4. Devil Fruit!

[Kain Village - Harbor]

There was handsome young man with black hair and shining blue eyes with height of 181cm and with standard marine uniform consisting of white short-sleeved white shirt emblazoned with the Marine emblem and blue neckerchief which belongs to Marine Academy's second year recruit.

I have finally returned back to home, it has been 10 months since i was back at home and everything feels so familiar, but also different, while i kept walking back to the house i lived my childhood in.

Walking to the east of the village i saw my house, it was same as before. It doesn't look anything special, small house with 4 windows and 4 rooms including living room.

*Knock* *Knock*

I walked to the door of the house and knocked few times and the door opened beautiful woman with dark red hair and blue eyes standing at height of 202cm.

''Mom!'' I yelled and ran to my mother and hugged her

''D-dante?!'' yelled Rose and hugged me back

''W-what are you doing here?!'' said Rose while stammering little bit.

''First year is over so i wanted to visit for little bit before going back.'' I said with smile and got dragged inside the house.

After that i got interrogated by my mother about what happened in academy. I didn't tell about my adventures in Kingdom of Deul otherwise all hell would break loose.

''By the way where is dad?'' I asked while i pretty much knew the answer to.

''He was sent to New World to chase few pirates.'' said Rose with smile even though anyone who talks about New World would speak in terror, but Rose just shrug it off knowing that Jack isn't the one in danger, the pirates are.

I have been already 15 days back in home and i haven't done anything worth mentioning expect spending time with my mother and running around in the forest nearby, before i went to academy i wasn't allowed to walk deeper to the forest, because there are few stronger animals, but this time is different, i was curious and knowing that if i can't defeat them, i can run!

While walking deeper and deeper in the forest i heard huge roar not far from my current position and without further ado i ran quickly to the nearest bush to hide.

From there i looked ahead of me i saw two huge figures fighting, it was huge gorilla and huge spider. Both looked injured, but after a while it looked like gorilla was about to win. It seemed at first they were fighting over something and then i saw something that would change my life forever.

I saw they were fighting over some kind of bizarre looking fruit which had Kalebassi-shaped, dark green fruit with spiraling pattern and i knew at that moment it was a devil fruit! Instantly my heartbeat started accelerating and i knew i had to get it!

Fight was nearing to the end as i saw huge spider falling to the ground without any life signs, huge gorilla then was limping towards the bizarre looking fruit and then i made my move and sprinted towards huge gorilla with my sword raised up.

Gorilla saw a puny human run towards him before he could claim his prize of the fight and then the gorilla started rushing towards the human with craze look on his face.

Huge gorilla punched at me, but i dodged it by jumping over his fist and slashed my sword at his face and blinding him from his other eye.

*ROAAAAAAAAAAR*

Gorilla released cry of pure rage and now his only sole reason of living is to destroy this puny human who interrupted him from getting his prize, but i couldn't care less and i sprinted towards the fruit and grabbed it and ran away as fast as i can.

*ROAAAAAAAR*

Gorilla saw his prize being stolen and lost all his sanity and chased after the human, crushing every tree in front of him.

After i managed to steal the fruit, i felt some satisfaction, it was like fruit was calling me all the time to take it and eat it, but i had no time to do such thing, because taking few glimpses behind me, i saw furious looking gorilla chasing me with all his being.

I knew i couldn't beat the gorilla and i couldn't outrun him forever, i couldn't go back to village either, this crazy monkey would chase me to the end of the world if he could.

Gorilla was getting closer and closer to me and then i saw huge cliff in front of me, which shocked me and then i took glimpse behind me and saw gorilla running towards me without any intention to stop, so without further ado , i jumped from the cliff, but of course i wasn't planning fall from it, i am not suicidal!

Instead i used my sword to stab it towards mountain wall, which stopped my falling, but the gorilla who lost his sanity, just ran to the end of the cliff and fell from there.

*CRACK* *CRASH*

I looked below me and i only saw broken trees and huge crater, not sure did the gorilla survive, but i didn't care and i climbed back to the top of the cliff.

I sat down and analyzed the fruit in my hand, i knew it was devil fruit and with these patterns i knew it was Paramecia-type. but what can it do is still mystery..

I was weighting my options of eating it or wait till i am back in the academy to get Encyclopedia of the devil fruits.

But i am not the most patient type and i started leaning more and more towards eating it.

So i ate it.

*Gulp*

''Ugh disgusting!'' It was most disgusting thing i have ever ate and i have been taste tasting my neighbors food which can barely be called as food.

I felt some kind of power residing in me, but i was wondering how to use it, so i walked to the nearest tree and started thinking about using my powers and concentrated the feeling of power to my hand.

And then i saw my hand glowing in color of white and i saw tree in front of me split in half.

''?!'' i was shocked and was still confused of what my power is, it just split the tree.

I took my sword to my hand again and coated my sword in that color of white and slashed it towards another tree.

I slashed to the tree and i simply slashed through the tree without any resistance and i was wondering was it some kind of Slice-Slice fruit and kept testing the fruit.

I stabbed the sword to the ground and coated the sword in color of white again and then the earth split open making huge crevice on it!

''I see now..'' I said aloud, it was same power as one of the former Vice-Admiral had, who has been dead for almost 20 years, who apparently had power to split the seas.

That power is called Ware Ware no Mi (Crack Crack Fruit)

It allows user make crevices and cracks and rifts.

I wasn't completely sure yet, but i had a hunch now, first thing i do when i get back to the academy is to check it out.

20 Days Later

I finally returned back to the academy after hanging out with my mom and i was currently in the library reading Devil Fruit Encyclopedia.

And i was right. I was looking at the picture of the fruit which looked the same as i ate with Ware Ware no Mi next to it with large font.

It says that ability of Ware Ware no Mi is to make person who has ability to open "Rift" anything he touches. This ability can be channeled through object user hold and makes the user able to make crevices and cracks to anything he touches making shields and weapons useless against that person.

After reading little bit about the fruit, which i knew didn't hold all the information this fruit holds and i knew i had to improve this fruit myself.

I started walking towards one of the Instructors to register my devil fruit ability so i can get more advanced training.

After i registered, Instructor informed the other instructors and Rear Admiral of the Academy about my devil fruit ability, which for some reason made them quite fearful mumbling about like father like son or something like that, well i couldn't care less about these weirdos and i received my yellow neckerchief which looked kind of ugly with outfit which was filled with color of white and blue, but anything looked good on me i guess my inner narcissism kept telling me, but i ignored that.

10 Days Later

Second year was officially started when rest of the recruits came back to the academy and i was standing with other 4 who had also yellow neckerchief.

''Alright! You five will be leaders of your own unit this year, it won't be like last year where you mostly stayed in the academy! This year you all will lead your own units to hunt pirates and fight against other units in some tests, so unity is key, lead your people right and don't solo it, i am talking to you Borsalino.'' said Instructor and giving us info about incoming about coming year and giving nasty eye to the Borsalino who still had his silly smile on his face.

Apparently Borsalino kinda ignored all team play shenanigans and solo'ed everything with his logia powers, because no one in North Blue is really able to harm him.. maybe my ability could? Not sure, but i will get to test it.

''Hey Dante, so you ate it too.'' whispered Borsalino to me while ignoring what instructors was trying to say, which i ignored as well honestly.

''Yup, i stole fruit from angry monkey and made him fall 100 meters down the cliff.'' I said with smile

''O-okey?'' said Borsalino confusingly and backed few steps away from me for some reason

Next Day

We were preparing to leave for pirate hunting and i walked to the ship which my unit will use.

There i saw my unit lazing around waiting for ship to sail off and without further ado i joined them!

They all introduced themselves to me, but i decided to keep it simple and give everyone their own codenames. There was about 25 recruits in my unit so i decided to name them all with numbers 1 to 25.

''Leader, what is the plan?'' asked Nr.1 from me while we kept sailing towards Rush Village near of the Whiteland Kingdom.

Apparently they was there to recruit more members for their pirate crew and the academy heard of it and send us to capture them.

Their Captain only had bounty of 11 Million Berries and Academy was confident that i would be able to catch him, which i agree, even though i am not level at Lieutenant Commander yet, i can still easily defeat weak pirate captain.

''We will send Nr.11 for the recon and he will find the location of the pirates and we will take them down!'' I said my perfect plan

''B-but leader, shouldn't we at least make some kind of plan for capture.'' stuttered Nr.1 after losing faith in his new leader

''I already told my plan though? We don't need to make this complicated, they aren't expecting marines to come to take them down when they are keeping low profile right, so we will surprise them as fast as possible while keeping all civilians safe.''

''Yes sir!'' said Nr.1 after regaining some of his fate, it is simple plan, but it doesn't mean it isn't effective.

After sailing for another 5 hours we were closing on the Rush Village, but we didn't go all the way to the shore.

''Alright Nr.11, take the small boat and go find their location.'' i said to Nr.11 while patting his shoulder.

After that Nr.11 went to the shore and started slowly walk towards village while staying hidden.

It didn't take long for him to find them, they weren't exactly keeping low profile and kept partying in the nearest pub, so no further ado Nr.11 rushed back to the ship and told us the information.

''Hmm, i guess marine really has gone lazy around these parts if pirates with bounty of 11 million berries are this careless.'' I said to myself and started giving orders to the others and without further ado, we made our way to the shore with our marine ship, because Nr.11 made sure that there aren't anyone keeping watch near the shore.

After that we started marching towards the pub while still keeping hidden, only about 15 recruits including me will take part in this operation, rest of them stayed in the ship.

We reached the pub and heard ruckus inside of it and i made tiny crack in the wall with my powers and saw inside. They were dead drunk. Some were dancing while barely able to stand and others were just passed out in the ground.

''How disappointing.'' honestly i was excited for this mission, but i wonder are pirates in the North Blue drinking same water which makes them retarded or something? First the Garmo pirates and now this.

''Go arrest them.'' i said lazily and the recruits rushed to inside to arrest them and it caused huge ruckus, but the pirates were still nicely arrested within a minute, but then huge yell came behind me.

''WHAT THE HELL YOU MARINES DOING TO MY MEN?!'' yelled the Pirate captain of these idiots and took sword from his waist and rushed towards me.

''Die you marine brats!'' yelled the pirate captain while slashing towards me, but i only grabbed it with my hand and broke it apart.

Crack Hand!

I used my ability to crack the sword apart and without further ado i kicked him in the waist and sent him flying towards nearby building.

*Crash*

He flew straight through the wall.

''Damn what was that?!'' yelled Pirate Captain in panic and tried to run away, but that escape ended in short.

Black Hole!

Great pulling force came behind him and kept pulling him towards Dante.

''No! What is thiiis?'' said Pirate Captain in panic while trying to keep running, but the pulling force kept pulling him towards Dante

Black Hole, the move i call is when i use Rift which has shape of a hole which increases the sucking force in it and therefore i can pull people towards me, there is also move called White Hole which does the opposite and pushes people away from me (Don't pity me!)

Pirate Captain was pulled towards me and now he was hanging with my arm on his neck trying to break free, but i simply kept grabbing harder and it made the Pirate Captain lose his consciousness.

All the pirates was now captured and it was quite disappointing trip, even though i managed to test little bit of my ability towards pirate captain, but he was simply too weak.
