Laney supposed that was fair from Richard's perspective considering he had admitted to not understanding her more than once but she was still reeling from the fact that he actually laughed at something she said. And the fact that he said he needed to get used to holding Karina. Had his being more involved with her lately been more than solely for the act? 

She recalled how he said he would try his best when she cried all over him before the baby was even born. He was actually making an effort here! But how long would it last? He was acting like a good dad now but that was only because he had time to kill to keep his grandfather from being suspicious. 

It was unreasonable to expect him to stay at this standard of involvement indefinitely. As it was, she still had a hard time wrapping her head around him bothering with half the things he did for her and Lissy.
