Chapter 20: I Never Wanted This

Hunter navigated the labyrinthine corridors of the old folks' home, his footsteps echoing in tandem with the distant hum of life confined within the familiar walls. He approached Room 215, where his mother resided, a place both alien and disconcertingly familiar since he was just a young child.

Pushing open the door, he stepped into the room bathed in sterile fluorescence. His gaze searched the room for her. She wasn't there. He turned back and left the room. Have you seen the woman in room 215? He asked a nurse, catching them by the elbow.

He looked him up and down, smirked, and then nodded.

"Garden." He said.

Hunter nodded, "Thanks." then let go of his sleeve.

"No problem, handsome." He said, giving him an appreciative once over.

Hunter raised an appreciative eyebrow at him, but turned and walked away.
