2 Babysitting

Jack smiled sweetly at Lily, his little niece, while the rest of their family was out of town on an adventure. They didn't know where they had gone, but it didn't bother either of them. The two were perfectly content with being with each other, and they were more than happy when the rest of the family didn't come back home on time.

They went up to Lily's room so she could take a nap and so Jack could read Wattpad stories. The young adult opened the door and headed towards the bed before Lily stopped him. The small child watched the older male stop and smiled, knowing he was more exhausted than her and would end up sleeping at the table again.

"You don't need to look for monsters under the bed. Papa keeps them in the basement," Lily smiled, catching his attention. Jack looked at her swiftly with a confused look in his eyes. He took a small step forward, kneeling down to the child's height.

"What do you mean by 'in the basement'?" He asked the child, getting the young child to giggle. It made him smile sadly, wanting the answer to his question but not wanting to ask again. They watched the other for what felt like hours, but only lasted the span of a few minutes.

"You know! The basement! Or was it the attic?" Lily questioned herself silently. It felt wrong to see a child questioning if she was safe or not. It made him feel like he had to speak up, so he decided to calm her fears.

"Look, just stop thinking about it. I'll talk with your dad when he gets back. I'll call him is he isn't back with your mother," Jack smiled sweetly towards her, making her nod proudly. The small girl knew he never lied to her, so she could believe him when he spoke. She got into bed and moved underneath the blankets, her eyes staying on him. He just smiled back. His doubt was unbearable, though, but he hid it well from the small child.

"Night!"
