5 Kill

The days ahead were long, but Wolf had nothing but time on his hands. He started to practice controlling his devil fruit ability more often, and after three months of training he could open portals on demand.

He tried using it in rapid succession, opening, closing then repeat. However he easily got exhausted after three times. If he pushed himself, he could do it a fourth time, but he was so weak he passed out after.

Still, progress was progress and Wolf was happy. Now all he needed was a time to plot his escape and he would be out of here.

Granted, he was not beaten or tortured and was decently fed. He was tired of being locked up in a room all day every day. One hour of freedom was not enough for him.

His prayers must have been answered today, because Black Hand appeared in front of him.

"I got a job for you. If you complete it, you no longer need to be stuck here. What do you say, want to do it?"

The bald man still had a cigar in his mouth. Wolf started to question if that was part of his appearance. Whenever he saw him, he always had one of those.

Wolf nodded and accepted, he did not even care what it was. Freedom at last!

"Good, I knew you'd accept. Joe will take you, follow him and do as you're told. Once the job is finished you'll truly be one of us!"

With that, Black Hand laughed.

Black Hand unlocked the chains on Wolf's legs and set him free. Wolf followed him tot he front of the building where he saw crooked eyed Joe. The man seemed to be exhausted by the black circles under his eyes.

Joe spoke a few words to Black Hand, who just fanned his hand and sent him off.

Outside, Joe handed Wolf a gun. It was a flintlock pistol, something he was not used to.

"You know how to use this? Probably not, here, you pull this back and fire."

Joe quickly showed Wolf how to work the gun incase the kid did not know what he was doing. After he passed it to Wolf, telling him there was only one bullet loaded so don't waste it.

"What do I need this for?"

Joe sighed and shook his head.

"Don't ask questions, just do as you're told. You want to be free right? Then do this."

Wolf nodded his head and waited for an opportunity to run away. He had to wait until they were out of the district before he made his move.

Joe must have sensed Wolf being up to something as he saw Wolf keep turning his head left and right.

"Don't even think about running. The moment portal yourself away you'll be hunted down and killed. You might not see them, but there are six others following us to make sure you don't pull a thing. They are armed with rifles, one shot and you're dead."

Wolf was not the brightest tool in the shed, but he knew that a rifle had range on it. He would not even know where the person was shooting from.

Turns out that the Black Hand gang was prepared for him.

They were watching him in silence, so they had a general idea of what he was capable of. Wolf just did not know it.

Giving up on his idea for the time being, Wolf decided to just go along with what they said. As long as he did this, he'd be given freedom. That was better than trying to escape and failing, then he'd be dead.

There would be other chances to escape in the future.

Joe led Wolf into town that was bustling with people. However, whenever Joe saw a marine, he went in a different direction.

Soon, Wolf was taken to the town square. The same place where Gol D. Roger was executed. Memories couldn't help but come back to him.

The square was full of people, as well as a few marines.

Joe zipped his jacket up trying to hide himself as best as possible. He also stood still in a small crowd of people who were looking at a bulletin board.

Wolf noticed the board was full of wanted posters. That's when he noticed a wanted poster of a person worth 5,000 belly.

'He's alive!'

Wolf was shocked to see Ross was still alive. He searched the board trying to see if he could find Angel but there was no luck.

Why was Ross alive? Did he not die? Wolf had so many questions but had no way of finding out the answers to them.

Still, it was good that his friend was still in the land of the living.

He grabbed the bounty off the board and put it in his pocket.

"You see that man with the tall hat and cigar in his mouth. Go to him and shoot him."

Joe softly spoke so that Wolf was able to hear him.

"Here?"

Wolf asked as this place was full of people.

Even next to the man Joe was pointing at were tough looking men. All larger and stronger than Wolf.

"Yes here! Portal to him, portal away. Easy right?"

Well, hearing Joe say it of course it sounded easy. But Wolf knew that it would not be like that in reality.

He's never killed anyone before! Sure, he shot at someone to try and save his friends but that ended up in failure. The bullet missed completely.

Maybe if he got real close, then he would not miss. Doing that would mean Wolf would have a hard time escaping.

He started to weigh his options, maybe he should take his chance at escaping now. There were marines around. They could help him out. Right?

"Marines are our enemy, remember Wolf. Marines are bad, they will hunt us down and execute us even if we did not do any harm. Pirates and Marines do not get along."

Ross told him that before, but Wolf was not a pirate right now. They'd help him.

"Stop wasting time and move!"

Sure, they would help him now but what about later after he escaped from the Black Hand Gang? They would not protect him forever. Eventually, the gang would come back and hunt Wolf down.

'Better stick with what i'm told for now.'

Wolf sighed as he realized he might not escape from his fate.

A small portal opened itself up in front of him and he stepped inside. When he came out he was standing behind the man with the tall hat.

Bang!

Wolf closed his eyes and pulled the trigger. Something warm splattered on his face, and when he opened his eyes he opened a portal as fast as he could.

The people surrounding the tall hat man were shocked, and tried to react. They spotted Wolf but a moment later he vanished.

Wolf appeared in front of Joe who smiled and rubbed his hair.

"Good job brat! We might make something out of you yet."

Wolf had blood on his face and his hand was shaking. It was only a moment, but he saw what he did.

The square was in chaos, people were screaming and started to run. Marines were rushing forward holding their rifles searching for the culprit.

"Let's go."

Joe said as he pulled Wolf alongside him to head back to their base.

That day, Wolf killed his first person. In return he no longer had to stay inside his room, he could not leave whenever he felt like it.

It was like night and day. The members started to welcome him with open arms, and stopped treating him like shit.

Over time, Wolf got used to it.

It was odd, but the gang started to feel like a family. And just like that, six years went by.
