Chapter 70: Smarter than he seems

-Negan POV-

The Goro Goro No Mi, the Lighting Devil Fruit, the fruit who gave its previous user thoughts of godhood. It's cool as shìt, the coolest fruit out there. Though kind of useless against people like Max who have super strong Haki, any attack I threw at him would just be slapped aside like a toy.

But still, its speed and power were nothing to joke about and it was very versatile. Not only could I listen in on people, but for example right now I was inside the control board of the submarine who attacked us previously. My current form was that of an electric current.

Max had wanted me to do this, and he usually had some master plan for everything. Though I can never guess what he thinks? Sometimes it seems like he really can see the future, he plans around people that he had never met before and yet knew perfectly how they would act.

That made him scary to some, but to me he was just more dependable. Wish he would drink more with me though, and by drink I meant alcohol, not the usual water or orange juice. He isn't a kid! I would try and entice him into drinking by calling him a kid, but he didn't care, he never cares! The only one ending up annoyed and stressed out would be me.

His damn perfect gentle smile would stay on his face constantly. Countless times I contemplated punching that smile that always seemed to pleased with himself. But I was drunk when I had those thoughts and usually the one ending up with a tooth missing would be me.

A Logia was supposed to make me powerful and strong, and even amongst Logia my fruit was one of the best out there.

Yet at the end, Max, someone with a relatively normal Zoan could beat my asś all the way through the four seas and that would be without even the need to use his own fruit. Sometimes during our sparring he will even have that annoyingly perfect smile that would piss me off.

My anger would disrupt my Observation Haki and by then I would already lose, his attacks hurt like hell. Each punch felt like a mountain was bullying me.

"Tch, this hurts." Complained Shuzo, bringing me out of my thoughts.

Shuzo covered his shoulder in bandages and a doctor came to diagnose him. "Sir, we have done a scan and your organs are all at the point of breaking."

Well that's Max for ya, his punches hurt like hell even when they don't directly hit.

That <Six King Gun> technique was really something, it ignores all defenses and instead attacks internally. Add Haki on top of that and you have an attack that could have probably killed guys like Shuzo in one hit if Max didn't need him alive.

"Then fix me up, I can't go in front of Master Zed in such a shameful state," said the long-armed man.

Gotta give it to him, he had guts, Max wasn't nice and even though he didn't kill the man, he still probably hit hard enough to make Shuzo as close as possible to death.

Anyway, I now needed to wait till they reached Risky Red. It shouldn't be too long since that was one of the first three islands anyone would come upon after entering the New World.

It took twelve hours till this shìtty submarine reached the damn place. Holding this electric form was easy, but for TWELVE HOURS it became hard. I was especially annoyed enough to just go and kill everyone in here.

But sadly, I had orders to follow, and as they landed on the ground in Risky Red  I was ready to get off when suddenly a gruff voice said. "Oy, Shuzo, you didn't notice the pesky squirt following?"

Suddenly I sensed a man standing atop the submarine. He punched down and I immediately repulsed myself from the object and landed on Risky Red.

BOOOOOOM!!!

The submarine exploded and out of the flames came a buff man with purple hair, sunglasses and a big mechanical arm. Hate to admit it, but he looked cool as hell. That's just like my style. 

"You look cool, old man," I complimented him. Sure, we might be enemies, but there was no reason to be harsh. "Do you mind if I have those glasses after killing you?"

Zed stopped in his tracks, the flames behind him still released waves of heat that burned all the way here, yet he seemed unbothered. Suddenly his seriousness dissipated. *Pfft* "Bahahahahaha!! Rash, dumb and a muscle head who only sees what's in front of him, you would have been one of my favorite students."

Right, I heard that Zed used to be a teacher in the Marine HQ after he retired. His Observation Haki must be pretty good to sense me even back then. Now… can I hold on long enough till Max arrived here?

From what I knew, the Neo Marines didn't believe in capturing pirates, only killing them. Do they consider me as bad as a pirate? Who knows, but it didn't change my options, it only meant that I had to give it my all and whether I won or lost didn't matter in the end.

But it sure as hell sucked, bad luck seemed to follow me every time I came to the New World. Last time I almost died and this time I might die for real. 

Fwish!

Suddenly the old Admiral charged at me, but with the help of the Lighting Devil Fruit, my senses were above normal. So it was easy to dodge the attacks.

Booom!!

Zed punched a crater at my previous place, where only slight electric traces were left.

"You are fast," he complimented me, but I had no time to react as he moved for the next attack.

But that one I dodged easily too. It then when I noticed that the giant mechanical arm that he kept dragging around was also dragging him down too.

Even with all that weight he was moving fast, so this was quite a testament to the man's strength. Especially for someone his age.

"But you are also predictable." I heard his voice behind me and noticed that the man in front was just an after image. 

Baam!

His hit landed on my midsection, though I scattered myself before the full-on attack could do any critical damage.

I gathered my body midair and made a giant dragon out of lighting.

<Lightning Dragon>

*BZZZZT*

Electricity crackled all around as it shot down to the ground, hitting Zed head-on. But the man used his metallic arm and Haki to block the electric current from hitting him. Though he wasn't very successful as his body shook after I manipulated a small strand of electricity to hit him at the back of his head.

Deciding to take advantage of his stunned state, I created a dozen more snake heads made out of electricity.

But in that instant multiple metal rods were thrown in the way of the attack, causing it to disperse. Still though, the dispersed energy was still manipulated by me and it changed its trajectory to attack Zed again.

Something strange though happened, as Zed's body was hit with two pink bubbles and he seemed to grow younger? I looked at the one who threw the metal bars and it was a young girl with Rank blue hair and eyes. 

"I don't think you should be looking at me." She smirked arrogantly and pointed at Zed.

I sensed the attack before it hit, even though I tried dispersing my body to dodge the hit, the man grabbed my lighting-like body with his hand and then punched down on me.

BAAAAAMMM!!

Unlike before, I felt the Haki entering inside me and destroying my ribs like a bazooka just exploded in my stomach.

A/N: Negan is the guy to say something dumb and inappropriate for the situation. So most people think he is dumb. But the guy is actually smarter than he looks.
