1 Chapter one- am I dead…. oh wait

It was a white plain that he opened his eyes to, and that was all, everything was white. It was like a void of white nothingness stretching on forever in every direction. And he felt numb, everywhere. Looking down at himself he let out a gasp in shock, but only no sound came out. Not surprising because he did not have an actual body.

He began to panic and tried to remember just what the last thing was that he was doing before this. He was running to try and catch his train home after a trip into the city and then… nothing.

"Not surprising, seeing as you died" a monotone voice spoke out all around him.

If he had a body he would have jumped or yelled or something.

"Calm down, honestly all you mortals react the same, such a jumpy bunch" the voice spoke again

He tried to calm down and suddenly found himself calm completely, like nothing had happened. What?

"That would be my doing, I've seen your mortals reactions so many times and it gets boring after the first million, so lets get down to it" the monotone stated plainly, "yes you're dead, brain aneurysm, you never even know what hit you. This is purgatory, you are going to be given a second chance at life seeing as you died before your time. But it will not be in your world, yes the multiverse theory is real, you will be sent to one of the anime world you enjoy and know every well, and there will be a system in place that only you can access, questions?"

He had to take a moment to process all of that and tried to think, um what world would he be going to, and what did he mean by system.

"You will find out when you get there, enjoy your new life" the voice stated and he couldn't help but think that it sounded slightly smug, and the next thing he knew everything when black.

Scene break

Pain, excruciating debilitating pain flooded his every nerve and every fiber of his being. He didn't know how long it lasted but in a single instance it stopped, apparently being reincarnated hurt a hell of a lot.

The darkness continued for several moments as his senses began to come back to him. He could feel the rough ground that he was laying on, the clothes he was wearing and the warmth of the sun overhead as it shown down on his face.

With a groan he slowly began to get up and began to rub at his eyes as he stood up. He was standing behind some wooden structures in an alleyway of some kind. It was quiet all around him, deathly so like he was the only person around for miles.

Swallowing he went to take a step forward but stopped the second a transparent screen appeared in front of him with two words displayed on it

"Think Menu"

the moment he read that the screen changed growing larger and he had to blink a few times thinking he was seeing things.

"okay I guess this is the system I was told about" he spoke to himself as he looked over the screen. He immediately reconised that the language was Japanese but somehow he could read it perfectly.

Talents, Combat, User, were currently the three icons that were highlighted in blue while others were greyed out and partly transparent, he couldn't read what they were but figured they'd become available later. He had played enough RPGs in his previous life to know that much about systems like this.

Curious he tapped on the User icon and the screen changed to display a picture of himself. He had brown hair that was rather long, going down to just above his shoulders, he had a somewhat narrow face and a light tanned complexion with high cheekbones that drew attention to his grey eyes. But what really caught his attention was the few lines of text next to the picture.

Name: Silvers D Gabriel

Age: 17

Gender: Male

Available Talent points: 3

Available Affinity Points: 400

Beri: $10,000

Title: Civilian Nobody

He had to read over that screen several times as he tried to process just what he was reading. Silvers D Gabriel…. that wasn't his name…. his name was…..

when he tried to remember his name he frowned, he couldn't, it was as if his memories had been altered in some way, every time he tried to remember his name it was like static buzzed in his ears. What the hell.

It took him a few minutes to realise just what was going on and he sighed, "I guess I can't keep my original name from my world, so I guess this is my new one, but Silvers D…. it's almost like…" his mind froze when he realised where he had heard those two things before and his eyes flickered down to the sixth line, Beri, that more or less confirmed it for him, he was in the One Piece universe and he immediately gulped.

"One Piece, Straw hats, Pirates, Marines, Silvers, D…. holy shit" Gabriel said to himself in a whisper.

He had always been a fan of the One Piece series, he had watched it when he was younger and then re-watched it when he was much older. Yes he was an Otaku in a way, he didn't subscribe to all anime and had a very specific taste in what he watched but One Piece was always at the top of his watch list.

"Okay, Okay calm down, so its the One Piece universe, no big deal, I can handle this," Gabriel muttered as he tried to calm his breathing and looked at the screen again and tried to focus, he wanted to learn more about this system and just what else it was about.

He tapped on the two lines that mentioned some kind of points to learn what they were about and another screen popped up with an explanation.

Talent points: points that can be spent to unlock available skills and techniques. Acquired through various means such as completing quests, defeating enemies and unlocking achievements.

Affinity points: Points that can be used to increase the users proficiency in skills and techniques. Acquired through various means such as completing quests, defeating enemies and unlocking achievements.

Gabriel nodded slowly as he read over these lines and understood just what it meant, it was pretty straight forward after all.

With a thought the menu screen came back up and he began to look through the options that were available to him at that moment which were not a lot. about seventy percent of each option were greyed and blurred out but he understood the gist of what each meant.

Talent skills were basically everyday skills that normal people could learn to do with study and practice things like Navigation, crafting, cooking, lock picking and the like. While the combat skills were just that skills for combat.

Marksmanship, Combat strength, Combat speed, Swordsmanship, Hand to hand combat were the skills that were available for unlocking in the combat menu.

Taping each he got an explanation for each and he began to understand something more about the system that he was working with. With that knowledge he began to think on just how to spend his points, he only had enough to unlock three skills for the moment and had to think carefully on just which skills to unlock. He didn't know in what amounts he would get points in the future just yet so he needed to spend what points he did have wisely.

Combat skills were a must, this was the One Piece world after all, he knew he would have to fight eventually so it would be best if he knew how to defend himself. He didn't have a sword or any kind of firearms so he knew better to buy marksmanship or swordsmanship right from the off, those skills would be useless without the tools to use them, so that left the other skills. Hand to hand combat, Combat strength and Combat speed.

He was tempted to just unlock all three and divide his affinity points between them, but thought better of it. This wasn't like normal RPGs, while he could do that it seemed to easy to him and it felt like a trap. Sure he could unlock them but dividing his points like that seemed to be a waste. Couldn't he just train in these things himself and unlock them. That could be an option as well, but at the moment he didn't know when he would need to be able to defend himself and didn't want to take the risk so decided to split everything down the middle.

With a deep breath he spent two points on Hand to hand combat and Combat strength and then put a hundred affinity points into each of them, wanting to hold the other two hundred back in case he needed it in the future.

As soon as he did he shut his eyes as he felt the mother of all migraines hit him as information came to the forefront of his mind. It was like he had spent three months fighting nonstop, he knew instantly how to make a fist, how to move his body to deliver the most force with a punch or kick, how to evade and block, grapple and throw. And at the same time he felt his body surge with energy for a brief moment, his muscles pulsing beneath his clothing, like he had been working non stop at a gym just as long, it felt incredible.

"Wow" Gabriel spoke after several seconds taking a deep breath as the migraine and energy faded and he clenched his fists hearing his knuckles pop, "what a rush".

He could see how this system could be extremely useful to become strong fast, but he had a hunch that there was a limit to what the system could do. looking back to the screen he tapped on the Affinity points of each of the skills that he had just unlocked and smirked as his suspicions were confirmed.

Combat strength had a AP (Affinity points) cap of five thousand, while Hand to hand had a cap of two thousand. This immediately told him that the System would only be able to boost him so far. that if he wanted to become stronger than what the system could make him he would need to train on his own. That was fine with him.

Looking at the screen again he was tempted to split his remaining AP between both of his skills but decided against it, he still didn't know just how difficult it would be to get points in the future and knew he might need them in an emergency, so with a thought he closed the screen and began to walk down the alleyway once again. He still had to figure out just where he was in the One Piece world and at what part in the story he was in, from there he'd figure out just what he'd do next.
