66 Chapter 66: The Popular Kids (Pt 1)

All the other Dark Beings and demons who enrolled in the class gathered around the trio and Cassandra. The boldest of the group were the few demons as well as the 'Royal' B ranks.

The demons tried to use their noble status to become closer to Persephone and Satana while ignoring Mordred. They knew of Mordred's legendary cold personality so they knew that trying to fawn over him would most likely end with them being beaten or worse.

But as they tried their luck with the witch and dragoness, they noticed that while the pair seemed friendly, they had gazes that seemed to say 'piss off.',' you are annoying.', and 'don't even waste your breath.'

The group did not want to recruit any demons to their legions or forces. Most demons came from a noble lineage which meant that they had political ties. The 9 did not want to be tied to any of the political groups of Hel just like most Demon Lords and Emperors before they.

Many demons wanted to change the current political structure. Although they believed that the strong should rule, they were tired of all the highest positions being occupied by only SS ranks.

By convincing at least 2 or 3 of the future Demon Lords to join their cause, the future state of Hel could be changed in a different direction.

Another reason why they did not recruit the demons is that they simply did not need to and were reluctant to.

From their studies as well as hypotheses, the 9 realized that although they could evolve weaker creatures, there was a limit. They assumed that even with Esper and Titan, the maximum amount a creature could evolve was 5 ranks.

With the number of stat points each one raised, the first 4 could raise a creature to the next rank or skip ranks for lower-ranked creatures easily while Titan could turn even the lowest E-rank into an X-rank creature in one push.

The more serums a creature took before evolving, the more likely they would get a better evolution. But by evolving, there was no guarantee that the creature would reach the peak of their rank.

Similar to Mordred as he was now. He had taken 3 serums but was only a low SSS rank creature. He should have received 180 stat points total per level but due to his evolution, he only gained 50 though.

If he stayed at his previous form, he would have been more powerful than most SS ranks in terms of pure stats, but his most powerful abilities, his racial abilities, would be so much weaker.

So Mordred and the others made their choices. And with the racial abilities that they gained, they could easily surpass themselves if they had chosen not to evolve and keep the stat points.

Whether it was those who had their combat powers soar like Satana and Kali or those who gained rare and multi-purpose skills like Persephone or Mania. Each of them gained a skill that no one else or few had in the entire world.

Back to the main point, the reason why Mordred and the others were reluctant/didn't need to use demons is that they could simply evolve the Dark Beings into existence that surpassed the demons and could become equal to low X-rank creatures.

The demons were also arrogant. While some dark beings were also arrogant, they were more likely to be grateful for the power they were given. And even if the contract skill said it had absolute loyalty, history would disagree.

The demons were also nobles as stated before. They may not completely betray the 9, they might inform their families of their increase in power and how they came across it.

This could lead to not only other demons but the entire world knowing about the group's special opportunity to evolve.

At best it would lead to alliances and a world war, at worst it would end up with Mordred and maybe the others becoming the focus of gods who may want to kill them in order to keep world peace.

Thus, it was better to be careful and simply take in dark beings and train them into powerful beings under their wings.

They would be grateful for the change in status due to following the 9 already, just like Cassandra. With the increase in power as well as another class, they would surely be willing to follow their leader through hell or high water.

So the demons were easily ignored and could feel it. The ones with a sense of shame left their names and prayed that one of the pair would take them in.

The more shameless ones decided to try their luck for longer but only ended up receiving cold stares and eyes from the girls as well as Mordred.

This left the dark beings feeling a bit proud but also pressure. Some thought that the group was only interested in the dark beings so they would not end up involved in any political situations while the others thought the group was not in a good mood that day and would not take in any of them.

The 'Royal' B-ranks made their way to the front since they thought that they had the highest chance of being recruited by the 3. Malory, Sophia, Noel, and the head of the Atlanteans stood the proudest.
