1 The Modern Day

Within our modern world we have grown accustomed to greed, self desire and destructive gluttony, this stretches from the lust of a meaningless office romance to nature's endless desecration and destruction, but what of the modern world is an evolutionary marvel and how many aspects of our lives are eating away at us on both a micro and macro scale. What is tearing us apart today is the vanity driven global 'pat on the back' for merely passing the basic stepping stone of survival, albeit arguably better than that of any other creature, which is a selfish thought. Any pet owner can surely see the bliss tranquility of its loving dogs daily activities, or the pleasure cats take in knocking our needless items off of bizarrely carved trees. No dog could ever understand the confusing world that it lives in for they don't need to, their survival needs are met and they view every moment of life with excited eyes, possibly only sparing of the strict system the owner may force its dog into.

We are progressively creating a 'utopian' hell carved with the blade of our pride. Take a look outside, you surely see either an empty green hilled haven or a breathing city lined with a grey, grid like canopy, possibly somewhere in between. This is a question I find myself asking with no conclusion, is it better to trap yourself in a lively skyscraping prison or to confine in the lonely beauty of the countries deep forests or expansive grass fields? I've grown up surrounded by beaches that stretch for miles lined with caves of Pictish history, war bunkers hidden away in vast woods and I have seen my country only for a fraction of its beauty, and it only inflates my ever expanding hatred of man. To so cruelly destroy the land given to us, to oppress our fellow man and to profit off their suffering, to hunt helpless animals for fun. We don't deserve the self proclaimed place at the pinnacle of this planet, war and destruction carved such an idea in our arrogant heads.

Eventually we lose the drive we once held for perfection, our interests become vague memories and our desires reduced to a brief climax. It seems everyone I once called a friend has drifted towards a mind numbing job patiently awaiting a drunken bender at the weekend, their capacity for thought peaked during an exam they barely passed. I don't like to cruelly rate intelligence, where one exels another may fail and all are skilled at least slightly, but a drive to better oneself should never fade, as I call it mental suicide. Mental suicide is allowing oneself to achieve nothing, blindly accepting a confining life of null accomplishment. How does one break out of this? By simply pursuing ones desire, their drive and passion. To know ones passion one must explore everything this world has to offer, slowly your interests will become clearer and more defined, but that is never an excuse to exclude yourself from finding knew interests.

The modern world does not allow for man to pursue his desire however, for even to pursue it you must work to pay off student loans, study relentlessly and tirelessly scroll through every individual article and writer, to achieve nothing but a signed certificate and stress levels that could produce electricity. Many people I have known from college have told me they can't cope, that their mental health is rapidly declining and they don't know how to go on, and this is the arguable favourable alternative to many lost innocents stuck in a job cutting wood or metal. Where can a Ford devised regimented schedule allow for expansion when our leasure is corrupted with errands, overwork and failing home lifes. The only true way to escape from this struggle is to rebel, rebel at any given opportunity without risking your safety and sanity. To rebel is not to actively partake in terrorism nor any violence, but to question and reject the world around you and refuse the common belief when it deviates from your own views. Question the beuracracy, demand answers from the state, hold your government accountable. To rebel is to allow oneself to survive in a world that will chip away at you and round you off. To rebel is to hold vain freedom.

Our modern utopia won't fall like rome, no xenophobes can blame immigrants as barbarians, we are driving ourselves to destruction through our own egotistic pride.

Man won't fall, we will persist like a dying bug erratically flees to a dark corner, but we won't fall. For as long as our selfish view of ourselves exists we will continue to plunge ourselves into a chasm of uncertain lies. Globally we are doomed until we abandon our macro identities however individually you will never be lost.
