9 Chapter Arrested budding sweet relationship

A year after....

Kaitlin was busy writing her report to beat the deadline when her phone rang. She check on the number registered and wondered, Why on earth only now this guy is calling her.

"Hello,"

"Hi bunny how are you?" he replied

"Considering, I haven't heard from you for a long time, What is it now Pinocchio?"

"Ouch! my poor heart, why will you think that I need something from you other that than checking on my best friend?"

"First you are not my best friend, secondly, a friend doesn't take advantage to the other. And thirdly I know you like the back of my hand. Now spit it out Douglas!"

"Well, I need your connection and your help bunny, I'm in big trouble."

he acted like embarrassed but Kaitlyn knew better.

"Sorry I'm busy."

"It might interest you, if you know that you will get something from it."

"What is it?" she said flatly sounding uninterested, but her attention was picked.

"Can't talk on the phone, meet me in ten minutes same place."

"You're in the city? Oh... this better be good Pinocchio or I'll beat you, till you won't be able to move and regret why did you deceived me." she replied.

"OK , OK see you soon." he said abruptly then hanged up. Kaitlyn was wondering with his action this time it seems like he has change

As expected Kaitlyn was the first to reach their meeting place. She can't help but wonder want went wrong to their blossoming relationship. One time he was so sweet and caring then, just little by little they don't move in the same circle the sweet message stop gradually the 'hello's',' how are you text messages' and the call in the middle of the night ceased , then eventually stop seeing each other. She also heard the scandal he was in, costing his position as the chief of police. He was demoted to a position and was assign to another city. Her thoughts was halted with the shadow appeared on her side vision, she turn to look.

"Sorry I was late." Kaitlyn was surprise to see the appearance of her friend long unkempt hair, unshaven beard, he looks so haggard, she almost unable to recognized him if not for his voice."What the hell happened to you, are you on drugs or something?"

"No,.. I'm on the run, some people are after my head. this is just a disguise to evade them."

"So what is new? I told you before to be careful as you have been exposed they will come after you.

"Can't help it, it's part of the job." he said regretfully.

"So what's now Doug, how can I be of help?"

"Do you remember Grey Eagle?"

"Of course! I'm working on him now, but I can't seem to break in, it seems he is so elusive, doesn't leave a trail and someone is protecting him from way up high." she said wrinkling her brows. "What about him?"

"Here's the information you need contacts, list, names, transactions, just dig on it you might find something useful. " Doug handed her a small brown envelope. Kaitlyn peep inside the envelope and discovered it is a USB and some papers and pictures inside.

"Why are you giving it to me?Are you quitting on your job?"

"Quitting is not in my vocabulary, you know that. It's just I want them to be misled, you expose them little by little not divulging the bigger information just to take away their attention from me so I can move freely. Then we meet to plan on how to make our move." he said.

"OK, but seems to me you want them to turn their attention to me, is like handling my head to them on the platter."

"Not so bunny, you have a very complicated network that can't be easily trace, besides I got faith in you to be able to easily escape on any situation."

"Thanks, my heart swells with your complements Pinocchio." she teasingly made a gesture of total gratitude.

"Thanks, Kaith I'm really counting on you." He spends a while just stating at her not knowing how to react with her teasing. It left Kaitlyn baffled on what's going on. she doesn't get this reaction from him ever since. "What is wrong Doug?" she ask worriedly.

"Nothing,,, I better be going. Take care, I call you."

"OK, you too take care."

On reaching her office she directly open her computer and load the USB. While waiting on it she take a look at the pictures and documents inside the envelope. She can imagine the difficulties and dangers that Douglas face 5to acquire these informations.

She take a look at her computer punched some keys and was more shocked at the information it revealed.
