Magic is the power that shapes and governs this world. He cannot die because his soul was caught in the process of creation by a mysterious god, and it is tethered to the realm. But he also cannot leave until he fulfills the will of the world, which he does not know or understand.  The novel is written mostly in the first person from Kazu’s point of view, but it also includes some chapters from other characters’ perspectives that reveal different aspects of the world and the plot.
