3 TWO

I'm glad that both my parents sent me off. As much as I do not want to be in this subway, I cannot do anything anymore. I took a seat by the window and doze off.

After hours of sitting in this subway makes me want to just get out and embrace the outside world. Such an opposite emotion from earlier, I know. It is around 2:30 in the morning in Manchester. Truth be told, I have never been to this place, or that I can remember. Maybe we, my parents and I, came here before but I am not that sure about it though.

As I got out the train, I saw a woman, holding a cardboard up with my name written on it, among the crowd. I made my way to the girl and smiled at her. For sure this is dad's doing or maybe this is how it goes in this freaking camp.

"Hey, are you Samantha Kelly McAdams? Good morning! Welcome to Manchester." she asked me with a smile; a forced smile to be exact.

"Yes, I am. I'm Samantha Kelly McAdams. And you are?" I responded ignoring her greetings.

"Oh! Hello, Ms. McAdams! I'm Angela and your dad sent me here to fetch you and take you to the camp." She said.

"Oh! I see. Are you one of the people that run the camp?" I politely asked.

"Yes, why you ask?"

"No valid reason." I forced my smile.

"Okay. Let's go." She stated. "The camp's opening ceremony is at 12 noon, later. So still have time to settle in." She added and I simply nodded as I rolled my eyes. I grabbed my luggage.

We got to the vehicle that was waiting for us. I looked around and admired the beauty of this subway station. It is quite different from what we have back in Brighton. I then checked my phone to see if I got any messages from either my mum, dad or Matt.

"Ms. McAdams, this way please." Angela said directing me to the cab in front of the subway station.

"Just call me Sam. I prefer Sam." I said and made my way inside the cab. The driver loaded my luggage at the back while Angela sat beside me. "How long would it take us to get to the camp?"

"About two hours." She said and my eyes just went wide. That long? "You can take a rest if you want. It would be quite a bumpy ride." She suggested.

"I'd rather not. I'll just stare out the window and look at the places."

"Okay." She said.

The engine started and we drove off. I looked out the window and saw that the city was still awake. All the lights were still on and the road was busy and a lot of people were still wandering around Manchester. Never knew that this city never sleeps, or maybe they do but not all of them. Maybe half of the population is awake while the rest are fast asleep.

"Enjoying the view, Sam?" Angela asked.

"Yeah, but I have one question though."

"What is it?"

"It's like around two in the morning and there are a lot of people awake and wandering around. What are they doing?"

"Oh that? They have night shifts on their job. And the city has been like this. There is no stopping the people from partying, going to different pubs and all. I don't know how they manage though." She answered.

"Oh. I get it. No wonder." I stated and resume to staring out the window.

After that little conversation, it was quiet and I have no plans on talking. I didn't bother to say anything. I do not want to disturb and mess around with Angela because she has been awake just waiting for me to get here. Besides I dislike talking to anyone I do not know that much.

3 hours passed and I think we are finally at the camp. Finally in Scotland. It was still quite dark.

"We're here!" Angela declared as she opened the door.

I got out the cab taking my purse and one of the luggage with me. The driver also got out and unloaded my luggage.

"This way, Sam." Angela motioned after I grabbed my luggage and she grabbed my other luggage. "I'll take you to your cabin and there you will be meeting your cabin roommate." She added.

We walked towards a cabin and stopped right on the doorstep. "This will be your cabin. As you enter, you'll find your roommate. Go settle in and after you've unpacked and ready, take a rest. Just be reminded to be at the camp quadrangle at 12 noon for the opening." Angela said placing my luggage down at the same time handing me the keys to the cabin. "Go ahead and open it. Have fun during your stay in camp."

"Thank you!" I said. I made my way to the door and unlocked it. I opened it wide enough so I could see what's inside. It was quite dark so I switched the lights on. I saw a blonde gal lay asleep on her bed, I'm glad she did not wake up as I switched the lights on. I looked at the other side and I saw an empty bed.

Guess it's my bed.

I entered and placed my luggage beside the bed. I left the door open because I still have to get the rest of my luggage. I gently settled my luggage and walked to the door to close it. Instead of closing it slowly, I accidentally slammed it, making the girl wake up.

"Who's there?" She asked. She had a blindfold on, the thing that rich people use while sleeping. That's why she didn't wake up when I turned the lights on.

"I'm your roommate, Samantha…" I quickly said.

"Oh…I thought you're a thief." She said at the same time removing the blindfold from her eyes.

"I'm not."

"Hey, I'm Alexandra McCornikk." She said. I looked at her and glanced at her ginger head. It looks good despite sleeping on it, for I do not know how long, though.

"Samantha McAdams." I said. "Nice meeting you."

"You too." She said as we shook hands. "Looks like we are roomies."

"Yeah." I said feeling uninterested.

"And we can be great friends, if you don't mind."

"Sounds great."Still uninterested. "Sorry if I disturbed your sleep. You can go back to sleep now."

"Nah. It's fine." She said. "I'll help you unpack then."

"It's okay. I'll be the one to unpack my stuffs." I said. "You really should go back to your beauty sleep."

"What?! Beauty sleep?!" she retorted. "I'm not a girly girl as you think I am."

"Okay?" I said, sounding like a question more than a statement.

Both Alexandra and I were quiet for a few moments. I have no plans on making friends, not even with my roommate. And I hate having conversation with people and talking is really not my think, unless it's with my mum, dad or Matthew. I do not even have real friends back in school, quite weird but that is how my life works.

"Okay, I'll go back to sleep if that's what you like." She said.

"Don't think I'm angry 'cause I'm not. I just like doing things on my own." I declared.

"I know." She said in a whisper. "It seems you do not want to talk, so, good night. See you in the morning."

I was about to open one of my bags, but I thought maybe I'll leave the unpacking later. I placed all my bags to one corner of the cabin and once I was done, I placed myself on the bed. I wasn't sleepy; I was just tired and annoyed. I stared at the ceiling most of the time. It was cut when my phone vibrated. I grabbed it out my pocket and checked who it was.

It's from Dad.

Weird! It's like five in the morning. Maybe he woke up early for work and decided to leave me a message.

From Dad:

Hey Sam, I hope you're in camp already. I'm glad you made it there safely. Take a rest and I'll see you soon.

What does that even mean? See you soon?? Oh well.

To Dad:

Hey Dad. I'm already here at camp. And I'm freaking like it here (note the sarcasm). Anyways, I got here safely and I'm not taking a rest yet. Please tell Matthew 'Hi' and 'I'm already missing him.' Okay Dad, maybe I'll see you soon.

Then I sent it.

As much as I want to see my dad, I want to see my mum while being here. I just hope he does bring her along though because that would mean the world for me.

I placed my phone on the dresser beside my bed and just went back to staring at the ceiling. I thought about what life would be like in this camp. I wonder who would be here. Mum never mentioned that any one of her talents would be here but maybe I know someone at least one. If Katherine was here, I would be so happy.

I wished she lives in UK. She lives miles away from here and I haven't seen her for more than 10 years. I miss her so much that I wish she was my roommate than that ginger haired girl in the other bed.
