2 Chapter 2: Sanji's birth

Year 1502

Another year has passed and life didn't get much better for Kai. Once his dad found out he ate the devil fruit he started strangling him right there before realizing it was a huge loss. He didn't even know what the powers of the fruit were so he left the kid alive. Finally listening to his newly pregnant wife who was begging for him to let Kai live. He let the child drop to the floor after he released his neck as he walked out of the room muttering something about testing that fruit on some clones.

When he was finally gone Kai's Mom walked up to him as he was gasping for air on his knees. He was trying to catch his breath quickly because he didn't want her too worry. If he really wanted too he could have done something but he couldn't expose his fruit to Judge. Kai's mother was balling and she crouched beside him muttering.

"Sorry, sorry, I'm sorry." Over and over again. Kai clenched his fists as his whole body shook, he had tears in his eyes that started streaming down his face as he ran into his Mom's arms and hugged her tightly. The two wept together for two different reasons. Kai was upset at his powerlessness and the fact that his Mom had too suffer because of him. While Sora felt like she was a terrible Mother for letting this happen too her son.

"You're so kind to me Mom. I love you so much." Kai whispered too her. She froze for a second before she started to shake. "No! I'm not! I'm a terrible Mother for letting him do this too you!" She was looking at the floor until Kai grabbed her cheeks and tilted her head upwards to look him in the eyes. "Please don't say that! You're the only one who care's about me! I love you! So, please, please don't say that."

Sora looked her son in the eyes for the first time and saw a serious and warm look in them like he was tenderly holding something precious. Then she noticed the sad look that they held as if he was on the verge of breaking down. "I can't do this without you." Kai continued on as a tear rolled down his cheek. Sora grabbed him tightly, hugging him like she never wanted to let him go. "I love you, Kai. I'm always here for you."

The two wiped their tears when Reiju walked into the room quietly. She looked over to see Kai and the red marks on his neck while he was standing next to their mother on her knees. Her eyes watered a bit before she wiped them and shot into Kai's arms like a bullet. She was a very smart child and with her genetic enhancements she knew what had happened. Her father had tried to kill Kai again. She was getting worried about her brother and he might not make it one of these times.

"Nii-san.." she had so much to say but none of the word left her lips as she looked at his gentle smile. The tears in her eyes finally started to fall as she couldn't hold them back anymore.

For the first time in this life Kai had showed his true colours to his mother. He decided it was time he showed Reiju as well as he turned serious and looked at both of them. "I will protect you. Both of you." Before letting the serious atmosphere drop as he returned to his normal childish self and tried to cheer them up. "Look at this cool trick I learned," he said as he started to move the air around him and Reiju, letting them float while using the air to pick his mother back up to her feet.

"Wahahaha, you can't tell Dad about this or he might kill me. Hehehe." Kai laughed at the horrid joke as his sister tried to smack his head only for her hand to go right through him. Both girls looked at him in shock as Reiju didn't know what happened and Sora realized her son was both smarter and in more danger than she originally thought.

"Reiju, my daughter. You absolutely cannot tell your father what you just saw!" She said very seriously as she was concerned that Judge would try to kill her child to reclaim the devil fruit if he knew about it. Reiju was stunned for a second before seeming to put the pieces together as she slowly nodded her head.

This caused Kai to laugh "Wahahaha, don't worry Mom! Rei is a lot smarter than she looks. I wouldn't have shown her if I didn't trust her." Over the last year Kai has learned how to control his fruit a little bit better. He also learned a new ability that he has almost mastered, if he turns his entire body into air itself and matches up with the windflow of where he is he can become completely invisible to the naked eye. So far he has only been able to camouflage about 80% of his body but soon he will be able to master this technique. He couldn't wait to see how jealous Sanji got when he realized he could do that.

Even if he isn't a strong fighter he is very fast and is capable of escaping most situations he has encountered in the past year if he just revealed his power. The only reason he didn't yet is because he didn't want to put his mother and sister in a tough situation. He had a plan to leave eventually but he needed to wait for the right time.

2 months later

Kai looked at the newspaper and sighed deeply. "The Devil Child Nico Robin Wanted Dead or Alive" He shred the paper in frustration before walking away.

Kai walked into his mothers room before he walked towards a drawer and opened it without saying a word. Inside was the drug his Mother was taking in order to allow her unborn children to be born with emotions. His eyes were so focused you couldn't tell his thoughts by looking at them. He turned towards his Mother and asked.

"Are you sure?" He didn't need to clarify as his Mom knew what he was asking about.

She smiled softly and nodded, "Of course my baby." she rubbed her stomach looking longingly. She knew that Kai was smarter than he had let on with his display two months ago. He might have already realized that her life was most likely destined to end with a childbirth or be forced to breed until she couldn't anymore.

Tears slowly streaked down his face as he said, "But I promised! I promised that I would protect you both! There has to be another way!" Even though he knew since the day he was born that this day would come he still couldn't come to terms with it. She was his Mother in this life and he loved her more than anything. Even though he realized it might be a mercy to end her life here, so Judge couldn't do anything more to her. Even though he realized that she both wanted and needed to do this, it still wasn't easy to accept. How could it be?! He was going to let his mother die!

6 months later [Year 1503 March 2nd]

Kai was nervously pacing back and forth as his Mother was giving birth. He suddenly heard a baby crying. He wanted to confirm if it was what he thought so he used his devil fruit to look around the room. There were four babies, but only one of them was crying. It seems that Sanji is still the only normal baby born.

Later that night Kai used his newly mastered stealth ability to sneak into the room with his Mom and the babies. He looked at Sanji a bit hesitant before he picked him up and held him. It was his little brother. He was finally born. He had been practicing a new power for this day. He was now able to create mini shields out of air that were almost invisible.
