1 The Walk

Senior year, a fresh new start. New house, new mom, new school. Sounds like I'm in a movie; I'm not. My life is pretty normal for the average 17 year old girl. I lived in Oklahoma for the first 12 years of my life, then my mom died from an overdose.

My dad and I packed up everything and headed to Virginia to live closer to his parents. Slowly the area around us started to grow and become more populous. One day, Lauren moved in. She was a few years younger than my dad, she was alone, moving into a one bedroom, one bathroom, house. She was carrying her amaranth couch, she reached the porch, and fell. Dad ran across the street to help her. Before I knew she was eating dinner with us each night, not much longer, they were engaged.

"Lana, Wake up!" Dad wined from my bedroom door. I roll over and fall off my bed. Great. What a nice way to start senior year. My closest doors called my name, I get off the grey carpet and throw open the barn doors. I pick out a maya blue floral skirt from ROMWE and a peach crop top that barley covers my belly bouton. I grasp my car keys and my bag, and head downstairs. Lauren had made bacon, egg, and cheese breakfast sandwiches. " Take one and get to school," she offers while handing me one. I walk out the door and hop into my white jeep. The drive went by as fast as light. I pull into my painted parking spot. This summer I got to pick out and paint my own parking spot as a senior to be. The car door slams behind me, and Christi comes from the row behind me, " You ready girl? I can't wait to see the hot new teacher!" She laughs, " Sure, let's get this over with." I tease back. We made our way out of the maze of cars and into the D Hall entrance. Students fill the edges of the hall, and new freshman look around amazed. All the guys look, and the girls laugh. Finally, Chris goes into the library, and I make it to Chemistry. The walk of shame was over.
