1 Chapter 1, Awakening

Cold.

It was eerily cold.

My room shouldn't be this cold.

My eyes opened, darkness invading my vision. Strangely enough, it wasn't as dark as I expected it to be.

I glanced around, haggardly.

'What the hell?' I questioned, looking all around me.

I turned, all over, a completely unfamiliar area surrounding me.

Was I laying on, trash bags?

This was an alleyway wasn't it...

My eyes sluggishly examined everything around me. I looked up at the apartment buildings above me, the boarded windows.

To my left were dumpsters, and lining the building were cardboard boxes, rodents, trash bags, you name it.

It looked like I was in an alleyway that a helpless woman would run into in your average action movie...

My senses seemed to be coming to me at an alarming rate as everything started to become clearer.

My ears felt more tense, I could see farther, think slightly faster.

It was a strange feeling, and in that moment, it all came to me...

I don't know where the thought came from, but it was there.

'What...' I thought, as memories and just, knowledge, filtered into my mind.

My gaze turned frantic, my bodily fulling awakening as I truly analyzed everything around me.

I stared at the bricks of the walls near me, and intuitively, I could understand. I could understand how they were made, the process it took.

I turned to the ground next to me, and I could hear a ticking. Like a watch, a broken one, trying to tick past a certain point, but it could not.

As I had heard, there was indeed a watch next to my leg. It's glass was cracked, and the long hand was stuck at 9.

Slowly, my hand found itself with the watch in it, staring at the broken object.

I flipped it over, prying open its back and staring at the gears within.

With accuracy I didn't know I possessed, I poked and prodded at the inner mechanisms, repairing them with pinpoint precision.

In just a few moments, the watch was in my hand, and I peered past the glass, watching as the long hand ticked as if it was never broken.

"I get it..." In my mind, the image of a watch was displayed, and over and over again, I broke it down and repaired it, coming to understand the ins and outs of it.

"Interes-"

Cough*

Cough* Cough*

Someone had entered the alleyway.

I had moved off the trash bags during the process of fixing the watch, and as of now, I was knelt behind a dumpster.

I peaked around it, watching as a relatively scrawny man stumbled around.

He wore loose purple pants, with no other clothes on him.

He looked, sickly....

I could see his ribs, and his relatively long and unkempt hair made him seem homeless if anything.

But, beneath his skin, I could see something, more.

This man was broken.

I dragged myself to my feet, slowly moving towards the man.

As I travelled, I picked up pace... The closer I got, the better I could see it.

There was something about him.

It was a fundamental difference between me and him.

It was powerful. It was something he should not have.

Something I need to have.

"Are you okay?" I voiced unconsciously, the man perking up at my words.

"No! Get away! Get away from me!" He yelled, throwing one of his hands up and using the other to cover his face.

Did he not want to be seen?

I didn't falter, and I continued to move.

"Hey man... Don't worry, what's wrong?" I spoke mindlessly.

I was now nearly before the man who had crouched down, trying to hide himself away.

"Just leave. It's what's best for you..." He muttered, but I did not care.

I crouched down before him, grabbing the hand that tried to fend me off.

And that's when I started to understand.

Coming into contact with him, I didn't even need my eyes to understand.

I could feel it.

The Gamma radiation laced within his bones... The genetic mutation that opened a gateway that was locked for all other existences...

I wanted it.

Since I understood it, I was meant to have it.

It was at that moment, where a smile appeared on my face, and I felt something powerful well up within me.

The hand that hand come into contact with the man before me shone in with a red light.

And it hit me.

Immense pain.

My skin bubbled, glowed, and writhed as a green glow started to proliferate throughout my body.

I could feel it, taste it, understand it.

My eyes closed, and I instinctively licked my lips through the pain and ecstasy.

The gamma radiation broke down my cells, and converted them to something more. A door opened within both my mind and soul.

A great power leaked into me, and I could feel a presence spawn deep within me.

A monster was roaring within me. It wanted to be let out.

But how could I let something take control of me? I understood how it functioned. I understood what it want. I understood how I could fix it.

"Shut the fuck up." I spoke, opening my eyes and staring at the world through an entirely different lens.

Everything was smaller, and looked much more fragile. I could feel power sprouting through every inch of my body.

I had grown in size, and that wasn't even the most noticeable.

My hands had become bulky, strong and powerful, but most importantly, green.

I had put it together when I first saw the man, but I didn't have much time to dwell on it.

The hunger had consumed me, but now I was calm and collected.

I looked down at the man before me, his frightened gaze peering into my soul.

"What have you done?..." He muttered, his eyes glowing green, and a confused but angered expression appearing on his face.

I could answer his question, but I did not.

I knew he was a smart man, but he wouldn't understand.

Bruce Banner in this state, simply wouldn't be able to tackle the thought of there being another hulk.
