10 Chapter 10: Rose's First Day

Rose woke up with the sunrise hitting her face, she sat up and stretched her arms up before calling Kari.

"Yes?" Kari said and bowed.

"Were you there the whole night?"

"Oh no. We usually wake up early before the sun rises." Kari replied, opening the curtains wider for the light to come in.

"Will you prepare me a warm bath, please?" Rose asked, standing up from the bed and took a glance out of the window. The morning light hitting the beautiful flowers mesmerized her.

"Will do." The maid replied and went inside the bathroom connected to the room.

As Kari prepared the bath, Rose took her robes to wear and walked out of the bedroom barefooted. Walking down the stairs silently and carefully to not wake the others up, Rose finally made it to the garden.

The flowers bloomed as the light hits them, different colors surrounded her and the fragrant smell made the lady relax.

She took off her robe and continued on to observing the scenery. Her wavy black hair flowed as the wind passed by and the sun kissed her light skin making it glow, she laid down feeling the green blades against her skin.

Moments later, she heard her name being called. Sitting up from her position, she looked around and saw Kari running towards her direction.

Kari paused to Rose's side and helped her up, she grabbed the robe from the ground, instantly wrapping it to her shoulders to cover her exposed body that is only covered with thin silk.

"You should cover your body, Miss Rose!" Kari exclaimed and guided her back to her bedroom, after closing the door behind them, she shoved Rose to the bathroom, "clean up, your breakfast will be ready once you are done."

Closing the doors shut, Rose was left stunned inside the bathroom. She knows it's kind of wrong to do that but she's inside the manor, not outside in the public.

Rose sighed and stripped off, shaking her head at Kari. She need to apologize to the maid after breakfast. Poor girl must be traumatized after seeing her in such state, most ladies doesn't do this kind of act and clearly Rose is one of those peculiar girls.

After taking a bath, Rose wrapped herself with a towel and waltz to the closet, taking out a white cotton dress and a fern green apron dress out, her outfit is similar to what the maids usually wear but Rose's dress is only below the knee while the maids' dresses were long, covering their legs.

She opened the door and see Kari who just finished in cleaning the room. The maid's eyes widen and gasped as she glanced at what Rose is wearing.

"Why are you wearing a maid's clothes? You should change!"

Rose shook her head, "this is what lady doctors wear in Eclair, Kari. Don't you worry too much."

"Can you tie my hair to a low bun?" Rose asked as she sat to the vanity stool. Kari pouted, why is Rose so different from other ladies? She thought that Rose's behavior will be just like the noble ladies out there? She shook her head and went to tie the doctor's hair. Serving Rose would be harder than she thought.

Kari tamed her hair with a hairbrush before twisting and turning her hair to a nice low bun, leaving the bangs to hang and frame her face. Rose thanked Kari and stood up to grab her socks from the closet.

"Well, your breakfast is ready downstairs, where do you want to eat?"

"In the garden, I want to watch the beautiful flowers." Rose said as she put on her long black socks and boots, after that she went outside to sit in the patio while Kari went to the kitchen.

Servants were already working in the garden, watering the flowers and the grass. As Rose waited for her breakfast, a boy sat in front of her smiling widely. His smile seemed to brighten up the garden, his dimples showing up on both cheeks, his beautiful amber eyes and messy black hair shined as the sun hits his light skin.

"Good morning, Auntie!" Demi greeted her, Rose smiled at the boy. Even his voice is sweet, the servants who is working around the garden cooed at their Young Master's adorableness.

"Good morning, Demi," Rose greeted back, "where's your Mama and Papa?"

"They eat their breakfast in their bedroom," Demi responded as he leaned back to the chair, his eyes fixed to the flowers. While they waited for their breakfast, Rose taught Demi about the flowers in the garden, she thought that her nephew wouldn't be interested but as she took a glance, she can see that the boy is enjoying in learning new things.

"Young Master and Miss Rose, your breakfast." Kari placed their breakfast to the table and stood back to let them enjoy their morning

Demi's happy face turned sour, his nose is so sensitive that he smelled something wrong in their drinks. He grabbed his milk and sniffed it, he gritted his teeth and threw the glass of milk away.

This startled Rose and the servants who were near them while Demi glared at Kari.

"Is there something wrong, Demi?" Rose asked with concerned look. She is aware why Demi is acting this way but chose to stand back and see the outcome of this drama.

"Poison," was only Demi said as he jumped off his seat and grabbed his aunt's coffee, sniffing it. Disgust plastered his face and threw the cup away, shattering it.

His head turned to the maid who served them their drink and glared at her with so much hate. He knows that it's Kari who mixed the poison in their drinks.

"What happened? I heard a glass shattered." David ran out of the house towards the patio where his son and sister is.

"That maid poured a poison in our drinks," Demi pointed to Kari who trembled in fear and ran out of the scene, she didn't expect for that damn kid to know, she thought she's going to get this mission done but now she's caught because of that brat.

Kari failed in escaping and got caught by Jeff that was hiding in the shadows, he tripped the girl and knocked her out before dragging her to the cells.

David sighed and embraced his son, grateful that he's alright. "How did you know that there's poison?"

"He sniffed the cups," Rose answered getting up from her seat and went to the shattered glass of milk, she took out a handkerchief from her pocket and wiped the liquid from the floor, "What great morning this is."

She stood up and asked for her brother's handkerchief, she went to where the shattered cup of coffee is and wiped it with the handkerchief.

With two different handkerchiefs on both her hands, she walked up to her brother with Demi still in his embrace.

"I'll take you to your workplace, later." David said.

"Don't worry Papa, I'm fine."

David gave Demi a loving gaze, his son is so young yet he have a mind of a mature person. He is proud but is also worried that his son might never going to enjoy his life as a child.

Ruffling the boy's hair, he nodded and left his son in the patio with a guard with him while Rose followed him outside the house. Both were silent as they walked through the hallways and when they were finally out, David abruptly stopped.

"Don't spill any of this to Riza, alright?" David's voice wavered a bit before clearing his throat and started walking again, Rose lets out a small laugh before agreeing with him.

Riza is a worrywart and when something happens to them especially her son, she wouldn't stoo worrying and would go on a protective mother but this is not what they're worried about, if she picks up on this, she will hunt down and murder the maid without any second thoughts.

The both walked on the side of the gravel path in silence until they made it in a two storey building that Rose admired the first time they arrived.

"This place will be your workplace." David said. Rose getting excited by all of this ran inside to check, she gasped in surprise.

The baby blue walls gave her a calm feeling couches and a small table being placed to the side for visitors to sit in. There are 5 doors and a stairs to her right, she went upstairs to see the place and was amazed to see beds and white curtains to give patients some space. There are 5 beds with a small table, a chair to the side, and a window at the back.

"You made a job well done in decorating the place," Rose complemented her brother as she went down carefully. "It's just like the kingdom's hospital, only smaller."

"6 rooms, receiving area, apothecary, Ara's office, kitchen and a comfort room for the guests and patients. Upstairs are beds for your patients and also there is another building at the back which is your own working space."

"Thank you, David." Rose said and made her way to the back, "can you open the door for me, please?"

David followed Rose and opened the door for her. She smiled as she saw a row of herbs and medicinal plants of different kinds in a row, some are rare ones that can only be seen in Eclair and other kingdoms.

"This place is amazing." She said, she went to the one storey building not far away and let David open the door for her once again.

On the left there's a room for her to work, a large table is in the middle of the room with 3 stools, a broiler, sink, cabinets were placed for her store items and instruments for healing, and different sizes of cauldrons under the large table, a door to the side of the room for her to store her medicinal plants. While on the right is a living space with a couch, big enough for a person to sleep in, a small table, a fireplace, and another door to the left side of the room that leads to her office.

"This is a large place," Rose said exploring her office, bookshelves placed against the wall, her office table, and another two doors, the other leads her outside to the hallway and the other is her own bathroom and closet.

"The three royal guards will be the one guarding the place, their sleeping quarters is not that far from here." David said following his sister back to her workroom, "I will also have my soldiers guards this place during the night."

Rose placed the handkerchiefs on the table and washed her hands.

This place is perfect for her to make medicines, she now have her own garden for her herbs and medicinal plants. Having her own place to work is really amazing, she doesn't have her own place like this back in Eclair and shares a workroom with her father.

Turning to her brother, she smiled. "Thank you brother, this place is certainly amazing."

"This is yours actually," David walked in and sat at the table, "the first time we moved in, I was thinking of giving you your own."

"Are you kidding?"

David laughed at her, "of course not! I can't let my little sister share a workroom with father. I want her to have her own!"

Rose laughed along with David and gave him a bone crushing hug. "Thank you so much!"

David returned the hug, "alright alright!"

Rose pulled away from the hug and kissed his cheek, "tell the people that I will be in service next month, any illnesses they're feeling or anything really, I can help. No charges."

David smiled at his sister's generosity, her heart balanced with warmness and coldness. Going back to what happened earlier, Rose's reaction of knowing that there was poison in their drinks sparked his curiousity.

Rose on the other hand started boiling water and placed the handkerchiefs in a two separate bowl. She knew there was poison in their drinks just by looking at it, and the maid's actions is what gave it away. The way Kari moved and placed the cups with such eagerness that she cannot see in others, the way she smiled too sweet that it makes Rose wants to slap the maid's face, the way she looks at them waiting for them to sip their drinks. It didn't go unnoticed by Rose.

The way Demi acted as the boy introduced her to Kari gave her second thoughts into trusting the maid. But what surprised her is that Demi immediately picked up on the scent, the boy sure have high senses.

It's only her first day here and yet she already had encountered something like this.

"Rose? Why are you so calm about what happened earlier?" David asked.

She joined her brother in the table and sat. "I know something like this would happen, but I did not expect it to be in my first day here."

After she answered, she stood up and went to grab the kettle and poured it to the bowls. As the hot water was poured in the bowl, the water turned into two different colors, the handkerchief with milk turned to blue while the handkerchief with her coffee turned to red. She hummed and placed back the kettle to the broiler.

She assumed that the hot water would not work but it turns out, her prediction is correct, the poisons in their drinks were the 2nd class ones. Sun's Tear and Water Dragon's Blood.

Sun's Tear Poison is a poison that will attack the brain down to the whole nervous system, by this, it will make the the person who took the poison have paralysis. The poison will take 3-4 days to activate.

Water Dragon's Blood is a poison that will attack the heart, the poison activates after a minute the person have drank it and will lead them to quick death.

Rose sighed in relief, she is glad that Demi have high senses and can smell that there is something wrong with their drinks. Demi would've been paralyzed and her... Dead.

"I have never seen you this calm," David's worried voice reached her ear.

"I'm calm, but not that much calm." Rose replied, "I am actually a little scared, who knows what is more out there, but I need to be ready with this, my job is to help the people. I face challenges every day, and this is one of them."

"I understand," David said. He stood up brushing his clothes straight, "change your clothes."

Rose raised a brow at him, obviously confused. "Why?"

"Oh, we are going to the Royal Palace." He answered briefly and walked out the room. Rose's eyes widen at his response, David should have told her earlier that they are going to the Royal Palace. She couldn't care less about changing, if he had told her earlier this day then she would've brought her white coat.

Rose groaned, flailing her arms. Now she have to walk back to the house and grab the coat and her things. As she made it out the establishment, she ran all the way to the house and to her room, hurriedly grabbing a coat from her closet and her bag that was placed on the table. She ran again all the way outside where his brother is waiting for her.

Seeing her stallion ready, she hastily went down the stairs but careful enough with her steps to not trip. When she made it down, she greeted Enno who took care of Gin and helped her mounting.

After that, she thanked the man and nodded at David, giving him a signal that they are ready to go.

Thousand of thoughts flooded into Rose's head, thinking of any possible outcomes that may happen as they arrive. Rumors will be spread of course, the people will most likely talk about the Crown Prince's doctor. Arrogant nobles will get into the scene and try to gain her favor, which she mostly despise.

All of this will be a pain, but she will try her best. She is hoping that the Prince is different from what David described him, and will cooperate with her.

She will definitely find a cure and not let everyone down, especially her kingdom and Queen Rhea who is counting on her success.
