Chapter 70 - Selfish

Kasumi ran after the scream. She wanted to help her mother, but when she went outside and felt the cold wind shove her to the ground, she decided to stop running. She knelt on the ground, holding her elbows and covered herself from the frigid cold.

She chattered her teeth and selfishly left her mother to the wolves and went back inside towards the warmth.

After warming herself up a bit she ran to her sister's, Hanae's, room. She kicked down the door and yelled, "Hanae, mother has been taken!"

Hanae woke up to the loud sounds. She couldn't make out what Kasumi said so she groggily groaned, "Sister, what did you say?"

Kasumi walked to Hanae's bed and yanked off the covers, "Get up! Mother was just taken!"

Hanae jumped up and shivered, "What are you talking about? And why is it so cold?"

Kasumi flicked her forehead, causing Hanae to give out a little screech, "Are you thickheaded or just stupid? I just said that our mother was just captured and now we don't know where she went!"

Hanae laughed, "We? Do you mean you? I just woke up, so it's not my fault that I don't know where she went! It's yours, you were the one who was supposed to chase after her and rescue her!"

Kasumi punched Hanae's shoulder this time out of frustration and anger, "Shut up! It's both our faults. You should stay alert even when you're sleeping. You have to be a light sleeper!"

Kasumi sighed and puffed her cheeks, "And I can't even believe how you couldn't hear the roaring wind, the talking, and our mother's loud screech! You must be deaf!"

Hanae slapped her back as she began to change, "Stop insulting your sister. Saying such mean things about everyone and hurting them is just asking for karma."

Kasumi giggled, "Silly sister, there's no such thing as karma. You just have to be careful that no one will stab you in the back!"

Hanae yawned and said, "Yeah, yeah, whatever. Now let's go search for mother. We could send out the sniffing dogs!"

Kasumi shrugged, "We could, but then father would know. We have to ask them for the dogs."

In this world, there are such animals called sniffing dogs. They are highly skilled and trained dogs that can sniff a person to the ends of the earth, unless they have a spell written on them. There are a few people in this world that can actually craft spells. You don't need a gift to craft spells, you just need to knowledge. The knowledge is sent down from families or from disciples, and the craft is so sacred that barely anyone could find a master to learn the skill.

Hanae pouted and tapped her forehead, thinking, "I don't know how else to find her then. We could look for tracks, but we wouldn't be able to find anything if the person was a professional."

Kasumi nodded, "I agree. There isn't much we could do. Maybe we should ask father."

Kasumi hopped onto Hanae's couch in sadness, "But then we'll get punished. I hate being punished."

Hanae hopped down right next to her, "You're so selfish. Always putting yourself above others. You could save your mother, but no. You don't want to get in trouble for losing your mother so that you could find you mother."

Kasumi slapped her sister now on the back of her head, "Shut up. Don't say things that aren't true."

Hanae rubbed her head in hurt, "But it is true. Don't lie you selfish brat."

Kasumi stood up and glared at her. She let loose a bit of her powerful energy and growled, "Do you want to test me?"

Hanae cowered in her presence, "I'm sorry, please don't hurt me."

Kasumi laughed happily, "That's what I thought, you weakling."
