1 Abortion

Su Bei sat quietly in the hospital corridor. Both her hands were tense as they rubbed against each other nervously while she waited for the abortion. 

Ever since she knew that she was pregnant, she had been waiting for this day.

She just had an ultrasound, and the black spot on the film was her baby, which was already eight weeks old. 

Su Bei took a deep breath and she felt an extreme tightness in her chest.

She did not feel relieved. She placed her hand on her flat tummy, feeling a little bitter.

"Beibei, don't you like kids a lot? I remember you said the first thing you wanted to do after marrying Zuo Xiao is to have a kid..."

Lin Chuxia, who was sitting on one side, suddenly stopped talking. With an apologetic expression on her face, she looked at Su Bei and said, "Beibei, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have mentioned Zuo Xiao!"

Su Bei gave her a faint smile. "Chuxia, thanks for that. You still remember him after so many years!"

Lin Chuxia was looking back at Su Bei with utter shock. "Did you forget him?"

Su Bei seemed to be looking somewhere far away. With an indifferent voice, she answered, "Yes!"

Time went by in a blink of an eye, and six years was gone just like that.

Did she forget him?

That name was already inscribed deep in her heart. How could she forget?

Just that the current Su Bei was no longer the naive little girl she was back then.

Lin Chuxia withdrew her smile from her face. Zuo Xiao was Su Bei's most painful memory, and she did not mean to upset her. Hence, she quickly changed the topic. "Beibei, why don't you keep this baby? You're already 26. If you don't give birth now, you'll become part of the elderly primigravida."

Su Bei's eyes narrowed as she stared at the bustling corridor with a blank look on her face.

"This baby doesn't have a father. How can I keep it?"

Lin Chuxia was startled as she jumped out of her chair. "What? Don't you have a boyfriend? Yesterday, I tried to use the excuse of introducing a boyfriend to you just so that you would go out. Your mom said you already have a boyfriend and hung up the phone without any further explanation."

Su Bei looked at her dumbfounded bestie and suddenly regretted telling her everything. She held Lin Chuxia's hand. "Chuxia, stay calm."

"How can I stay calm? You don't have a man for so many years, and you don't go out and flirt around. But now, someone got you pregnant. You better tell me the truth. What's going on? Whose baby is this?"

Lin Chuxia stomped her foot and screamed with her hand on her waist. Her pair of eyes were filled with fiery rage as though she was a ferocious beast.

Su Bei lifted her chin. With some reluctance, she said, "Hey, Lin Chuxia. I might as well get you a loudspeaker so that you can broadcast this to the entire city that I got pregnant before getting married and that I don't even know who the father is."

Lin Chuxia was stunned by Su Bei's words. She brushed her gaze across the corridor where everyone was staring at them with a strange look on their faces. Immediately, she changed her facial expression. "What are you guys looking at? Can't we joke around?"

Su Bei pulled Lin Chuxia aside and gritted her teeth. "Lin Chuxia, can't you just keep still and sit down?"

If Yanan was not on a business trip, and Su Bei had nowhere to go after her operation, she would not have wanted Lin Chuxia to be here. But since it was, she had no choice but to bear Lin Chuxia's presence.

"Next, Su Bei!"

The door of the operating room opened and a nurse read out loud her name from a book.

"Yes." Su Bei got up and went inside.

"Beibei, be brave. I'll be waiting for you outside." Lin Chuxia took her hand and comforted her.

Su Bei smiled and nodded. "Don't worry. I'll be out soon."
