39 CHAPTER 39

OPHELIA'S POV

The alarm blared in my ears as my will to snooze it again strengthened even more. Luna's shrill voice was the only thing that could wake me u-

"Wake up, Lia! You'll be late for school if you don't."

And, it did.

I rubbed my eyes as I got up and removed the blanket off of me. I stopped the alarm that kept ringing beside me. Something caught my eyes as got up. It was an orange sticky note that lied on my bedside table.

"Good Morning, Idiot. Yea, I know. Wipe that silly smile off your face. Get ready for school, I'm picking you up today. I left from the front door and thank the lord, I didn't run into anyone.

P.S. I'm so sorry, once again, Spitfire."

Spitfire?

Seriously!

I got into the shower and started scrubbing my face. But, no matter how hard, I scrubbed, I couldn't remove that silly grin on my face.

"Took you long enough." Ahh, 'snappy Luna' mode was on right now.

"Good morning to you too, Luna. Yes, I slept well. Thank you. Hope you did too."

Just as I thought that she couldn't act any more immature, she proceeded to stick her tongue out to me.

"Real mature."

I grabbed an apple from the fridge and sat down on the table to eat. My parents had an early shift today, so they had already left.

"So, who is this boyfriend of yours?"

I choked on the first bite of my apple. How did this lady come to know?

"I don't know what you're talking about."

Real smooth, Lia. Real smooth. Couldn't even lie accurately.

"Do you think I didn't see him sneaking out at 2 in the morning?"

Seriously, Xavier? So much for, 'no one saw me'.

"Fine, Xavier and I started datin-"

"AHHH! Yes! I told you. I knew it. God, you guys look so cute together."

I looked down as I ate my apple. I really didn't want her teasing me for the blush that was slowly growing on my cheeks now. Xavier was the most selfless guy I ever met.

I just hoped life or Azrail in our case, didn't fuck anything up.

"What happened? You know you can talk to me, right?"

I was so lost in my thoughts, that I didn't even notice Luna was staring at me. I hated this about me. Even in my happiest moments, my mind would be busy anticipating the time when things would go all haywire.

"Nah, just thinking about school."

She seemed suspicious as her eyebrows weaved together. She didn't look like she believed me, but decided to just let it go.

"Okay, if you say so."

I just smiled at her as I got up to dispose of the leftover of the eaten apple. I washed my hands and took my bag. I heard Xavier's car pull up.

"Bye Luna. I'll get going now. Don't want to be late."

Luna smirked at me and swallowed her juice.

"Don't want to keep loverboy waiting, right?"

It's such a blessing and a curse to have a sister, who knows you well. I left with my phone. I jogged up to his car but wince twice at the cramps in my thighs. God, it hurts. I should have taken an aspirin. I got into the front seat and saw Xavier on his phone.

"Oh, I was going to call you, I didn't want to come in, because I wasn't sure if you your parents were there."

He wore a tight black t-shirt that showed off his rock hard chest over a pair of blue jeans. His hair was messy, again. His green eyes looked extra glassy today. I mean, they'd always been a little transparent. That is what captivated people's attention. But, today they looked glassier than usual.

"What's with the staring?"

His voice pulled me out of my thoughts. Shit, he caught me staring.

"You have pretty eyes."

What is wrong with me. God, I blurted out the first thing that came to my mind. Xavier looked shocked. His eyes widened slightly. A slightly pink blush covered his cheeks.

"Uh-h thank you?"

Why do I have to make things awkward? I could have just said something else.

Anything else.

Xavier began to drive, towards school, when I remembered the post I saw of Nicole yesterday.

"Wanna know something?"

Xavier glanced at me questioningly and went back to looking in front.

"I found Nicole's home address along with a picture of her husband and her."

I didn't know what reaction to expect from him. He could be happy about finding the home address, but now that I think about it, I shouldn't have uttered a word about the photo. I mean, I wouldn't be happy knowing that Luna got married without even informing me.

I anticipated his reaction while biting my lip, thinking of all the possible reactions.

"Uhh, that's great. Does she live in Fremont?"

Wow, that-that was the quite opposite.

"Y-Yeah. She does. Actually quite near to the restaurant we ate in."

Xavier nodded his head silently and kept driving. I decided not to push him on this matter anymore. If he has something to say to me, he will. I looked out and saw the sky. It was bright and clear. But, even then the wind blew strong. Winter was approaching us sooner than we expected. The final U-turn for our school came as I waited for Xavier to turn left.

Wait. Why didn't he turn left? Why is he going straight?

"Xavier, our school's that way. You missed the turn."

I looked at Xavier and waited for him to answer.

"Yeah, I know. We aren't going to school."
