The Hatchet

Looking down at the river side, Roy happened upon what looked to be an old rusted hatchet with a broken handle.

'Did this thing get carried with the current? It looks to have been in the water for a long time, it's absolutely coated in rust. Not to mention the handle is busted up pretty bad.'

Walking over to the hatchet, Roy propped it up by the handle, as he was having trouble lifting it.

'This gives me a good idea to my current height! If this thing is made for human hands, I should be around the height of a 1~2 year old right now. That's some crazy size for a newborn, but I guess it makes sense. Orcs from manga and light novels were always obscenely big.'

Setting the handle of the hatchet down, Roy attempted to inspect it.

'A real pity, but I can definitely still make use of it. If I can manage to level up today I will definitely be strong enough to carry it along with me. The shortened handle actually works in my favor as well. I just need to make a sling to carry it on my back. My grip strength isn't strong enough to hold it for hours on end, even if I level up a couple more times.'

Completing his daily planning, Roy walked over to the river to splash his face with some water, before taking a sip and then dribbling a bit into Inbellis' mobile home.

"MMMMM-ahhhhh" Roy let out as he stretched out. 'Whew that felt good. Time to get to work.' Roy thought as he began to do some math in the sand. 'Let's see... Species Exp, I need 34, so I need to kill 102 critters today. That should feed me the whole day and some for tomorrow morning. Maybe I should make a container for my food too, since I'm already making the cordage for the sling?'

Figuring out the total he needed, Roy got to work immediately. Lifting up his first rock, he began is extermination.

'Finally! Damn centipedes ate too many roly-polies.' Roy complained to himself over the lack of roly-polies. 'At least it's finally done, now I can enjoy breakfast and begin work on my two new projects.' Roy happily thought to himself with a smile showing under his snout.

Eating his breakfast with Inbellis, Roy began to draw his design for the sling in the dirt. 'First of all, I can't really make a sheath over the sharp bit, so I guess I'll just make the cordage wrap loosely around the hatchet head, then add a tightening knot so I can adjust it when I want. That'll keep it off my skin and help secure it. Then I'll have it wrap around my shoulder diagonally.'

*Munch* *Munch*

'As for the bug container, maybe I can use sticks as a frame, then use thinner cordage for knotting the frame, and finally use those thick long blades of grass for the basket weaving.'

*Burp*

Getting his fill of breakfast, Roy went to the river to wash it down, before heading out to collect all the necessary materials.

...

Around noon, Roy made his way back to the temporary base for the final time. In his hands were the last batches of materials.

'Wow that took a lot of trips, good thing I leveled my strength up first.' Feeling satisfied with his slightly increased stamina, Roy sat down and took a break to eat lunch.

After finishing his meal, he began the processing of the materials. He created the thick and thin cordage, then began to fix the sticks he had brought into a small basket shape, before tying them with the thin cordage. After finishing that He began to weave the long grass into it, creating the looks of a completed small basket with two holes in it.

'Perfect! Now I just need to add some cordage to the holes... Aaaaand presto! One basket completed!'

'Woah! This thing came out even better than I was hoping! Let's keep this ball rolling for the sling!' Roy elatedly thought.

Around two hours later, Roy had finally succeeded in creating his sling.

'That took quite a while, but I think it turned out pretty well. Mostly matches my imagined design too, now I just gotta hope the system sees it the same way.' Roy crossed his fingers with hope the sling would come out as medium quality, and his hope was met.

"Buhihi!" Roy laughed with a goofy smile on his face.

Standing up, Roy strapped the critter filled basket to his left side around his waste. After that he strapped his sling from his left shoulder to his right side. Finally he placed Inbellis' mobile home on his right shoulder like a purse.

All suited up, Roy moved out to the river to collect his hatchet.

"Urgh!" Roy groaned, as he picked up the hatchet. Finally getting it over his shoulder and into it's container. 'I can really feel the extra weight. I can tell I'm gonna have to make extra rest stops, but it's definitely worth it to have a means of protection.' Roy began to think back to the night before last, and how easily he could have died. 'It would have been over immediately if I had this hatchet.'

With eyes showing many emotions, Roy began slowly walking once again up the river.

{Info}

Str is tied to HP with a ratio of 1:1

Int is tied to MP with a ratio of 1:0.5

Lesser species gain 1 stat point in either Str, Agi, or Int per level.

Apprentice jobs give a stat point increase of 1 per affected stat per level.

There are multiple ways to increase HP and MP, but those ratios do not work both ways. For example, gaining a 10% MP boost achievement does not mean you will have more Int as well.

Str affects muscle strength, stamina, HP, and resistance.

Agi affects reflex, speed, and dexterity.

Int affects memory, MP, and thought processing speed.

Roy finally found something he can use aside from rocks!
