13 Chapter 13: Demi's Abilities

After the visit from the palace, Rose went straight to her working area. The sun still up in the sky, commoners still at their stalls and farms, working and entertaining their customers. Nobles handling their businesses, such as tea shops, fabric stores, clothes shops, and restaurants. Soldiers walking around, making sure that there will be no trouble happening.

Minutes later, the gates of the manor can be seen. Servants were taking care of the courtyards of the manor, some watering the plants and flowers, some were doing laundry and some were harvesting crops. David's soldiers were running around the place, seems they were given a lap of it for training, and some of them were flirting with the maid servants.

Rose smiled at the atmosphere surrounding her, the spring breeze hits her face as she kept on riding her way to her own establishment. The smell of fresh flowers, made its way to her nose, that made her a bit relaxed, and forget her problems at the moment.

She suddenly wondered on how his father is doing, also Aya, Mari and Azu. Reminding herself to write a letter, she hurriedly went to the place.

When she finally arrived, she tied Gin to the nearest tree and patted him before going inside. A surprised look made its way to her face, the rooms seemed to be a bit brighter, flowers were placed on some tables, and a smell of warm tea reached her nose.

"Not too much flowers, just like you wanted." Ara said, smiling at the doctor. Brushing her hands to her black apron dress, she guided the doctor to the kitchen. "Come here."

Rose followed Ara, the doctor arched a brow as they arrived at the doors of the kitchen.

"What are–"

"Shush," Ara said, placing a finger to her lips, "Jeff and Demi is in there, making some tea."

A surprised look plastered on Rose's face once again. She understands why Jeff is in the kitchen, but Demi? As what David's stories tells, Demi hates to go inside the kitchen. The reason is still unknown as to why the boy hates it.

Looking over the doors small windows, the boy is sitting on a stool while Jeff checked on the brewing tea. Both appears to be in a conversation that the girls cannot hear from the outside.

Rose pushed the doors open, trying to surprise the two but it looks like they knew that the doctor and nurse pair were outside spying on them. The doctor was greatly disappointed by their reactions, she expected them to be surprised.

Jeff sighed at Rose's silliness while Demi giggled at his aunt's disappointed face.

"I understand why Jeff is not surprised, but Demi?" Rose said in an exasperated tone. Ara went inside while laughing at Rose's sudden action, knowing how Rose acts childishly towards her friends and family, she already knew something like this would happen.

"I was also surprised that Demi knew you two were outside the doors," Jeff said as he turned took the kettle and poured them a tea. "Once he told me how, it makes me wonder if your family have eaten something to have that kind of abilities."

Judging by Jeff's statement, the boy must have caught her scent. Rose's eyes widen, completely astonished by Demi's beyond human abilities.

"Demi?"

"Yes, auntie?" The five year old answered.

"You have an amazing gift. Use it well."

The boy nodded. Happiness washed over Demi, he is fully aware of the abilities he have and swore that he will use it to help the people, he will surely follow her aunt's footsteps and be a great doctor like her.

"And speaking of your abilities," Rose took a stool, placing it beside Demi before sitting down. She was handed a cup of tea and cookies as she took her seat.

"Demi, would you like some tea?" Ara asked the boy, who nodded in return. Demi took a bit of his cookie while Ara placed his tea to the table beside them.

"You were talking auntie?"

Rose lets out a small giggle, her nephew is sure too mature for his age, she hopes that he will enjoy the rest of his childhood and not be too serious.

"Would you like to accompany Crown Prince Mark and help Jeff on investigating?"

"Rose, it's too dangerous." Jeff countered, he definitely opposes on Rose's strategy on helping the Crown Prince, he cannot let the child risk his life. This are serious matters and yet Rose is letting a child be in this plan.

Rose know the dangers Demi will face, but she is confident that Demi can help in investigating. With the boy's abilities, the mission will be much easier for them.

"I know that, but with Demi's abilities–"

"No," Jeff sternly said, crossing his arms and glared at the doctor, "I cannot let David's son be in this mess! He is still a child for Eclair's sake!"

"But this will make all things easier!" Rose stood up from her seat and faced the lieutenant with a hard expression, never backing down. She believes and is confident about this and she will never stop until he will agree.

"I don't care if this can help in succeeding our mission, but putting a child in this snake pit we are in will make things worse for us!"

"Please stop fighting!"

Both Rose and Jeff went silent as the boy's voice boomed. Ara immediately went to Demi's side to calm him down, a dark aura suddenly creeped, making the young adults shiver at the change of atmosphere.

Rose slowly walked up to Demi but was flown back with Jeff as the boy forced his powers to push them back, their backs slammed against the table behind them. Groaning in pain, the two of them stood up and chose to stay away from Demi until he calms down.

While Demi's dark aura was out, Ara slipped some of her energy core in him to help the boy calm down. The dark atmosphere slowly vanished and the boy had finally calmed down.

He cleared his throat and crossed his arms.

"I will take Auntie Rose's offer." Demi firmly said.

"Great," Rose muttered, "all you have to do is just use your nose." She rubbed her back to soothe it from the pain. Jeff grumbled, rubbing his temples. David will surely murder and feed them to the lions.

Feeling worried and anxious, he sipped his tea to calm his nerves down. As Jeff stared into space, Rose continued on drinking her tea as if she just didn't proposed a crazy plan like risking a child's life, while Demi bubbly attitude copied his aunt.

Ara shook her head to the sides, this is what a typical Izamae would always do, do or say something off the wall then act like nothing happened afterwards.

"Demi," Jeff said as he approached and placed a hand on the boy's shoulder, "you know that this is dangerous, yeah?"

Demi rolled his eyes, "of course I know! Don't treat me like a dumb child. I am an Izamae, Lieutenant."

He hopped down the stool and straightened his clothes, after that, he looked up to the lieutenant with a hard stare.

"I must go, I need to attend my class and do not wish to keep my tutor waiting." And with that, he walked out of the kitchen. Ara followed the young boy.

Completely baffled by Demi's actions, Jeff looked at the older Izamae. The Doctor nibbled on her cookies and smiled in delight as the sweetness touched her tongue.

"Rose!" Jeff exclaimed, he can literally believe the young Izamae to do that. While Rose on the other hand just raised a brow at him.

"Oh, let him be!" She stood up from her seat, taking the dishes and placed them on the tray nearby. She took it all to the sink and started washing them.

Rose knew that her nephew is always like this, it runs in their blood after all.

"How was Kari?" Rose asked, changing the topic. She heard Jeff's sinister chuckle as he went beside her, leaning against the counter.

The doctor raised a brow at her friend, it is rare of Jeff to let out the evil side of him, which made Rose a little bit confused. Did the lieutenant found something for their advantage?

Jeff didn't answer her question and instead, he hummed a tune that made Rose freeze on her spot, almost dropping the teacup in her hands.

"You are kidding right?" Rose muttered as her shaky hands continued on washing the dishes. With Jeff humming the tune over and over, Rose couldn't take it anymore and slammed the cup to his head.

"She's dead! Did you at least got something from her?"

"Oh, I tried, but she's annoying me. She wouldn't cooperate and stop screaming! So I, you know." Jeff simply shrugged before his eyes darkened. The blood trickled down from his forehead that made him look like the devil, wanting to kill more. He was not bothered by the pain and blood at all.

"Slit. Her. Throat."

Rose paled, this was the Jeff she feared when they were kids. This is the dark side of him that most of them doesn't want to be with. She already witnessed him kill a poor deer who did nothing and hummed the same tune. And all of this was kept, she never mentioned it to anyone, only the two of them knows about this.

"How are you going to explain this to David?!" Rose hissed, wiping the blood from his face with a clean towel she took from the cupboard. Anger took over her, she can't imagine that Jeff would do something so reckless!

"He knows. I told him." Jeff said, taking the towel from her. "Don't stress. I got something from her anyways."

With furrowed brows, Rose nodded, gesturing for the man to continue.

"I went inside her head," he said, "and all I got is that, a woman is giving her orders to kill you, so that curing the Crown Prince would be impossible. Kari is working with a man and I know that you know him."

Rose nodded, wondering who the man Kari is working with, her thoughts went to Enno.

"Enno? Is that his name?"

"Yes," She replied, gritting her teeth, she continued on doing the dishes while Jeff cleaned the floor, taking the shattered pieces of glass to bin.

"You must be careful out there, seeing you already trusted the man you just met on the first day." He stated, brushing his hands together.

Rose remained silent, and after she was finished. She motioned for Jeff to follow her. Waltzing to the back of the establishment, she opened the door to her own working area and lets the man go inside first.

"Come here." She said, walking inside the storage room. Rose walked out with herbs in her hands and placed them to the table. "Sit and wait."

Jeff followed what she said and took a seat.

"Rose?"

Rose hummed, while she crushed the herbs with a mortar and pestle.

"Are you sure about dragging Demi into this mission?"

Rose sighed, "I thought we have already cleared this."

"I am just worried for the boy, he is too young for this."

"Says the one who killed a deer ruthlessly when he was four." Rose answered, who earned a glare from the man. "I am confident about Demi's abilities."

"He pushed us away with his powers, he can pick up any kind of scent that was sent in his way. With him we can accomplish this."

Jeff scowled, there is nothing he can do to change her mind, and all he can do is to protect the boy even if it means the lieutenant getting killed.

Both went silent, which made Rose focused more into making a remedy to ease the pain and close her friend's wound.

Rose's hands swiftly making the remedy, making sure that she made it correctly. After it was done, she grab a bowl and poured a clean water in it, making her way to where Jeff is seated, she placed the remedy to the table. She waltz to the cabinetry to snatch a bandage and two clean towels before going back to Jeff.

Placing the objects carefully, Rose turned to the man who is waiting patiently for the doctor.

Rose discreetly holds Jeff's jaw and examined the wound. She's glad that there were no tiny shards of glass sticking to his wound that would give her some complications, she mentally cursed herself for acting so indignant.

The doctor grabbed the towel and dipped it into the bowl and slowly wiped the blood that was still slowly gushing out, then she wiped the wound with the dry towel before applying the remedy she made earlier. After that, she placed the bandage to cover up the wound to avoid any infections.

"If you feel a headache, ask a servant to make you some tea." She stated before picking up the things and cleaned the table. "take a rest, Jeff."
