1 Cyan Augur

THIS place is amazing, I thought as I my group walked into the Thoth Institute for Genetic Experiment.

I couldn't believe the Apollo Dominus chose me for this. Plus Claire, my younger sister, decided to tag along.

I felt so nervous when he told me I was to join the group on the evaluation event.

Claire obviously thought this was an excursion but I had to admit who wouldn't.

The building was grand and flashy. It was dome shaped with twenty floors. Most of the people here were in white lab coats mainly because this was Thoth territory.

Now walking in their hallway I couldn't think of anything bad about them.

I had long white hair styled in an undercut and cyan eyes hence the name Cyan. I wore a blue sweatshirt and jeans with blue sneakers which complimented my beige skin.

Claire and I had the same hair and eyes. She wore a blue headband over hair hair. She put on a blue crop top, miniskirt, leggings and blue sneakers.

Not that blue was our favourite colour, but it was the common colour for Apollo.

I looked at our group. There were some people I knew and others I didn't. I hadn't seen them before but did I know everyone in Apollo? No, I didn't.

My childhood friend Grace nudged me in the ribs.

" What'd you do that for?" I asked while rubbing them.

She was a blonde girl with blue eyes. We'd known each other since we were little and I knew her to be playful.

"Look at the representatives of the other factions," she replied.

I turned to see different people walking in through the door. I wouldn't meet most of them again but I studied some of them.

From Mars, the black clad ones, there was a tall black guy with black hair and orange highlights styled in a modern quiff. He wore a black Mars jacket with a hood, a dress shirt, black pants and black combat boots.

In the Kyrios group, there was a tanned guy with long smooth ash brown hair and grey eyes. He was dressed in a black silk suit.

From the Demeter group an average height girl with straight brown hair. Her tanned skin gleamed in the lights and her brown eyes intimidating. She wore a red shirt with an overall and brown boots.

In the Thoth group, was a tall cinnamon skinned guy. he had auburn hair styled in long dreadlocks tied in a ponytail. He was dressed in a white lab coat underneath was a green shirt and black trousers. He wore black sneakers which squeaked as he walked. His light brown eyes like everyone else's didn't want to be here.

"Attention please," a woman's voice called.

I turned to see who was talking until I found a lean Thoth woman standing on a platform.

I was about to ask Claire what she thought of the woman when I noticed she wasn't there.

"Claire?" I hissed and looked for her.

I found her with, guess what, a handsome guy.

He was taller than me. He had blue and white ruffled hair. He wore a blue hoodie and shorts. It was hard to see the name of the brand of his sneakers.

Nike.

Looking at his chiseled tanned face and electric blue eyes I knew Claire couldn't resist.

"Hi my name's Cyan and yours?" I asked putting on my best smile.

"I'm Five and I'm guessing you must be Claire's brother," he replied stretching out his hand for a shake.

I grabbed his hand. "And I'm guessing you must be Apollo but I haven't seen you around."

"Yeah."

"Cyan!" Claire exclaimed.

"Oh yeah my sister's fifteen and I don't think she'll date anyone older than eighteen. "

" Oh, I'm seventeen," he grinned.

" Dang it," I whispered under my breath.

The Thoth guy I'd seen earlier walked up to Claire. " Hi I'm -"

"Not interested," she cut him off and walked away.

Five and I looked at her in awe.

He chuckled, "I like her spirit."

"Now let's proceed," the woman said and started moving.

I found Claire walking on her own.

"Claire," I called.

She turned to me angrily, "What?"

"Why'd you just walk away like that?" I asked.

She huffed. "Why'd you butt into my conversation like that?"

I shook my head. "It's not like that but you don't just talk to any random hot guy you see."

"You're being overprotective," she said.

"And you're ... uh," I grumbled when I couldn't thin of anything to say.

At the corner of my eye, I saw Five talking to an average height redhead. Five told him something and he nodded. The boy backed into the crowd until I couldn't see him again.

Claire called my name to draw my attention. "What?"

"Can I talk to Five?" she asked.

I looked at her for a second. "Fine."

"Thanks," she said and ran over to Five.

"Younger siblings," I sighed and mistakenly walked into somebody. "Sorry."

"Don't worry," the person replied and I looked at the Mars guy from earlier. "I'm Lars. Lars Walker."

"Cyan Augur."

His eyes widened in recognition. "You don't mean -"

"The next inline Apollo Dominus Augur. The all-time successful Augur. Yeah I'm his son and that," I said pointing to my sister, "is my sister."

"It's an honour," he said.

"It's not that much of an honour." The crowd stopped walking and I looked for the cause.

We were at the room where the experiments were taking place.

"We will show you the machine that makes genetic modification possible," she announced.

This is it, I thought.

The whole crowd stopped to watch and a pin drop silence fell over the room.

"This machine," she motioned for a miniature helipad, "is the future of tomorrow."

"How 'bout a demonstration," Five suggested.

"Of course," she beamed and touched her ear. "Bring in the test subject."

The doors banged open and the Thoth guy walked into the room with a red wolf. The crowd parted as he walked past. He winked at Claire who ignored him flatly.

I felt pity for him but I had to pay attention. He reached the helipad and left the wolf on it.

"We'll start with something small, like colour change."

She moved away from the pad began to glow blue. There was a blinding flash of light and I covered my eyes. When the light died down the wolf was gone and in its place was a white one.

The crowd moment uneasily.

"Still not convinced," she said, "this time pink."

The pad glowed again but this time red. The alarm started flaring.

"Attention! High level of radiation being emitted. Evacuate the complex immediately."

Everyone began to run instantly. I saw the guy who Five was talking to crouched beside the helipad but that wasn't my issue. Claire was.

"Claire!" I yelled and got knocked to the ground by people.

The genetic modification machine exploded.

I closed my eyes expecting a blast but instead a of energy energy passed through everybody in the room.

I stood up quickly and searched for Claire. I found her on the ground unconscious and bleeding from her head.

The ground began to rumble and I turned to see a giant wolf but a different version of a wolf.

It was half the size of the room. It had third eye on its forehead and extended fangs. It's mouth had slit to its ears and it's claws were longer and sharper.

It licked its lips as it headed towards Claire.

"No!" I yelled and ran to her aid.

Five made it before me and drew it's attention. I quickly carried Claire and headed for the exit.

I studied the laceration on her head and thanked Hassien it wasn't deep.

At the corner of my eye, the wolf - no the Grahfin - swatted Five away and bounded for us.

I knew it would catch is in no time but I had hope. It was right behind me when I felt the wolf bite someone. I felt my blood run cold when someone dropped dead beside me.

I stopped in my tracks when I saw who that person was. The wolf had gone for another prey but I couldn't move as the person on the floor had a hole in his stomach and was my exact replica.
