10 Welcome to the jungle

It didn't take even one hour for them to reach Chicago. The place truly looked different than their hometown. Only the tall buildings that had been damaged but were still standing despite showing the signs of the monsters' actions. All the rest of the city was brand new.

Some armed guards were guarding the entrance of the place, but they didn't try to stop Terry and the others. For a while, they moved in a straight line, but soon they had to ask for directions.

According to the people that they talked to, there were two guilds in the city and three portals. The guilds were Void and the Fire Troupe, and they were fighting to clear the new dungeon that appeared. It didn't look like they got along either, and that has been happening for many years.

"What are we going to do?" Rebecca asked.

"We can do whatever we want with the materials of the not conquered dungeon, so I am heading there to get a feel of the situation inside," Terry replied. "You should look for some buildings for rent for us, I will send the money to your account, and you can come to pick me up at sunset."

"Are you sure?" Rebecca asked while frowning. "It seems that the enemies are hard to deal with because they are giants… endurance and strength are their forte. It might be dangerous if you get surrounded."

"I will make sure not to let that happen," Terry said.

One of the dungeons was in the Southwestern part of the city, and the other was in the opposite direction. The final one was in the Northwestern part of the city, and Terry wanted to check the place as soon as possible.

Rebecca was worried, but Terry didn't seem like a hot-blooded fool. While he quickly assumed that the dungeons in his hometown were too easy for him, he did so after not getting hurt a single time. His confidence was well-founded.

When they reached their destination, they began to attract the attention of a lot of people. Hundreds of people were around the area since they were offering support to their guilds, after all, and the atmosphere was tense since they were competing against each other.

"Yikes, the atmosphere here is quite unnerving," Rebecca said while showing a nervous smile.

"Letting them intimidate you won't help you in any way," Terry said. "Regardless, I am jumping out here, and you can go look for the building."

"Understood," Rebecca said.

Rebecca turned around, and Terry approached the portal. The place couldn't be guarded since no one had claimed ownership over it yet. Still, Terry felt some intense stares… he bought some new clothes that were appropriate for fighting, but he didn't look that strong, so most people couldn't help but frown.

Terry ignored them all and just crossed the portal. Before long, he found himself in a dense jungle. The vegetation was quite high, and so were the trees around. The first goal was to look for the portal to the exit, but before that could happen, Terry could feel the ground slightly trembling.

"They are nearby already…" Terry thought while increasing the grip on his spear.

After waiting for a short while, Terry saw two giants approaching. They were five meters tall and quite muscular creatures… they didn't have hair on their heads, but that only made them look more fearsome. The weird thing about that was the fact that they looked a lot like humans, but they had only a single piece of animal leather covering their parts. Terry felt that it would be better if those didn't fall off. Otherwise, he would probably be scarred for life…

The two beasts began to charge at Terry while avoiding the trees. They weren't that fast, but they didn't have to be. Adding momentum, even a bit of it, with a body of that size, would be enough to crush most humans.

In any case, Terry equipped his wind Wand and then fired a breeze arrow at the enemy's face. The creature tried to protect itself, but its arm didn't move fast enough to pull that off. The arrow hit the middle point between the eyebrows, and some blood began to fall from the wound as the beast slowed down.

The other creature approached, already protecting its head against the spell, and then tried to kick Terry, but he jumped to the side and dodged the attack. He could have counterattacked, but he decided to have a good feel of the enemy's power and speed.

When the beast turned around to see him, Terry already had his crossbow in hand and then fired one bolt that exploded in the creature's face. The creature began to grunt in pain, and then the other approached and tried to kick Terry.

He jumped to the side again, but then his back hit a tree… Terry confirmed that fighting when some many obstacles were around was way more difficult. The beast turned around, already swinging its left leg to kick Terry, but he just jumped and avoided the hit. They landed on the knee of the creature and then approached to stab the head of the giant. The beast moved its arms to protect its face, but then Terry stabbed its throat with all his might.

A lot of blood began to gush from the wound since the spear pierced deeply. However, the monster wasn't going to die instantly… Before Terry could finish the job, the other enemy approached while swinging its giant arm to slap him away.

Terry jumped backward to avoid the hit, and while he did it, the pressure of the attack created a wave of wind that pushed him away and made him roll on the ground…
