5 Chapter Five

Years have gone, and the couple were living Very happy , settle problems within themselves. Chinedu kept showering gifts to his wife. She saw herself as one of the luckiest women on earth. Life was indeed beautiful in there own world... Chinedu's mother has decided to pay them a surprise visit. The security man led the mother into the sitting room and offered her a seat to wait for the couple.

"Thank you my son" Chinedu's mother appreciate the security man " hmm this place has changed a lot... Looks like heaven on earth" she thought within herself. As she was looking around admiring the beauty of the house, Chinedu and his wife came out, lo and behold, they saw there mother with her small luggage.

"Hah! Mommy Good morning" Iruoma greeted drawing closer to give her a warm hug.

"Hmm" chinedu moved closer to hug his mother "you didn't tell me, you were coming mother?" he asked as he adjusted his long tie.

"Did you greet me before asking me all this question boy?...." The mother said as she sat back on the chair "meanwhile if really that I told you my coming, you will look for an excuse to give me, so its better i give you this kind of surprising visit" she narrates, crossing her leg. They all laughed at what the mother said.

"But you could have come around afternoon or towards evening, so that by then food could have been ready.... well, I'm leaving for work... And....Ermmmm... The housed help will give you whatever you need okay. Bye" she pecks her husband and left hurriedly

"Mom, I'm leaving too, we have meeting today, so see you in the evening" he smiled as he taps her mother gently on the shoulder and made his move to leave but he turns and called the housed help "Amara!"

"Sir!" She answered and rushed in

"Take mama to her room, make sure her room is very clean and give her enough food " he said while leaving

"Okay sir" she went and carried the mother's small luggage to her room.

Later in the night, when everyone was fast sleeping, the mother went to the couple's room knocking impatiently

"Who's that!" He asked as he jumped up to know the problem

"Your mother" still knocking

"Ah! Mama, why are you knocking and disturbing us by this time" sitting on the bed as he scratch his head "even knocking as if something was pursuing you" he hissed quietly

"Come out, we need to talk"

"Talk?"looking straight to his wall clock "by this hour?" Looking at his wife with questions that couldn't be answered reading on his face

"Go and know the problem, it might be something serious" his wife said as she reach for the duvet to cover her self very well. He stood up and went to open the door

"Let's go to the sitting room "walking out from Chinedu. He has no option than to follow her. When they reached in the sitting room, both of them sat down. Chinedu kept looking at his mother for her to tell him the problem "I called you out for an important thing"

"What could that be"he asked so worried

"Its about your wife " she said looking at him

"What happened to her"he asked with a bent face, not knowing what's her actual point

"I'm not sure, she knows her purpose in this house, or didn't you tell her?" She asked with a frown face

"Hmm.... Mama please tell me her purpose, if you don't mind " he asked still bent his face

"To bear children for the family" she stood because she was assuming that sitting wont help the matter but for her to stand, for her to hit the words to him "just look at the way she dress, without shame! Dressing as someone without husband!..... So tell me how bearing children will be a priority to her..... What she cares for is work work work! She didn't know that wife bears children" she said turning her back

" what's the meaning of this" bringing up his face "mama, may I remind you that our marriage is just six years now.... So, why the rush.... Mama we're not the giver of children!" He fires back at her mother

"Where you shouting on me? You are indeed mad..." She reached for chair to support her old age "looking at who's talking,...your marriage is just six years now"she mimicked her son "where you and David didn't wed in the same year? But look, the wife has given him two kids and another is on the way already.... Are you not ashamed that your so-called wife couldn't give you one to inherit all this"she replied with anger

"Mama i hope you didn't come here to insult my wife oo, because if its true... I'm going to tie you like firewood and bundle you to the village and you know that" leaving her mother alone in the sitting room, he stumbled on his wife . She came in to know the reason for all the shouting

"Baby ,, why all this shouting. What's the matter"Iruoma asked

"Really?... Out of my way "his mother pushed iruoma aside as she walked past them ."baby at my face?" She hissed and went inside her room murmuring

"Baby, what is it" so confuse"why did your mother pushed me like this"

"I'm not in the mood okay? Let's go back to bed dear"he took her hand for them to retire to the bed... What happened that night kept disturbing iruoma through out the night. She couldn't point the exact problem, because she didn't know what resulted to this. She kept pondering through out the night.....
