1 CHAPTER ONE

Emma and Avery were the best of friends, they would tell each other everything from their deepest secrets to when someone new liked their new Instagram picture, it had always been the two since their freshman year of high school they've been friends with Ethan and Daniel from there they've been a group of four, they wished to remain friends until senior years and even till college and so it went that way, sophomore year was all about long car rides after school with music blasting and driving down the highway, junior year was the same just that all four of them had gone to their first-party but there was one thing that Ethan had realized about Avery, the way she looked at Emma, it was as if the world had come to a stop and she was the only person standing there, Ethan had realized since freshman year but had never mentioned it. Emma had a 2-year boyfriend and everything seemed to be going good ,but there were times where he would try and hit Emma and she would simply say that it was a mistake and that he didn't mean it but they knew they had to do something, weeks later they were at a coffee shop and there it was again Avery was glancing at Emma as if the whole world stopped there was a quick silence between them but the Ethan broke the awkward silence

"so... did you guys hear about the upcoming fair fest, we should go"

right at that moment Emma's face light up, "oh my god I thought you weren't gonna say anything, we need to go! I could drive and maybe we can book a hotel or something?"

"yea sounds like a plan" Ethan replied while both Daniel and Avery nodded their heads. a couple of hours later Emma was dropping everyone off at home she would usually drive Avery home last since they always liked to talk alone.

" so Ave do you think you'll be able to come with us, please say yes!" Avery had a soft spot for Emma and never declined anything even if it was a stupid idea,

"yea I just have to make sure, you know my mom and dad are supposed to go out of town again and I have to stay home but ill try to go"

"okay, good because I need you there and it's out last year"

from there Emma turned the music up and started singing and oh-god that made Avery feel every emotion in the work but she tried her best to hide with a small smile on her face.

" Okay well this is your stop, make sure to say hi to you're mom for me" Emma spoke.

" Thanks for the ride and don't forget our phone call at 11:00". "I sure won't ave". "all right well see you tmm, love you em stay safe". "kay bye loser, love you too!". she drove off, Avery was walking towards her door and right before she was able to fully open her door. She made a glance next door at her old creepy neighbor staring at her. she quickly opened her door and went inside locking her doors. "oh, Jesus' mom don't scare me like that!" Avery yelled " oh, honey I'm sorry didn't mean to startle you, why are you paranoid?"

Avery's mom had a soft gentle voice, the type of voice that sounds so soothing it makes you feel safe. "the creepy old man again he keeps staring out his window every time I come home, its getting kind of odd and scary" "oh well honey, you know he lives alone and has no one so try not to seem to mean, but he does seem creepy." "yea, well I'm going to go shower,"

as Avery was walking up the stairs eh tuned back and asked her mom about the festival "hey mom, there's a festival coming up, Daniel, Emma, and Ethan want to go do you think I can go" hoping that her mom would say yes, she quickly put a smile on her face" "hmm well honey, you know me and you're dad has a meeting coming up so I don think it will be possible." "oh.. well it's fine" she quickly ran upstairs to shower and call Emma to tell her the bad news.

Ring...Ring... "Heyy!!" , "hey em, okay so bad news.," Emma cut Avery off as quickly as she could knowing what was coming next.. " nOoOo you can't come, can't you," Emma said in her sad baby voice "yeaaa... I'm sorry em, but ill make it up to you!" "it's fine, I still love you either way anyways let me tell you...." from there on they stayed up talking until one of them went to bed, usually, it would Avery who would doze off before Emma but this time Emma had fallen to bed first leaving Avery thinking on how she could make it up to Emma!
