Chapter 2

Title: Saved...

As the ship approached, I almost sighed in relief, but my mind immediately stopped thinking happy thoughts as I realized that they are pirates.

'Damn, hope that they have some food at least, and feed me. Please don't be the killing kind of pirate.' I prayed to any god that might care to listen out there.

I saw that the pirate flag was a pirate skull with an eyepatch and a feather hat, the same banner was on the ship's dark sails too. I dodn't remember anyone from the canon story having a flag like that. And if I was really in One Piece I could only hope that I wasn't like 100 years into the future or 1000 years in the past. That would suck so much, my knowledge would then be pretty useless.

But I must hope for the best while preparing for the worst. The worse was these pirates wanting to kill me. I could feel the heat coming from the burning forest and I wave at the people in the sip.

I had kinda screwed myself by unknowingly eating a Zoan fruit. But what has been done, can't be undone now. No use crying over spilled milk.

I should look at the positives, at least as long as I trained my body I could make something with myself. Shanks had one arm and no devil fruit, I can definitely make it work if he could.

If I added Awakening to my reportage then it will be more than just good, if my memory is correct, guns and canon against an awakened Zoan were pretty much useless because of their strong body. 

My Awakening in a way, it will be my own type of Gear 4… except better and probably stronger. You know what, now it doesn't sound all that bad. Plus a bear is a fierce creature, so it's bound to be better than something like a koala or some other normal animal.

So with that, I was now calm, in the end my hunger and hoplessness must have gotten my spirits down, amd gotten me scared for nothing after all. I can make this devil fruit great, not the other way around.

The ship finally reaches the shore and on the net thing of the ship I see a woman, she has an hourglass body and is wearing black pants with a white loose shirt that has a couple of buttons on the top undone. She also has an eye patch and hat with a feather. I can see that she must be an experienced pirate at least because she has an 'X' shaped scar close to her remaining eye, and also instead of a had… she has a hook.

I immediately assume that this must be the captain of the ship. Her brown hair flows in the wind as her cold eye stares at me.

Oh damn… I hope that she is into malnourished young boys. I am so hungry that I am willing to do a lot of kinky stuff for a loaf of bread.

The ship gets closer and closer, I can see some men also looking at me from the deck of the ship. They have amused looks on their faces.

"Woah! A kid who set the forest on fire! You don't see this every day." Says a shirtless and tan muscular man with a red bandana. He was twice the size of a normal man so he stood out amongst the others. And even though he said that as if it was impressive, he had a bored voice. Leading me to believe that it's nothing that amazing about finding stranded people.

"You think the captain will torture him?" Asks another crew member with amusement in his eyes.

"Why wou-" Is about to say another crew member but his fellow crewmate nudges him. "Oh, yeah… she will probably. She likes the screams of desperate people."

I could tell that they were both lying, the second guy almost asked why the captain would do that. Meaning that both of them know that she won't do something cruel needlessly, but still want to scare me.

"What is your name?" Finally asks the captain as the ship is close to the shore. Her cold eye looks at me, trying to look into my soul.

"My name is Max… Bear D. Max." I answered her, I chose my devil fruit as my last name and the D in the name was just because it would make me seem special. Nothing too complicated, it should be easy so I don't forget my 'own' name.

"I see…" Says the woman calmly, her eye narrows at that.

"Can I come on your ship?" I ask her respectfully, trying to ignore the loud gurgles that my stomach lets out.

"Hmmm…" The captain seems to be thinking, but then she takes out a coin as she uses her hook to hand onto the net. She seems natural at this, probably years of sailing have made her natural at things like that.

"Head or tails?" Asks the woman once more. Immediately I understood what she was up to, she wanted to decide whether to kill me or let me on her ship. After all, she can't accept every random person on her ship. 

"Tails," I tell her calmly, getting ready to transform into a bear hybrid and try to kill every single one of them. Then I would take their boat and get the hell out of this place if I lost the bet.

She flicks the coin in the air, and as it lands in her hand, she looks at it. Still with a calm look on her face, which makes me nervous.

She then smiles slightly and shows me the coin. "You are quite a lucky boy."

As she says that I smile at her and thank her. "Thanks, my lady. Glad you decide to not kill me."

Mission suck up to the captain begins now. I gotta get on this lady's good side.

"Come to the ship then." Says the woman, and I can only look at her uncomfortably.

"U -Uh… mam… I don't know why. But during recent times I have not been able to swim. I get weaker when I get in the water." I tell her with a pitiful look on my face. This causes her to frown and me to feel a heaviness in my heart.

"Might be some kind of allergy maybe…" I added, trying to appear as innocent as I can and a little naive.

"I see." Says the woman once more as a cold look appears in her eyes. "Have you eaten any strange fruit recently?"

"Hmmm…" I try to act like I am thinking and finally I 'came' to a realization. "Oh yeah, in the forest. Thought it was poisonous, honestly dodged a bullet on that one, though the taste was still horrible."

….

After that, a couple of crew members drop down in a smaller boat and come to the shore to pick me up. 

After getting on the real boat I just looked around curiously. It looked like a normal ship and the smell of salt was all around it. I turn around and look at the woman, she walks towards me and says. "You are the new chore boy now."

"Yes, captain!" I salute her, she nods at me and walks away. "Can I have some food captain?"

She turns around, her cold eye narrows at me, making me gulp in nervousness. "No, when dinner time comes you will eat with everyone else."

After saying that she walks away and goes into the captain's cabin. That fucking bitch!! I will kill her one day.

Though I think those malicious thoughts, my outside demeanor only showed slight annoyance. After all, acting calm in this situation would be even more suspicious.

I look around and see around thirty people. "Yo! Hello guys, my name is Max, so what do I do as a chore boy?"

That is when the muscular man, who is twice the size of the others comes forward and says. "Hahahaha! Welcome to the Amelia Pirates, my name is Doser and the captain is Amelia. Though, first things first, I think that you should help the cooks in the kitchens. Come with me, I will show you."

I nod at him, I see what he is trying to do here. He is putting me in the kitchen so I can still eat even though I technically will be eating with the others later on. 

I look at him and can't help but think that one really shouldn't judge a book by its cover. He is kinda nice even though he looks fierce.

Still, though, my sense of hunger has dulled my senses a little. I can't think as clearly as I used to, thankfully adrenaline helped me hold a clear head while talking to the Captain.

Now I just need to know where I am without asking questions and being suspicious.

AUTHOR NOTE:

The MC is willing to… compromise with his captain. Hell, he was desperate, she could have asked him to become her slave and he would have expected. If he would have kept his word was a whole other situation though.

P.S: No the captain isn't in love with the MC just because she looked at him once or something like that.
