their immense value.

"Don't get your hopes up. All of those are legendary rewards that are virtually impossible to obtain. Out of all the 1,000,000 eons that I have presided over this place, no one, and I really mean no one, has ever received a reward of that rarity before. In fact, almost everyone gets a common prize, with uncommon being the best anyone has received so far."

As the old man gestured to the list of common prizes, Xu Lin read them and nearly screamed out in anger.

'WTF! A shovel? A plain sword? Bottled water? What's with these worthless rewards! This is a complete scam! This old fart should be arrested for fraud!'

"Your total karma will allow you to spin the wheel three times. I will answer one question before I leave though."

"Um.. Do you know how my sister is doing?"

"She is currently doing well. After your death, she became more motivated in her studies and successfully graduated from university."

"Phew, I'm glad. So how can I spin the wheel?"

"You just have to press the 'SPIN' button right here. After your three spins, you will immediately reincarnate with your rewards. Anyways, I'll be taking my leave right now. Good luck."

The self proclaimed god suddenly vanished from Xu Lin's sight. Taking a deep breath, Xu Lin placed his hand on the 'SPIN' button and pressed it.
