27 Chapter 27: Basic Inscriptions

Mordred and Persephone appeared in the center of the dungeon plaza once again. Even though it was now night, there were still the same amount of people there due to the fact that this dungeon was so popular. There were always demons and dark race members who wanted to try their hand at it.

"Now that we are out, let's divide the loot. Since we have 2 [Stomp], we will each take one. I also want the [Thorn Armor] since a lady can never have too much defense. You can take the [Toxic Stinger].

Anyway, here you go. I'm off to go invest in my stat and ability points for now. You can go home and do whatever you want. Bye-bye"

And with that, the little witch was off without even waiting for Mordred's reply. The Oni was not surprised by it however and proceeded to make his way to his carriage as well. He was not planning on going on any more raids and simply wanted to study his system.

As he sat down in his carriage and waited to arrive at home, Mordred opened up his status menu.

Mordred was happy to see a large number of skills as well as his high level. He had gained 30 levels in a single day while also having a familiar.

'This system is so unfair. I will study it tomorrow instead of when I get home. For now, I feel exhausted after going through two dungeons.'

When Mordred arrived home, he immediately went to his room and did not even search for his family.

'They are probably out anyway.'

As soon as Mordred arrived in his room, he stood before his bed and said, "Hello, my lovely. Have you missed me?" before falling down on the bed and immediately falling asleep.

He awoke the next morning smelling something terrible. He looked at his bed and saw that it was filthy and had a hole in it.

'Ew. And guess I am still not used to my horn being fully grown yet.'

That was when he noticed he was still wearing his dirty clothes that were covered in bee guts, splinters, honey, and sap.

Mordred immediately stripped off all of his clothes before running into his bathroom and immediately taking a bath. He hated the feeling of being filthy when it was unnecessary.

'A self-cleaning spell. I need a self-cleaning spell soon if I am going to continue to raid dungeons,' Mordred thought as he scrubbed himself down and got all the dirt and grime off his body and out of his hair.

The Oni soon exited the bath to find that his linens and dirty clothes had been taken away and replaced by fresh and clean ones. Mordred immediately put on his underwear before walking out of his room toward his study.

'Alright. We will do 3 things today. First is practice our Inscriptions. Then we will study the system. And lastly, we will plan out what we shall purchase.

This all sounds well and good but I will probably only accomplish one or two if I want to do them efficiently.'

Mordred's study was the former house library, but it was converted into his personal study when he was 5. Both of his parents had their own offices so would never use the library so Mordred just declared the room as his own. No one had an issue with it and just let it be.

When Mordred arrived in the library, he sat at his desk before opening the system store and purchasing some items. He bought a high-quality mana channeling brush and magic ink to use to make talismans. He already had plenty of paper ready to be used in the room so he did not waste any points on that.

He looked into the store to see if he could purchase the higher tier inscriptions but they were unable to be purchased.

'Looks like I need to put in the effort to get this skill higher through practice and ability points.'

Mordred went to his shelves and spent the next few hours doing some research on inscriptions that he did not gain when he learned the skill or leveled it up. He had to be sure he knew what he was doing.

3 hours later, he was ready to go over his thoughts and what he had learned.

Mordred began thinking over the basic information on inscriptions he learned when he got his system, the skill, and from the research, he did when he was younger before he would begin practicing.

'Inscriptions are divided into 3 levels: Basic, Intermediate, and Advance. The power and quality of inscriptions are determined by my skill with it and my artistic/drawing skills.

Basic level inscriptions are made up of the 24 runes. The most basic inscriptions are made using just a single rune while the better ones use multiple. Runes can be used in various combinations to create various effects.

Intermediate inscriptions are made up of the 66 crests. These crests are just like runes and can be used separately or together to make complex inscriptions but are much harder to draw and take up more mana.

Runes and magic symbols can not be used together, unfortunately.

Advance inscriptions use are made up of glyphs. Glyphs are magic sigils that can have single or multiple layers to them. They also have runes and crests drawn in certain parts in order to increase the effectiveness of them.

The primary way glyphs work is by intent. Then intent of the user when they first draw the sigil. The runes and crests work to boost/solidify the original intent or add other effects to the glyph.

This is the most complex of inscriptions and even those who gain the skill are unable to use it with much practice.

All in all, I can't rely on the skill like I can with others. Even if the skill allows me to make inscriptions, they may fail due to my lack of understanding or actual ability. I can't simply rely on leveling up the skill.

Guess I better start practicing.'

And so, Mordred dipped his brush into the ink and began writing his first inscription.
