1 Chapter One

Leanna wanted to kill someone. Just five minutes ago, her father had announced that she was to be married tomorrow. When she had demanded why, he had simply said that she did not need to worry about it. She had then went off to curse her father and storm out of the office he had called her to.

And now, here she was, sitting on the ground before a lake, dipping her feet in the water. This was her only place she truly had to herself; no one ever bothered to come here, thinking it was too dirty and muddy to be enjoyable.

It was pitch black outside, the only light coming from the full moon above her. She glanced at its reflection in the water and sighed. If she hadn't been the chosen one born on the night of the blue moon, her father wouldn't have arranged a marriage for her.

She cursed moon and her luck, wishing she was a normal girl. Leanna hated her power. Although she could see the future, she couldn't control when she saw the visions or even what she wanted to see. It was quite frustrating, and she believed her power was a waste.

Behind he, she could hear voices calling her name, demanding that she return to the mansion. She hated that mansion. It was too big and lifeless, full of boring colors and useless adornments. After gazing over the moon one last time, she stood, grabbed her shoes, and returned to the house. No one dared to stop her after seeing the furious look on her face, so she stormed to her room, slamming the door behind her.

Leanna plopped down on her bed, not caring that her feet were wet and that her clothes were filthy, and started to cry. She was nineteen, almost twenty, and still, she had never been aloud to make any decisions in her life. Her father told her what to eat, where to go, what to do with her time. It was unbearable, and sometimes Leanna wished she could run away. But she knew what would happen if she did. The last time she tried, she was banned from leaving the house for six long months. That experience had almost killed her.

She wasn't some animal you could keep cooped up. No, she wanted to feel the sun against her skin, the dirt beneath her feet. The girl started to cry, an awful, hopeless sound that would break the hearts of normal people.

Normal people.

Her father was not normal. No one in that household was normal. Normal people didn't marry their daughters off like animals. Normal people didn't scold their children when they made friends while playing outside, claiming that she shouldn't involve herself with the riffraff.

She stopped crying. Be strong, she told herself. Leanna forced herself to see that this was an opportunity to escape. When she arrived at her new husband's home, she would wait until dark and then run out into the night to leave her depressing life behind. She was positive that her husband wouldn't know of her escaping antics, for her father would never tell him, lest the man decide that she was not worth it. With these thoughts in mind, Leanna fell into and easy sleep, now looking forward to tomorrow.

Today was the day she would gain her freedom. Marching down the hall, she barged into her father's office to find him talking to an older man. Her father didn't even look at her as he waved his hand at her, shooting her away. Leanna stood her ground. "When do I leave?" she demanded.

He gave her a look that told her to get the hell out of here, but when she did not move, he sighed in defeat. "Your stuff is already packed. You will leave for your future husband's house in an hour. Now get out."

Satisfied, Leanna marched out of the office and spent the remaining hour coming up with a plan of escape. The hour flew by, and before she knew it, she was being escorted into a limo. Her father, her only living relative, did not even bother to see her off, and before she knew it, she was being whisked away from her childhood house to the unknown.
